  1.   Then you end up with the situation where if you have a nice rack or you're the nephew of Senator Whassname, you pick up significantly less tickets than us regular slobs. If there is any discretion to be applied, it should be written into the law.
  2.   Meh, I think it's incumbent on every man to decide in his own conscience what constitutes a legally constituted law. But on the other hand, I agree that that's mitigated to some degree for law enforcement (Though it still applies in general).   Edit: Given other information revealed above, it sounds like this Sheriff was totally in the wrong. It is one thing not to enforce a law (especially if it violates your conscience), totally another to back out something already done. And for "good old boy" reasons? Throw the book at him (they won't).
  3.   Florida's constitution:       Is requiring a permit regulating the manner of bearing arms? I would argue not. Feel free to disagree.   Then again, it's a pretty terribly written clause. They could require that you have to carry it in a 50lb lead holster.
  4. Probably time to drop it for heteros too. It used to be a special once-in-a-lifetime event but at one place, a lady there went through at least three names in the few years I was there. Just lump it all in as PTO. It seems to be the way things are going anyway.
  5. If you want to go really dumb, check out the motofone f3. Designed for the 3rd world so low on features but incredible battery life. I bought one when I visited England (can't beat £10) but it's only dual band so doesn't work here. There are US compatible versions out there.
  6. I'm not so much on the doomsday. Though it's possibly something could happen. I'm more concerned about fairly short-term disruptions to infrastructure. Power out, civil unrest, fires, floods. These are all things that happen fairly often. Don't want to get shanked scrabbling for the last pack of TP.
  7. This is the man who halted his campaign against the man who would become the worst president ever in order to travel to Washington to work out how to give a trillion dollars of our money to rich people. It's time he went away.
  8. I looked into this option back in April sometime when things started getting crazy. All the sites that sold the unfinished parts said they were back-ordered until October or later. Things do change but you may want to verify you can get the parts before making plans.   I was actually considering buying a mill and making it cnc to make one completely from scratch but ARs are fairly available now (if still at higher prices)
  9. I'm sure this case will be thrown out. And with any luck, every time this cop comes up for promotion, they'll shake their heads, say "Not this dumbass again" and he'll be stuck writing speeding tickets until he gives up and gets a job poking pigs with sticks or something.   No one should be having to second guess themselves when calling 911 when there's a threat to their life.
  10.   Or a return address of the local police department :D
  11. I saw some woman park and get out of at Walmart and kick a bunch of trash (fast food stuff) out on the ground. She was driving a pickup so you can guess where that ended up. I believe I left her a shitty note too.   Littering annoys me. There's rarely any excuse for it. The ballfield at the local school is next to a place I walk and often when I go past, the stands are filled with all sorts of food trash. Take some pride, people.
  12. This is also a reason why fancy "safety" electronics (like RFID) on a gun are not a good idea.
  13. That just reminded me of this: Linky: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:28530
  14. You guys don't sleep with a flashbang under your pillow?
  15.   I disagree. Whilst there is some superficial resemblance and crossover, the basic assumptions and rationales are quite different.   I am familiar with REI and have put some thought into prepping (though nowhere near enough action) and REI is probably one of the last places I'd go for most of my stuff.
  16.     The words coming out of the "judge's" mouth in the video I saw seemed to pretty much condemn her actions in my eyes. Quite horrific.
  17. There's a big difference between "giving the benefit of the doubt" and saying "I simply don't have enough information to make a determination". People do far too little of the latter (and far too much of the former and its converse).
  18.   Good for me when I went to sell my old minivan too as all the competition had been destroyed in the junkyards and I was able to get more than it was really worth. Not so good for those poor people starting out in life who are trying to get a cheap, reliable vehicle though.
  19. Thing is, if you go back far enough, it would be hard *not* to find some royalty or nobleman in there somewhere.
  20. I still haven't got it quite straight in my head what all the new designations for the P99 are. When I bought mine, there was only the DA/SA available. Then I heard something about a DA only version for cops who had itchy trigger fingers, now there's AS/S/QS/PPQ, whatnot. I just want the same as what I had. Actually, I'd prefer that one back, f*****g thieves!
  21.   Yup. Same with the digital boxes, cash for clunkers, higher education and all the other stuff government likes to throw money at. The price always goes up to compensate for the subsidy and the consumer ends up paying the same net price since that is what the market will support.   One thing that geothermal co that advertises on the radio keeps mentioning is that with their financing, you should start saving money from day 1. I have to say, I'm interested in it but I have a healthy dose of scepticism about it too. I'm also trying to avoid debt in general even if it makes sense on paper.
  22. 1st generation immigrant so I know where I came from. Don't really know about the ancestry though, that seems to be a particularly American obsession (unless you own castles and suchlike).
  23. I thought we were out of it on Saturday. But here it is again. Should be nice for the electric bill though.
