  1. Vista is the new Windows ME. Sales are running so low that Microsoft has developed an entire website dedicated to putting a better face on Vista so the industry will feel more confident in rolling it out now, instead of next year after Service Pack 1 is released. The last estimated release date I heard for Vista SP1 is 31 December 2007. I won't upgrade to any new Microsoft operating system until the first Service Pack has been released for at least three months. By that time, most of the biggest issues are fixed, and I don't have headaches for weeks on end because Microsoft didn't feed the imported programming monkey's enough caffeine to sober them up after the plane ride.
  2. Get a MacBook or MacBook Proof some flavor. Granted, I've never seen an Apple docking station/port replicator before, but a USB port replicator can be probably found that will do the job for a Mac. The support contract client I have who uses Macs exclusively at his office has called me exactly three times in the last two years to come fix a problem. The learning curve for OSX isn't bad enough to worry about. I'm a Windows guy by training, and use it at home, but I can work with OSX well enough to support my clients. And @ urse, Windows in any version is pretty much a ripoff of the same time period's version of MacOS.
  3. No no, don't destroy them. There's a website out there that deals with this very problem in a wonderful way. They've got a bayonet equipped AR-15 sitting in a room all by itself with a webcam aimed at it 24x7 and anyone can go to the website to check and make sure that the "evil" assault weapon hasn't walked off and harmed someone. Can't remember the URL atm, but maybe I can find it, because I thought it was hysterical.
  4. You forgot to tell us what it's chambered for.
  5. 20 posts and/or 30 days membership I think is what it is. Or was. If you PM Tungsten, he can probably clarify
  6. I think it's because his sales volumes are higher at the shows than at the store. He's at a show almost every weekend, which is why Doug's always at the shop. Jason's only there late in the afternoon and sometimes on Saturday.
  7. Byrd's has gotten a little out of control on pricing lately. They used to be a lot cheaper, but I think business slowed down and Jason had to raise his prices a bit to make ends meet. Lately, they've had the highest, rather than the lowest, prices among the local FFLs I go to. Their prices at the gun shows are better though.
  8. Don Hume sells it direct for $32.95, Crowder's here in town has it for $49.95. I was in Crowder's the other day window shopping and saw it. I didn't see any Kel-Tec's in the display cases though, wasn't real surprised though.
  9. I actually open carry the XD about 1/3 of the time. Just for the sake of comfort. But there are just some places I go that it's just easier to keep the thing concealed.
  10. If I'm in Winchester over the summer, I'll be stopping by. Maybe sometime in July, I know I have to be in the Chattanooga area in mid-July, and it doesn't look too far on the map for a quick trip over on my one off day for that job. More suggestions are always welcome, the three I listed were just the ones that I'd been looking at the most. I'll shoot anything at least once. And definitely a big plus for Joe is his customer service attitude. Could you come brainwash some of the FFL's here in Johnson City into thinking like that for me? That'd be swell.
  11. I'll shoot anything at least once. Got one for rent if I'm near Winchester over the summer? (=
  12. It's easier to explain if you put a 1911 in my hand... but the biggest issue I have with a 1911 is frontstrap to backstrap is too big for my hand. Width from left to right is just fine. Every .45 I've ever picked up has given me trouble though with the grip. They either feel too big (Glock 36, 1911), or just feel strange in my hand (Kahr P45, H&K USP 45). My XD-9 feels perfect. Any Glock that's not in .45ACP feels fine to me, even the .45GAP ones. Sig P-series is fine. I haven't seen a P220 compact or P245 locally, so I don't know about those two. I've come to a conclusion. One of the big things for me, is I want to be able to thumb the slide release with my grip hand. I can't do that on a 1911 without shifting the pistol about 15 degrees to the left or release the slide with my support hand. That's why I say they're too big. I can shoot one just fine. It's more of a personal quirk I guess. Regarding the PT-111, I put about 50 rounds through my ex's step-dad's one time. The trigger was about the worst I've ever felt on a semi-auto.
  13. I shot a P7 one time and didn't really like it that much. It was interesting, but it just didn't suit me. I've never handled or shot an EMP, so I can't really say much on that score. So if I come across one I can shoot, I might look into it. 1911's in general are too big for my hands, so unless they've really carved some depth out of the grip on the EMP, it'll probably be too big in the grip. Same problem I found when I went to look at the Glock 36 as a possible carry piece.
  14. I'm more worried that the P2000SK is going to be just as thick as my XD. Anyone had some trigger time on these that they could tell me about?
  15. I'd already planned to get a P3AT actually, but as a backup gun, or something to be carried when wardrobe or location required something that hidden. I'm looking at those mentioned above as primary carry guns that are smaller than the XD I have, but still in 9mm.
  16. I'm starting the process of looking for a thinner, smaller pistol to carry in the summers. Thinner and smaller than my XD-9 4". I'm wondering if anyone's got some firsthand knowledge of any of these that they could relate: Kel-Tec PF-9 Kahr K-9/MK-9 H&K P2000SK Price isn't so much of a factor, I'll spend what I have to spend. Logic would dictate that I should get a 3" XD since I have extra magazines already, but I don't like the looks of the XD SC and want something thinner.

    Plinker

$100-200 depending on condition and country of origin. I've seen the Yugo 59/66's for $160 or so in the local shops in varying conditions of restoration.
  18. The Bersa is about the same size as the Walther PPK/S
  19. The CC has been rounded to make it smoother and easier to conceal. The grip is different, and the sights are lower profile/smaller, along with the hammer being bobbed. It's the same gun with a body kit basically. If I was getting a double-action .380, I'd get a P3AT.
  20. The P11 salb had was probably an older model with the heavy spring. The trigger pull was heavier than the S&W 642 I had at the time.
  21. Glocks are perfect just the way they are. They give me plenty of ammo for jokes about European gun manufacturers that have delusions of grandeur that make them think they're on the same level as another gun manufacturer on that side of the Atlantic that shall remain nameless... *cough* H&K *cough* Sorry... something got caught in my throat... I need a cough drop apparently.
  22. Because that would make too much sense now that they've got such a huge portion of the market to keep in the dark about the newer and better designs coming from the competition.
  23. I've handled the G21SF. It's the same width as the old G21, just a bit skinnier front to back. The grip's still too big for my hand. That's the reason I won't get a Glock 36 either, the distance is too great frontstrap to backstrap. Which is probably why I can't find a .45ACP that I'm comfortable enough with to carry every day. My hands are too small for them, and the Glock just feels funny.
  24. Wideners is the absolute cheapest place I know of to buy Wolf ammo of any flavor. Wolf Military Classic, 7.62x39mm 124gr FMJ: $165 per 1000. http://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=6884&dir=18|657|659
