  1. I mean honestly..why don't they secede from the union and be done with it. Berkeley gives Marines the boot City Council says recruiting station not welcome; military mum for now By Doug Oakley, STAFF WRITER Article Last Updated: 01/31/2008 09:47:45 AM PST Anti-war protestors outside the Marine recruiting office on Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley Wednesday. (Doug Oakley/MediaNews) BERKELEY — Hey-hey, ho-ho, the Marines in Berkeley have got to go. That's the message from the Berkeley City Council, which voted 8-1 to tell the U.S. Marines that its Shattuck Avenue recruiting station "is not welcome in the city, and if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome intruders." In addition, the council voted to explore enforcing its law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation against the Marines because of the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. And it officially encouraged the women's peace group Code Pink to impede the work of the Marines in the city by protesting in front of the station. In a separate item, the council voted 8-1 to give Code Pink a designated parking space in front of the recruiting station once a week for six months and a free sound permit for protesting once a week from noon to 4 p.m. Councilman Gordon Wozniak opposed both items. The Marines have been in Berkeley for a little more than a year, having moved from Alameda in December 2006. For about the past four months, Code Pink has been protesting in front of the station. "I believe in the Code Pink cause. The Marines don't belong here, they shouldn't have come here, and they should leave," Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates said after votes were cast. A Marines representative did not respond to requests for comment. The resolution telling the Marines they are unwelcome and directing the city attorney Advertisement to explore issues of sexual orientation discrimination was brought to the council by the city's Peace and Justice commission. The recommendation to give Code Pink a parking space for protesting and a free sound permit was brought by council members Linda Maio and Max Anderson. Code Pink on Wednesday started circulating petitions to put a measure on the November ballot in Berkeley that would make it more difficult to open military recruiting offices near homes, parks, schools, churches libraries or health clinics. The group needs 5,000 signatures to make the ballot. Even though the council items passed, not everyone is happy with the work of Code Pink. Some employees and owners of businesses near the Marines office have had enough of the group and its protests. "My husband's business is right upstairs, and this (protesting) is bordering on harassment," Dori Schmidt told the council. "I hope this stops." An employee of a nearby business who asked not to be identified said Wednesday the elderly Code Pink protesters are aggressive, take up parking spaces, block the sidewalk with their yoga moves, smoke in the doorways, and are noisy. "Most of the people around here think they're a joke," the woman said. Wozniak said he was opposed to giving Code Pink a parking space because it favors free speech rights of one group over another. "There's a line between protesting and harassing, and that concerns me," Wozniak said. "It looks like we are showing favoritism. We have to respect the other side, and not abuse their rights. This is not good policy." Fran Rachel, 90, a Code Pink protester who spoke at the council meeting, said the group's request for a parking space and noise permit was especially important because the Marines are recruiting soldiers who may die in an unjust war. "This is very serious," Rachel said. "This isn't a game; it's mass murder. There's a sickness of silence of people not speaking out against the war. We have to do this." Anderson, a former Marine who said he was "drummed out" of the corps when he took a stand against the Vietnam War, said he'd love to see the Marines high-tail it out of town. "We are confronted with an organization that can spend billions of dollars on propaganda," Anderson said. "This is not Okinawa here; we're involved in a naked act of aggression. If we can provide a space for ordinary people to express themselves against this kind of barbarity, then we should be doing it."
  2. That makes him a good soldier...NOT a good president. The ex pow McCain might have been a good president...NOt the Washington DC version we have now. I won't excuse his current stance on immigration, gun control, etc just because he was a POW. That's the same argument the sheep make when some thugs gets shot committing a crime. Why did they shoot him...he was such a good boy who made a mistake. No matter your past...you must own up to the situation that YOUR actions have put YOU into. No free ride just because you did something good in the past.
  3. I have posted on here about the lack of response to several emails I've bent my house rep (Ben West) regarding the restaurant carry bill. I had forgotten that he was one of the main sponsors of the original carry bill when we went to "shall issue" Instead of e-mailing me back, as I had been expecting. He called me today to make sure I understood that he was 100% behind the bill..but as we all know the judiciary committee and Naifeh in Mr Wests word, just don't what the bill to pass. He said he is talking to all his friends in the house, some of who are on the committee, and it if comes to the floor it's got a good shot passage...but...the same old two roadblocks to any progress are still there. He also expressed some of the same gripes we have about leaving guns at home/in cars juswt because we want something better than a burger. Not GREAT news, but..news none the less.
  4. I play with cars when I have time
  5. I was there Friday, but I didn't hear tell of a gunsmith yet...but I didn't ask. I know the leather smith hasn't moved into his new digs yet...waiting on paint and carpet.
  6. Hillary has SS...Secret Service around her at all times. Not only is getting paid for NOT working in the Senate...we're paying her security detail to be abused as well.
  7. Sounds like the same response I've gotten gotten my reps in the house and senate. nothing at all.
  8. This piece of trash doesn't deserve to see the light of day SB3395 01197072 -1- HOUSE BILL 3245 By Miller L SENATE BILL 3395 By Tate AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 39, Chapter 17, Part 13, to enact the “Ammunition Accountability Actâ€. 9. The restaurants can be taken on one at a time. If you want to do business there after they put up a sign...then fine. If the bill gets passed I think a lot of restaurant will "forget" about the signs. If some post them, then that will point out where to spend your money, or where to talk to management to get the signs removed. It's a dang sight better than this BS law we have now.
  10. no difference than using a bluegun in a training scenario. I can see where using it would be helpful in training. I'd feel better with that barrel sticking out of a gun pointed @ me in training than any "unloaded" gun.
  11. Can't this this stopping power out of a Glock buddy :-)
  12. not to mention their signage doesn't meet the legal requirements
  13. Start pounding on your reps people...we need this bill passed. I'm (un) hopeful now that we have a new NRA lobbyist they won't butt heads with the head zombie this time.
  14. my regular polling place is in a school so thats out. I've never seen a sign at the early voting places. I don't THINK libraries are off limit by statute...and I don't remember seeing a sign Isn't it funny you have to wonder about one of your constitutional rights being in direct conflicit with another.
  15. put me in for the shotgun class as well Len :-)
  16. Worth every bit of time, effort, energy and money spent. Training in a more "real world" situations than normal range time, The NRA approved draw sequence is rather odd, but you get used to it. The range time didn't seemed rushed at all until the end. The owner wanted to go home, we wanted to go longer...I still had ammo left over. We were given the chance to shoot low light/no light with Surefires, speed rocks, shooting from retention, all the fun stuff normal ranges frown on
  17. yep... The last meeting I attended all I did was toss out the ideas that David and I talked about openly in the previous meeting. He made the notes, we had some PMs/e-mails about TFA things...then the next meeting was canceled, and...that was that. TGO is a great example of what can happen when people invest their time and people are willing to help. I wish nothing but the best for the TFA, and if the meetings work out then I'll also look at attending. Sitting in a room and listening to people plan not to meet was counterproductive at the least....actually it pissed me off and made me feel like I was wasting my time even bothering with it.
  18. Save this site and open it next time you take a flight...easy way to find out 1. If there's an Air Marshall on board 2. How fast a 747 can land 3. What a body cavity search is really like http://boortz.com/mp3/archive/countdown.swf
  19. I had the same problem, only with a new vendor. He wanted to drive to meet a client we were going to cooperating on a project for. 3/4s of the way to the site, the client calls him and wants to take us to lunch...at OCharleys. I didn't leave my gun in Nashville while I was being driven to Clarksville, so I had to bite the "bullet" and ask a guy that barely knew me if I could borrow his glovebox. Only bad thing that came out of it was now he asks me...in front of anyone if I'm packing
  20. ...too sad. I don't understand why it's so hard to get a chapter going here. But I have to side W/ you Tungsten....it's like bailing the water out of a bot once it's sitting on the bottom of the lake.
  21. Happy birthday dude. If I would have known...or paid attention :-) I would have bought you a box of ammo Friday
  22. They were a really good backup location. I have clients all over Mid TN who will call me out for one little problem, then end up needing all sorts of crap. CompUSA was local, stocking gave a almost decent reseller discount. It was easy to run and pickup parts and lunch @ the same time. I was told that the 100 Oaks store was getting shipments in from other stores to help move inventory. They has a decent Toshiba laptop for around 600.00. All it needed was another gig of memory installed to be a good laptop
  23. I've got training with Len @ HGR or I'd be there. Whens the next shoot up there?
  24. damn Frank...that was harsh before 10am :-)
  25. It's a blind drop...jeez...you "civilians' don't know nuthin 'bout this super secret spy stuff oops....dang..now ya'll gone and got me to give up some TSOC stuff. :koolaid: Please pourt a glass and pass it down. Or...the guy is so full of BS that he can't even get his own address right. All I'm worried about at the end of the day is getting home...the rest of the world can try and keep up.
