  1. There's an indoor range in Sevierville with a decent selection of rentals as well. I'd try to go to the meet in December as well. The more guns you shoot, the better the chances are you'll find one that you think fits. Buying your first gun should be like buying your first new car. Don't hand over the money before you test drive it, or at least one just like it.
  2. Get a springer Airsoft pistol from Wal-Mart or someplace. Shoot the cat whenever he looks like he's going to go for the tree. Or tape a coke bottle to the muzzle of a .22LR when the kid's not around. Bury the remains and say he "ran away".
  3. Or when you run out of ammo... whichever comes first?
  4. He was probably stretching the truth a wee bit about the amount of snow... I only saw some flurries today. As for the people on the road... He hit that one dead center of the X ring. When I drove to class tonight, a total of about six or seven miles, I saw three different MVAs, and the roads were dry and clear. All because it was spitting a few flakes of snow here and there.
  5. Something like 3/4 of them only get a night stick and flashlight is what I've heard. And yes, England really has a thing for shotguns. They still make some of the best break action shotguns.
  6. Snow? It doesn't snow in Tennessee. If it was snowing, the schools would have let out early today and closed for tomorrow, the grocery stores would be in the process of selling out of bread, milk, and light beer, and there would be at least a dozen MVAs throughout Johnson City putting JCPD to work on clearing the roads so the salt trucks can roll through. On the other hand... we are overdue for a good snowstorm... but I'd rather get 18" of snow a week or less before Christmas... Not a week before Thanksgiving.
  7. Cerberus just wants to cash in on the Remington name by applying it to the AR market... Remington needs to stick to what they're good at: bolt action rifles and shotguns. Proprietary parts on an AR-15 is just not cool... What else am I supposed to do with an AR besides switch out a random stock internal part for a custom one, and then test fire it, rinse and repeat with a different part?
  8. It's definitely an interesting concept... I'll give them that. I'll have to make a note to keep an eye on this for a year or two to see how it actually works out.
  9. Has anyone shot one of these new S&W shotguns? I was thinking about getting a semi shotgun around the first of the year. Just started looking around to see what else there is besides a Remington in my price range.
  10. I thought Jimmy was just the puppet master this year. Not actually the speaker himself.
  11. Every Universal I've ever shot jammed constantly... But in this case, mine had a semi-nasty gouge on the top right of the forearm, no bolt hold open, and a Monte Carlo stock with really nice looking wood. Sound familiar?
  12. What he said. Get Neifeh out of office and a lot of things become possible. Jimmy has been a problem at the Assembly for too long.
  13. Universal M1 Carbine clone. Jammed at least twice on every magazine no matter what ammo I used. It only had a 4x fixed scope for sights, the rear iron sight had been replaced with the scope mount.
  14. An excellent condition Colt Mustang .380ACP with custom night sights.
  15. Remington M700 Savage 10FP Ruger M77 Winchester M70 Browning A-Bolt A lot of the FN Bolt Actions are copies/variants of the Pre-'64 Winchester M70, so those are probably worth a look as well.
  16. I bet he can also get you a great deal on some slightly used scrap metal between Brooklyn and Manhattan too.
  17. For deer hunting, I put a a Leupold VX-I 3-9x50mm on my .308. If you want a fixed power scope... honestly I don't know... I only use a fixed power scope on my .22LR.
  18. I know a lot of guys who have them that love them. And $320 with the pre-mounted scope is a good deal. Best price I saw on Gunbroker just now for a NIB 336A with scope was around $375 out of state.
  19. It's just a store policy. I've bought WWB at 0300 at the Johnson City Wal-Mart. It just took me the better part of half an hour to get the on duty manager to sporting goods to sell it to me.
  20. musicman, you beat me to it. That 2.34mm Swiss rimfire will give you a smokin' hot 400 fps or so of velocity. and cost you about $8.50 per 24 rounds. Not counting the $5400 plus tax it would take to actually buy one... If they were legal in the States. In case anyone wanted to know, current exchange rate is about $0.85 per 1 Swiss Franc. But this is the truly useless version:
  21. I put 120 rounds through mine every year... 30 slugs and 90 buckshot.
  22. http://www.etsu.edu/sga/default.htm Scroll down to the bottom. SGA handles the concerts. Concert tickets are only available to students. Mortals, alumni, and other lifeforms not permitted except as the guest of a student who's attending and could scrounge enough tickets.
  23. Keep the 590 around as a backup to it's replacement. As wise men have told us for generations... there is no such thing as having too many guns. I'd get an 870 SBS to use as it's replacement. Ghost ring sights, a solid stock, and the extended tube to match the bbl length, and you're good.
  24. Simple. You don't. You have a crappy concert a week or two later on a Wednesday night in the Dome where at most 20-30% of the student body will show up to possibly enjoy what we all contributed $16 per semester to fund. This semester's concert is "The All-American Rejects", and I haven't heard how much they're gouging the school for to play, but I'm sure it's no worse than the Ludacris concert two years ago.
  25. James... John... This is what I get for posting on an internet forum when I've been pulling three consecutive all nighters to finish half a dozen term papers. Close enough for government work.
