I watched the debate and thought it much of the same BS. No real "winner" in my opinion. I think McCain missed several opportunities to blow Obamalama out of the water. He just needed to hit the points: - McCain warned of this current crisis back in 2005-Dems voted against doing anything. - Obama has 2 of the Fannie CEOs working for him. Both got golden parachutes - Obama still plans to implement his socialistic policies costing us billions, even with the current economic crisis. WOOHOO-promote U.N. values!!! Are there any commercials playing from opposition groups like the Swiftboat Vets or Code-Pink(morons)? Where I'm at, there are no commercials.

People have always said that McCain has a temper. Personally I would like to see that. I would like to see him come alive with passion and begin ripping Obamalama-ding-dong from head to toe. He wouldn't know what hit him. "Unleash the fury Mitch!!!!!"

(FYI, Got this in an email) I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG. Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We Deserve It Dividend. To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+. Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up.. So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billion that equals $425,000.00. My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend. Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let's assume a tax rate of 30%. Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes. That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam. But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket. A husband and wife has $595,000.00. What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family? Pay off your mortgage - housing crisis solved. Repay college loans - what a great boost to new grads Put away money for college - it'll be there Save in a bank - create money to loan to entrepreneurs. Buy a new car - create jobs Invest in the market - capital drives growth Pay for your parent's medical insurance - health care improves Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean - or else Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces. If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( "vote buy" ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President. If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+! As for AIG - liquidate it. Sell off its parts. Let American General go back to being American General. Sell off the real estate. Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up. Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't. Sure it's a crazy idea that can "never work." But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party! How do you spell Economic Boom? I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion We Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC And remember, The Birk plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

OK PEOPLE, enough is enough. The panic is over. There is NO shortage. Just let the stations fill up again. I have been watching this unfold for the last week now. This is the only part of the country, aside from Galvestin, TX areas, that is experiencing this shortage. The people's "sheep" attitudes are fueling this madness. KNOCK IT OFF!! I am coming home in 27 days. I would like to spend my time with my family rather than in line at the local BP or Quickie-Mart. I would also like to make the trek to Hero-Gear. At this rate, I might be walking.

Great news today!! I was talking to my other half last night and asked if I had received anything from the TN DoS. (As you can tell I'm not home, or even in the country.) After a digging through the pile of mail, she said yeah, "you got some letter". Nothing important to her, but a HUGE deal to me!! After opeing it, she said it looks like your new drivers license. Aparrently I had this sitting on my counter for the last 3 days. Doesn't matter because I currently have the right to carry with no need for a permit.

As I said, I will allow my lesson to benefit others. I will take the high road on this one and prevent flaming anyone/shop. I was under the impression that this class was mandatory. I.E., this was the first step to gaining a TN HCP. Right or wrong, whats done is done. Either way, this has driven me to learn more about the local/state laws regarding weapons and carrying. That $50 could have been used to continue my 5.56 ammo conservation plan (ACP), in the event that Barack Osama gets elected.

These are the facts that need to brought to light, so future servicemembers can easily attain their HCP's. The way the DoS site reads, its hard to decifer exactly what their requirements are. Those mandatory videos could be put on Youtube or some equivalent site to give servicemembers a reference (not a good one, but atleasts its something), if they are totally unfamiliar with carrying. These are simply ideas to better the process. I doubt the government redtape will ever be eliminated, but the facts & information can be made easier to access.

Three weeks is enough time. I would call them around day 21 and have your yellow application copy readily available.

Since I haven't been able to fully exploit this method of the HCP application, my answer is I am not 100% sure. I would assume that your DD-214 must have an entry showing a pistol badge or training/qualification. Mine says " Expert Badge 9mm Pistol." I would go qualify just to have the extra documentation available if they ask for it. With my job, I also have a recent qualification from Gryphon Group Security using the Marine Corp shooting tables. My DD214 and the Qual, in theory, should have been enough according to the satisfy the requirements. I will make some calls when I return to the Tennessee in October and see what I can find out. I'm all for helping the next guy get through this process.

Knowledge is power!! After some reading, I realize I got duped out of my $50 for my HCP class. A simple question from the shop owner/instructor would have made this simple exemption known. I could have used my DD-214 and my recent documented pistol qual. Allow my mistake to be used by others recently exiting the service. If you exited the service within the last 5 years AND have a pistol training/qualification documented on your DD214, SAVE YOUR MONEY. Now I say that with the understanding that you can safely handle and shoot a pistol. Truly the only thing I got from the class was the understanding of companies/properties posting weapons restricted signs. References: Effective July 1, 2005, Tennessee handgun carry permit law will now allow certain applicants already exempt from complying with firing range provisions of the current statute to also be exempt from any classroom requirements. Those current exceptions are applicants who prove to the department that within five (5) years from the date of application for handgun permit, the applicant has: <LI class=bodytext>Been certified by the police officer's standards and training commission, or <LI class=bodytext>successfully completed training at the law enforcement training academy; or <LI class=bodytext>successfully completed the firearms training course required for armed security guards; or successfully completed all handgun training of not less than four (4) hours as required by any branch of the military. http://www.legallyarmed.com/resources/vet2.pdf

From my conversation with Jennifer, it sounds like there is a disconnect between her computer and the applications. After reading this forum, I would think of it like this: When a HCP applicant is asked for the "yellow copy", the individual on the phone sees no issues on their computer, the background checks are done, and you are approx 7-14 days away from getting the permit. I like the email option, as it was going directly to a person rather than a fax machine. I would suggest to anyone just applying, wait 3-4 weeks then call. That call seems to be the magic bump to the front of the line.

I got all my paperwork done and printed on July 24th. Today was a great day!! I called the DoS on Friday (AUG 22nd) to inquire about my HCP. I was polite and explained that I was out of the country. Jennifer asked my to fax her my yellow application. HHMMM, well this becomes an issue since I'm 1/2 the distance of the world away from that paper. I asked her if I could have it scanned and email it to her. She said that would be fine. I got a copy of the app and emailed it on AUG 25th. Got an email today (28th) saying it will be issued in 7-14 days!!

This event would be more exciting if they dropped a few floating mines into the pool.

That looks like a much better option, although it looks HUGE!! It would be nice if it folded back against the rail.
