  1. I went and test fired this today - 5 rounds without sights/optics just to make sure it worked.   Loaded a mag with a single round 3x, mag with two rounds once. Brass ejected at 4:00 but the bolt failed to lock back on an empty mag twice. The mag loaded with two rounds ejected the first but did not feed the second round.   Was using two C-Products 5 round mags. Failure to lock back happened once with each mag (I have 3 other mags available, just did not use them today). I think the rifle just needs broken in.     I have the scope picked out, just have to order it. Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 MOA version. Trying to decide between two mounts: Aero Unltralight extended - http://aeroprecisionusa.com/aspx/store/productdetail.aspx?pid=199 SWFA SSALT - http://swfa.com/SWFA-SSALT-30mm-Scope-Mount-P58814.aspx   I was going to order the Aero last night actually, but every place I checked was out of stock. Probably depends on when it comes back in stock versus when I decide to order the scope.
  2. There were plenty of sights, but dang am sorry I missed that one!
  3. I handled one today. Actually felt decent in hand. Trigger of course is heavy/long but wasn't too gritty on the one I handled. I will have one in hand in a few weeks. Will see how it handles - I would rather step up to a pocket 9mm but will see.
  4. I spent another 5 hours there today.... Really enjoyed seeing everything and talking to some people. Got lots of bullet samples from Berger, they were very generous and I can't wait to test them out. I handled the R51 today and will be interested in how the second production goes. The Remington reps said everything is worked out now so we will see.... I spent some time at the Sig booth, their optic and suppressor line looks great. I looked at the 4-16x44 tactical scope they have and it looks great - FFP, illuminated, IR mode... Slightly higher than the Vortex PST when they hit the street in August or so. My wife met a couple people from the Girls with Guns show. And Gabby Franco (Top Shot All Star) gave her shooting instructions at Nashville Armory. We should have the RM380 in about a month - not sure if she is going to keep it, or sell it and step up to a small 9mm.
  5. I walked by the PSA booth at least a dozen times the past 3 days and there was never a chick there!
  6. I saw a couple open carriers today. One kept walking around with his hand on the grip the whole time. I was concealed the entire time, all 3 days. I don't open carry much, if I am it is usually a range trip.
  7. My wife just got a call.....she entered the Remington ladies only giveaway today and won. She has to be at the Nashville Armory tomorrow to meet several female shooters, and won a new RM380. That will probably be a few hours so I am going to the NRA convention again I guess.
  8. Been here for 5 hours. Grabbed several more bullet samples - Sierra, Berger, Berry's, and Freedom/Xtreme. I spent some more time at the Vortex booth - decided I am going to get the PST 4-16x50 for my 6.8. Picked up a Vickers sling in Kryptek Typhon for the 6.8. They are selling for $30 at the show. Wife finally said she is tired of walking so we are heading out.
  9. On the way up there now. I'll be walking around with a green/black Citrix backpack on,if you see me say something. We will be there several hours.
  10. When I walked by wasn't anything you would want a picture of. I was shocked because I've seen pics of their other booths at other events. Hell they only had 3 ARs and nothing else if I remember right.
  11. It was a good time. I've been up since 2am because of work or may have stayed for some of the concert. But figured come home eat/sleep and head back tomorrow.
  12. I'm on my way now. Will have about 4.5 hours tonight then heading back tomorrow with plans to be there at 9am and stay all day.
  13. I used dryer sheets and nufinish polish. Lizard litter always left dust on the brass. My process was to pour the lizard litter between two buckets and let wind blow as much dust out as possible, but even with that the walnut broke down too quickly and turned to dust.
  14. It works but is too dusty IMO. Try using this bird litter. It is nowhere near as dusty, not quite as fine. So far no issues with sticking in flash holes. http://www.amazon.com/Kaytee-Walnut-Bedding-Litter-7-Pound/dp/B00BUFRZU2
  15. You are really over thinking this... I am taking my wife along and going to hand her all the stuff I grab. Keeps my hands free and keeps her occupied so no whining about wanting to leave. :) Joking, kind of. I mentioned I was going to be gone that day, she asked why and then said she would go with me to look around. I plan on bringing a backpack with me to put stuff in, but as stated vendors usually have bags they give out.
  16. I was very tempted to take it out and function fire today with no sights, but managed some control and waiting until I get the scope I want. I did sit down and load up some ammo to go along with the 100 rounds of SSA 100gr Accubonds I bought. Loaded up some batches of Hornady 110gr BTHP and 120gr SST.
  17. C-Product mags. They were $10 each, I grabbed several 5 round and one 10 round.
  18.   Ha!!!  Well thank you, not a comment I was expecting.... my secret camera - Moto X gen2 with the Google camera app and HDR enabled.
  19. I almost had the rail cerakoted to match the grip, but the more I looked at it, I decided I liked the single off color.
  20. I originally wanted to go with the Troy Medieval brake, but saw this YHM for a good price. A quick search showed generally positive reviews so I grabbed it. I am tempted to go function fire it this weekend without a scope, probably be another month before I buy the scope I want. May throw up a WTB ad here and see if anyone has a scope close to what I had my mind set on.
  21. Strike Industries. I have used a couple of them now, very simple to install or remove. https://www.primaryarms.com/Strike_Industries_Enhanced_Ultimate_Dust_Cover_C_p/si-ar-udc-e-223-03-bk.htm
  22. I have talked about this for months, and finally complete (thanks to some great ideas on how to fix a muzzle brake index issue in the troubleshooting forum)! Built this to deer hunt with, and mid-range target shooting (500-600 yards). Things still to add: Scope - looking at a Vortex Viper 4-14x44 Dedicated bolt carrier - plan to buy a Stag Arms 6.8 BCG and keep that bolt as a spare Possibly a bipod - Caldwell has a Harris style that seems to have high reviews. Receivers are from Palmetto State - I thought about going with a "higher end" set but PSA receivers have worked well for me so far. Lower: Gray Magpul Moe K2 grip Ambi selector Seekins enhanced bolt catch/release Larue Tactical MBT-2S trigger VLTOR Emod buttstock Upper: 16" socom profile barrel from ARP (AR15Performance). It has their hybrid 5R 1:11.25" twist, melonite finished. Matched ARP 6.8 Superbolt 15" Seekins keymod rail YHM gas block YHM slant muzzle brake Strike Industries extended latch charging handle BCM keymod QD sling adaptor BCM keymod vertical grip - likely will get replaced with bipod
  23. Was working my way around, the issue was the barrel twisting when I hit 50 pounds of pressure on the wrench. Sanding down the crush washer did the trick though.   Pics coming in the Show & Tell forum in a few.
  24. Woo hoo. Just needed people smarter than me. Crushed the washer a bit in my vise, than ran both sides across some sandpaper for a few seconds. Finally got the brake to index correctly! Thank you all! Next time I will be checking into the jam nut to avoid this.
  25. Just put torque wrench on, hit 50 pounds before barrel spun in the leather belt. I took it off, crushed the washer slightly with my vise, hit 50 pounds again on the wrench but the brake is at 9:00
