  1. I think I've seen 10 sitting on the shelf at Dickson Walmart for a while now.
  2. Personally, I'd look at keeping the truck but buy a more efficient family vehicle in addition but then again I don't really feel much need for a truck myself in the first place so YMMV.
  3.   Yeah. Given that you get a renewal notice, seems like there's an ulterior motive behind this. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing.
  4. Yep. There's a reason TN doesn't have a state income tax and it isn't because people sit around saying "The taxes ain't so bad".
  5.   Unless all the phones are in a sack.   I have to think it's just rumors though. They would know which tower those phones were using in zero time.
  6. tl;dw. What time does anything happen?
  7. Yep. The GPS part is basically a done deal. The tricky part is long-range communications. That's basically a solved problem also but just trickier. You either need enough power to reach a long way, the ability to aim a signal at a moving LEO satellite from a platform travelling at a few hundred mph or aiming at a geosynchronous satellite even further away (again from a moving platform).   Edit: Iridium apparently does not utilize any kind of directional signal so I guess something along those lines would be an option.
  8. And bear in mind, the job of a transponder is (mostly) safety related, being used to manage air traffic in high density areas. In the cases of accidents (or whatever it is) like this one, more than likely, knowing where the plane was last located isn't going to do the dead bodies much good.
  9.   A transponder is just a small device that transmits a coded signal. It has very limited range. and its location is determined by the ground equipment.
  10. I think the conclusion was that there were a lot of aircraft and this kind of incident is extremely rare. Of course, there are several other safety features about which the same could be said but there you go.
  11.   I remember getting in discussions like this when a plane went missing in the Atlantic and the simple truth is that, whatever you'd like to believe, most planes don't have this kind of tracking.
  12.   Were they definitely within radio range?
  13. Haveta say, what I saw last time does not make me inclined to get involved with this one.
  14. Satire is not just "making shit up" as some of these sites seem to think. There needs to be irony, humor and a little bit of a wink that it's not actual truth that's being portrayed.
  15. "Suffer the little children to come unto me". Sorry, I have that kind of memory.
  16. Yeah. Like the cop who knows the guy that murdered your sister but keeps it quiet.
  17. It appears that the state with the lowest income level is Mississippi     Perhaps everywhere else you should get offered the same welfare level as Mississippi and the choice to either get by on it or get a free one-way ticket there.   (Or perhaps to any state if you think you can manage there)
  18. I think MacGuyver must be working in cahoots with a divorce lawyer.
  19. I'm a big advocate of keeping religion out of government but I just have to shake my head at things like this.
  20. Mail. Who wants to go anywhere near the DMV if they can help it? (no offense intended to any DMV workers present)
  21.   I always figured it was a bit more allegorical and covered anyone who lived a life of violence.
  22. The very "bottom" of the banana is often a bit woody and not pleasant. I usually leave it. I always seem to have enough thumbnail to score the stem to allow it to peel back easily in any case.   I also agree with Mike about the handles on an apple and I usually stop at the core because of the hard bits around the seeds. The core usually contains less flavor in any case.
  23. Like this?
  24.   You always get to pick and choose.   Always.
  25. For sure. Debt just makes unemployment an acute situation. You can cut off cable, you can eat Ramen, in extremis, you can even do without the electricity but if there are people demanding 2-3k (or more) from you every month, that income is essential. If you owe on your car, loss of that will reduce your options for finding new employment drastically.   If you have no debt, that 3-6 month emergency fund is a whole different ballgame.
