All:____________ As ive said several times before; i believe Ramsey is "bought and paid for" by the Haslam camp and can be counted on to back Haslam in whatever issue (...no matter how stupid...) or position he takes up. The payoff: "...Backing from the Haslam organization in a future gubanatorial election after the "Snozz" runs for Alexander's senate seat to take his "rightful place" in the political arena.... . Remember this: "....Most polititians can be bought. Once you establish that they can be bought, the only thing left is to quibble over the price...". I like Ramsey, but he is, at heart, a sorry polititian. Having said all this; if fully understand that it will be offensive to some, but i firmly believe it is the truth. Unitil we decide as a society that work is honorable, that telling the truth is best, that being "on the dole" is laziness, that capitalism is a benign economic force, government is best that meddles least, and minding our business in world affairs is the right thing to do; we will continue this (...as HvyMtl so aptly put it....) "death spiral". Polititians of both stripes have lead us into a full fledged class war and they have jerrymandered the population groups to about 50/50 who are "pro work and pro America" versus those somehow "on the dole" and "socialist" (...whether they profess it or not...). We've seen this back and forth pull since the 30's when the great god Roosevelt started the "people's socialist revolution" in amerika. Socialist economic policies always lead to economic failure. No country that has embraced socialism has ever sustained itself economically. We have lasted longer than any of the other countries with this stupidity because we had far more prosperity (...read that money and commerce...) than the others had. These failed economies have rejected socialism. Look at what is happening in europe and in china. Nobama and his socialist crowd are just accelerating the inevitable. The fact is that you cannot tax yourself into prosperity, have fifty percent of people not paying taxes (...other than SS and Medicare...), beat business up, regulate everything to death (...enviornmental, etc...), pass out more largesse (...that we have to borrow...) to buy more votes, and persecute "endless wars" sacrificing our sons and daughters for people that hate us and continue to be prosperous. The polititians are busy looting the country and killing the goose that laid the golden egg. You younger members of this forum may well see the time when no one is risking their life to cross the border to come to Amerika. I believe we are providentially blinded. Folks need to wake up if they dont want their children (...and mabee even this generation...) to be poor. Libertarian leroy

All:____________ I've said before that Haslam is using the "Howard Baker" and "Lamar Alexander" playbook to do his political posturing. Haslam simply says what each constituency wants to hear and then makes some seemingly reasonable pronouncement such as "i believe we should let the administrators make that decision"; and that he finds "troublesome" any pronouncement that holds these "administrators" to any reasonable standard (...e.g.-- keeping our children safe at college...). I contend that Ramsey is "bought and paid for" by the Haslam camp and can be counted on to back Haslam in whatever he says. I agree with JAB. Polititians are all "polititians". I disagree with him on McWherter. McWherter is a socialist; Haslam is, at least, a capitalist. All that being said; you are seeing exactly what is wrong with politics. It's all about deals; not "doing the right thing". They are all in it together. We need to clean both parties out. That's why you need something like the "Tea Party". The only problem is that the good rev didn't use any "fighting words" (...that we know of; or that anyone can find from what im able to read; it appears to be quite the contrary...), he didn't curse anyone, ect. ect. that i can tell. He did, however, gently call into question the motives of the local constabulary and city fathers. I suspect that is his only crime here. Of course the prosecutor is going to try to make the case that that was his intent; it's the only excuse they can hang their hats on to justify what was done. If the rev. intends to make something of this (...other than just talk...); he needs to appeal this ruling. I dont know whether he will or not. While we are on the subject; i wonder just what evidence was used to prove that the good rev. intended to incite violence other than a bunch of opinions from "experts" in the legal field (...read that prosecutors...) and the law enforcement community (...read that chief of police...)? Since we have your attention (...and i appreciate it; believe it or not...); how is the good rev's case different from the Westboro Baptist Church case? I understand that the Westboro folks say bad things directly about those who are fighting for us. Why are these not "fighting words" when said to grieving relatives? It appears (...to me, at least...) that the good rev. is only pointing out that the koran sanctions some hateful things and is asking to speak them in a 'public forum". We can quibble about where that "public forum" is; but why is he not entitled to say these things as political free speech? We seem to be saying that in the Westboro case, that there were no "fighting words"; or that those who hear "fighting words" are responsible to act "responsibly", and not commit crimes as the result of hearing them said. It seems to me (...from what we are able to read...) that the rev. has spoken no "fighting words" other than proclaiming that the koran is a "hate filled book"; which he can easily prove thru the actual passages. What "mechanism" does the good rev. use to induce these "fighting words" other than the citation of the specific passages? Are we saying here that if we are a devout muslum, we can perpetrate violence on "infidels" as the result of them saying what we (...as devout muslums...) may construe as "fighting words" on the grounds that it is a legitimate exercise of religious belief and custom? I saw this one too. Very tragic, yet very interesting. It would appear that thugs are running wild in Britain. My guess is that these thugs are not indigenous natives. If you watch closely, you will see a bunch of posts on Drudge about foreign crime in Britain. There is lots of rape done by roving gangs of foreign men (...read that muslum...). I wonder when the children of the folks that conquered the world in the 18th and 19th centuries are goin to get tired of all this?!...Remember this; no more than one hundred years ago; the British Army and Royal Governors of India tried and executed hindus who dared to burn the wives of their dead masters; as was the hindu custom. No one jumped on ya. They simply disagreed with ya. While we're on the subject; i'm old enough to remember the sixties hippies and their support of North Vietnam. The hippies actions certainly bolstered North vietnam and China's resolve, resulting in american deaths. The courts held that the hippies actions and speech were protected regardless of the possibility of increased casulties. The difference between then and today is that there was no multicultural baloney in the sixties. There were, however, a few people who believed that "free political speech" is free political speech. Never confuse discussion with "attack" or being "jumped on". It aint the same thing. By the way; i dont believe this one either: Got any precedents for it? leroy

I think it will if the Republicans contrast their candidate with Nobama. Nobama aint likeable; Carter was. His (...Nobama's and Carter's...) policies are destructive, and lots of people (...both Dems and everybody else...) are waking up to that. More than that; Nobama will never be able to keep his cool in debates. His character and demeanor is such that he cant take opposing criticism without showing his temper; just like a petulent child (...which is exactly what i think he really is...). Take the time to watch his replies to genuinely honest questions that challenge his judgement or philosophy. He fuzzes up pretty quickly. I predict that Nobama and his socialist operatives will have a miserable campaign this time around if the opposing part(ies) do the right thing. Here's hopin! leroy

Mav nailed this one dead on. Remember, violence is an unlawful act (...in most cases...). When a bunch of thugs beat up someone who says something they dont agree with; that is a genuine crime. What the person said to "incite the crime" is a judgement of those doing the beating. Flag burning, bible burning, constitution burning all are forms of "free political speech"; and the courts have already ruled on that and; by the way, put anyone in jail that did not agree with their findings who tooks matters into their own hands to flog or beat those speaking this "free political speech". The ratty lawyers and bureaucrats well know that in Wayne county and everywhere else. This one aint kin to the 'hollering fire in a crowded theatre" arguement. The arguement there is that innocents will be trampled in the exodus, thereby endangering the innocent. Everybody that perpetrates "violence" is a criminal in the 'keep the peace" agruement. This one is clearly unconstitutional. As Mav has so elequently stated: " ...There are no special rights in this country. There is no right to be free from offense, and I hope to God we never create one. ..." Remember this: Totalitarian states are the ultimate end of preemptive "suspending of freedoms" (....read that: speech, assembly, bearing of arms, press, etc....) in the name of "keeping the peace" or the "Collective Good"... Said another way; you can have no "Marketplace of Ideas" if there are "gatekeepers" who can decide what ideas are acceptable or not. Ya either got these freedoms or you dont; there is no half way or "special condition" with them. It seems to me that the citizenry and legal community of Wayne county dont know too much about freedoms. Kinda looks to me like they are using the old Soviet monaker of banning things they dont agree with under the ole "against the Collective Good banner". leroy

All:_______________ Ran up on this article on Drudge this morning: Pastor Terry Jones released from custody after his bond is posted Think about this a bit: The members of the infamous Westboro Baptist Church have "Free Speech Rights" to protest at a military funeral; all upheld by the Federal Court. The Rev. Terry Jones does not have free speech rights (....Yes Muhammed; burning the Koran is "Freedom of Speech"; because i remember when flag burning and bible burning were "freedom of speech" issues in the sixties and seventies; and the courts held it as such ...) according to a Wayne County, Michigan county court. It appears to me that the Wayne County folks could be the embodiment of "Animal Farm". "....All animals are equal; it's just that some animals are MORE EQUAL than others...". It appears that, in Wayne County at least, "peace trumps everything"; including the Constitution. This one will be interesting to watch. I wonder where all the "Freedom of Speech" advocates are at on this one? It kinda looks to me like the Dearborn Islamic community has won this one. They have intimidated everyone else (...including law enforcement and the justice system...) into doing their bidding by threatening violence; and making those threats well known in the community. The reason for the Rev's denial and guilty verdict: "....Such an action (...burning the Koran...) would "breach the peace"... I wonder if it would be "breaching the peace" to burn the Bible in front of the local Catholic and Baptist churches in Dearborn (...if there are any left; and if the local populus hasn't burned them down yet...)?.... Folks:___________________ All this "Nobama has low approval, but still beats the GOP (...or others....)" is all propaganda ginned up by the Demorats and their buddies in the media to plant the lie that Nobama cant be beat. When the Repubs finally get around to picking a "real candidate" who can clearly and articulately contrast themselves against this bunch of trash the real campaign will be on. If the republicans dont meet this chump head on and do the right thing (...and there is some possiblilty that they wont...), i predict they will be extinct by the next election cycle, and the Libertarians will take their place as a "conservative" party. Nobama can be beat. His policies are exactly like Jimmy Carter's were. If he goes up against a "real candidate"; he will loose in a landslide. Dont believe this bunk about him being unbeatable. There are several republicans who can beat Nobama in a walk; most of them are sitting state governors. leroy

All:_______________ It all depends on just how big the hammer is. I remember well using a sledge hammer to drive fence post in the winter time. We would wait until the rainy time had started (...usually about the end of November...) to build or fix fence. We would sharpen the end of locust posts, take a sledge hammer, and drive them into the ground. The only problem was that you either needed to stand on a wagon bed to start the posts; or hold the hammer about shoulder high for the first several blows. It is a helluva way to work; its tough to drive posts that way. The upside was that it was a quick way to get posts into the ground... You could drive 5 or 6 in the time it would take to dig a hole for one (...that was in the late 50's; before power or pto type augers for the tractor...). The only time we would take the time to dig a hole would be to set corner and gate posts that carried a lot of load. We used uncle Charlie's special stash of used power poles for that duty. All cut to length with a two man crosscut saw. We dug the holes with uncle Charlie's special "long handle" posthole diggers. My uncle Charlie was an old Bell Telephone lineman who started with the phone company in the thirties. He could drive posts all day and dig to the center of the earth with the old time posthole diggers. Driving the line posts is lots faster than digging holes for them. Another great plus was that you didn't need to go to the gym to get a good workout. The sledge hammer solved that problem for ya. Exercise plus productive work; what a concept!!! A good day's worth of driving fenceposts with uncle Charlie made for a great appetite and a good nite's sleep! Hows that for a bit of homespun fence building lore ? (...plus, its all true!!....) leroy

All:__________ I aint interested in starting a "caliber war"; or a debate on "which handgun is best for you arguement"; but, there is no appreciable difference between a 380 and a snubby 38 special; and there is plenty of data out there to prove it. The 380 has been around a long time; just like the 38 special. I've got an old "Handloader" article from the late 70's with lots of data that basically shows that it is a draw muzzle energy wise between a 2 inch smith j frame (...i always have one around; i like 'em...) and a 380. They also list the "speer hot loads" for the 380 at 4.6 grains of unique and a 95 grain hollow point. The 38 special loads ran from 110 grain to 158 grain. Muzzle energies are basically the same. About 225 to 230 ft-lb. I suspect no one could really tell the difference in being shot with either one. The point is to have a gun when you need it; and to be competent to hit what you are shooting at. I keep a 380 in my pocket if i have my pants on. For the most part; no one knows that i have it in my pocket; that is the whole idea. The 380 is much easier to carry than anything else i own. I also keep a glock 33 (...or larger; we got 'em all; right up to 44 mag and 45 colt....) close by (...sometimes in the hip pocket or jacket pocket; all the time in the glove box; or nearer....). Now, in the interest of "full disclosure"; do i that "bigger is better" when (...God forbid...) you have to shoot something or someone? --- you bet i do... I also think that shot placement trumps everything else; but first you need something to shoot. If ya aint got it with you; you cant use it. Hope this gives a bit of a fresh perspective. leroy
