  1. Just think of all the opportunities to use "He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!"
  2. Not enough information to make a call on this one. The closeness required for tasering makes me think it was probably uncalled for but if it was in close enough proximity to traffic, a struggle may not have been the best course of action.   I do think that tasers have become over-used though. There's a reason they've started calling them less-lethal instead of non-lethal.
  3.   I met a guy called Reefer Doobie. His folks were big hippies.   This judge needs to be removed. I see at least three levels of wrong in what she did and probably could find more without looking too hard.
  4. It was not terrible but nothing called out for me (though I am looking fairly hard). Saw a used p99 I would have bit on if the slide had been a different color. Also think the pk380 is on my "to buy" list if I can find one at the right price.   I'm really finding I have a block on buying from dealers right now. Between the taxes and de-facto registration, I'm not seeing the value proposition. Mind you, it seems like a lot of the used market is asking well above msrp.
  5.     We should all be Hams anyway. I can't remember my callsign offhand. I really haven't got set up properly since I took the test.
  6. I think this is a "angels on the head of a pin" argument. Sure, such legislation should never even be crafted but with the system we have, it will be. The question is how to deal with it when it is. I think there's a lot to be said for legislation going to a full vote rather than being stalled in procedure. They are supposed to be representatives after all. Then again, there is way too much politicing coming into things.   To me, our protections should be the oath they take (allbeit that many are slimy bastards), legislative debate (too much politicing) then judicial review (many problems of its own). Possibly the president's signature should be in there somewhere but that's hardly worth mentioning these days. Procedural shenanigans don't really have a place and can be abused by good and bad alike.
  7. Where the free market is failing here is that logically, the ammo producers and the retailers should be upping their prices to ensure that ammo can be bought by those who use it. Unfortunately, this would result in much screaming and crying by those who don't understand the free market about being gouged so they keep the prices at or close to regular prices "for our loyal customers" and so the scalpers come in, buy it up and exploit the opportunity and exacerbate and prolong the problem.
  8.     Sure, the story is about guns. And they do want to take them away. The angle I'm picking up though is "Whitey wants to keep his guns so he can shoot black people. Keep voting Democrat or have your family murdered on the way back from the store". The left love to talk down to people.
  9.   That is not about guns, that is trying to drive a race wedge down the middle of the country to keep black people voting Democrat.
  10. Being an economic powerhouse that could turn that power to war and swat other countries like a bodybuilder could swat a little girl was responsible for that. Unnecessary military spending and other economic waste has drained that power drastically and made America vulnerable.
  11. You know what might do well for a prepper store? Allow people to buy one of those "Pods" type containers fully stocked with food, water, batteries, flashlights, tablet loaded with survival information in a EMP-proof container and other supplies for however many months and have it dropped off at a discreet time of night. Many people like the idea of prepping but truthfully, it's a bit of a chore   Might make you a bit of a target, perhaps have camo as an optional extra.     REI is an interesting store but it's not really geared towards prepping. There is some degree of crossover but it's actually fairly slim.
  12.   Haha, yeah... Those funny people with their ideals and principles. Losers. TEAM RED!!! or blue. Just pick one, doesn't matter which.
  13.   They could go to a retro store and buy a bunch of 70s clothing if they wanted to do that.
  14. But the polls are calculated (ideally) to predict the outcome, not reveal the candidate with the most sympathetic proposals.   I'm not unsympathetic to the whole "lesser evil" philosophy (though I think it's misguided), I would suggest this. If your "gotta vote for a winner" party is going to win by a landslide, or lose by a landslide, pick the candidate who most represents your views and vote for them.
  15.   Yes, neither way got either of your desired result but when the votes were counted, yours was tallied against a guy who didn't represent your ideals.       You yourself said you wouldn't vote for these parties because they had no chance to win. Every vote they can get is a step closer to being considered a viable choice for more people.
  16.   McCain mostly gained ground in open primaries where Democrats were allowed to vote.
  17.   Everyone knows that step 1 is to start punching a tree.     WRT the weight thing, I'm sure I would probably drop something like that in that length of time even if I was doing everything perfectly. But I live a pretty cushy life.
  18. I have been looking for survival stores. The two I managed to find around Nashville were not in business anymore when I tried to get more details.   I'd love to see one but you need to be careful with your business plan, I suspect. Maybe don't pick somewhere with high overhead. People will be willing to travel to you (within reason) and make sure to have a mail-order/web-store going on as well.
  19.   The thing is, it's clear that this shortage is just short-term. So new entrants would suddenly find themselves up against well established competition in a shrinking market. The only way this shortage isn't short-term is if the government pull some anti-gun shenanigans which would lead to an even smaller market.   So it's not really good for encouraging competition and established players, if they're smart, will only ramp up production in ways which won't leave them with a bunch of idle equipment and a heap of debt come 2014.
  20. Hoarding is not a big issue. A hoarder will buy once or twice and that is all the effect they will have on the supply chain. What we are seeing is panic buying having an effect on an inelastic supply chain. Though the panic is not completely irrational. If you know it is possibly going to be hard to get a good in the future, it makes sense to buy it when you see it. That leads to it being hard to get that good in the future. The cycle continues until everyone has "enough". And more than a few people will have "Too much" which could lead to some bargains in the future.   Patience is the best thing to have right now. If you need ammo to shoot, that's one thing. If you (sensibly) just want to keep some on hand for whatever (including a repeat of this shortage), just wait. The apocalypse /probably/ isn't going to happen tomorrow and if you feel that way, you should have stocked up when the availability was good. Start putting some money aside and calculating what you need as a reasonable stash.   Think of it as a correction. Too many people had too little ammo.
  21. Even still, it should still mean they're prioritizing new permits (and possibly renewals) over othe kinds of issuance.
  22. My replacement (not renewal) took forever. I believe there's some kind of minimum time allowed for them to put out new permits so I suspect replacements and duplicates get back-burnered. It sounds like renewals get dealt with reasonably quickly though.
  23.     The new place that opened up in Cool Springs had plenty last time I was in (except .22, sadly). That was a couple of months ago though.
  24.   That also means they're not valid under law and can be ignored. Though you may not want to give them your money anyway.
