  1. That’s for someone that carries two (or more) guns. But if I thought I needed to carry two guns I would just stick the second one in the side panel of my ballistic vest.
  2. I wouldn’t expect to get any of our elected officials on the phone. However, it’s a good idea; let us know how it goes. <O:p</O:p I do think that to many people want to jump in on these internet polls/petitions that have absolutely no impact or results while underestimating the impact of writing a letter and mailing it to your legislators.
  3. Did I miss something? The story says the New York Post is where the suitcase full of money statement came from; but the Police Chief said it is not true. <O:p</O:p Apparently a Judge thought that shooting yourself with an unlicensed gun was PC for a search warrant to look for other unlicensed guns. <O:p</O:p
  4. In the early morning hours of December 23, 1972 our ship went to general quarters. A 6.2 earthquake had hit Managua, Nicaragua. We put 800 Marines on the beach, supplying medical assistance, food and water. We were landing helicopters on our flight deck non-stop with causalities for our Doctors to take care of. The death toll was 5000. It would have been much higher had it not been for the Navy and Marines. While many at home had heard about the quake; they didn’t know we were there. It would have been nice to spend Christmas at home but I am proud of what we did there. In 1973 a Canadian named Gordon Sinclair did a piece on his radio show called the “The Americans†and he mentioned it. Bryon Macgregor later put it to music. [ame] [/ame]
  5. Merry Christmas to all our troops. We pray for your safe return. http://shock.military.com/Shock/videos.do?displayContent=181436&page=2
  6. Perceptions. They wouldn’t have any more liability. But right now they don’t need to post signs. They aren’t getting anything out of this except a greater risk of having to defend their business in a civil suit. If we (HCP holders) and the legislators feel that a person should be able to carry into an establishment that serves alcohol (or any other kind of business) then give those businesses absolute immunity from having to defend themselves in a civil suit simply because the shooting occurred on their property.
  7. Okay, I called the Illinois State Police District 10 Office at Pesotum, Illinois. The non-emergency number is 217-265-0050 in case anyone wants it. I didn’t get to have a long discussion because he said they are in the middle of an ice storm. But did tell me I can bring my guns there, and ran down the procedures. I also have had PM conversations with a retired ISP Trooper from the area I am going to. It does not appear than the laws have changed any. You can transport your firearms through Illinois or even have Illinois as your destination. References to FOID cards or laws do not apply to out of state residents. Firearms must be… Unloaded In a case Not immediately accessible or broken down in a non-functioning state. The Criminal Code refers to "a case, firearm carrying box, shipping box, or other container." However, the Wildlife Code is more specific, defining case as "a container specifically designed for the purpose of housing a gun or bow and arrow device which completely encloses such gun or bow and arrow device by being zipped, snapped, buckled, tied, or otherwise fastened with no portion of the gun or bow and arrow device exposed." There are municipalities that have firearm laws more restrictive than the state laws. They are listed on this page http://www.isp.state.il.us/foid/ordinances.cfm
  8. It doesn’t matter where a weapon (or anything for that matter) comes from barrel life is determined by metallurgy, heat treat, finish, fit and tolerances. Or in short; quality. We have the same thing today. We can get tool steel that will machine flawlessly part after part, or we can cut corners and get junk that can’t make it through the machining process or fails in use. I have worked on stamping dies made in China that cost more to repair and make right than having them made by a quality shop in the first place.
  9. It appears that POST is in addition to being full time.
  10. The state has the right to ban carry anywhere they like; the SCOTUS just made that clear. The Feds are just removing their bans.
  11. Because they are off limits by statute. They need not take any action or make sure their postings comply with the law. I have seen you make the argument to walk right past those posted signs. There aren’t many people making an argument to ignore the guns/alcohol laws. Also… it’s not about liability; it’s about a payday. Businesses are the deep pockets in a lawsuit. Some attorneys are going to go after the business because they know that is where the money is. They can get a judgment against you, but that doesn’t do them any good if you don’t have any money. It’s the same thing I have said about businesses posting signs… Remove the ability to sue the business. It costs a lot to defend yourself in a lawsuit even if you are successful. Business owners should not have to shoulder that cost simply because their business was where the shooting occurred. But I doubt that will happen when many of our legislators are attorneys are they won’t want to give up any possible sources of payment.

    Colt Talo

No safe queens here. I would take that sucker right out and shoot it. It looks great. And from what I'm seeing on the net the price isn't unreasonable.
  14. And there aren’t any line workers making $90 an hour or pushing a broom for $75 an hour either; but in case you haven’t noticed facts are not going to matter in any of these threads.
  15. Thanks. It’s really nice to shoot too. S&W Forum. A guy had a bunch of brand new take offs from 586’s and was selling them. The 617 is a K-frame so any Round Butt K or L frame grips will fit it.
  16. Anyone used this or know anything about it. It appears to be an exclusive for Bass Pro. I picked up a box because I thought it was marked $21. But when I got to the check-out it was $27 something. Still not to bad if it’s SXT? I haven't shot any yet.
  17. I recently bought a S&W 617 because I wanted a .22 for more trigger time. I wanted something that was a full size, full weight gun. It’s not cheap but I got an excellent deal on it from Daniel at Guns & Leather. When I was trying to find something used I saw prices higher than what I paid for new; so if I decide to trade it off I can get what I have in it.

    Shipping a handgun

You can mark them anything you like, most gun manufacturers tell you not to put anything about a firearm on the package. However, you are required to notify a shipper you are shipping a firearm; that is Federal law.
  19. Oh, I’m not talking about them doing it from there; I’m talking about bringing them here. I mean if it brings down product cost a few American workers losing their jobs is just the cost of good business… right? Again… we are going to bring them here; they will work for less. Good grief. You want the government involved in protectionism? So even though this problem is on the people; you want to lay it at the feet of the government and ask them to fix it?
  20. I wasn’t trying to say that a guy putting on wheels is a skilled trade job. But for example, we can get rid of all the high paid IT jobs by hiring people from India. They will work for a fraction of the wage that an IT guy here wants. Should we do that? I mean it lowers the cost of a product and after all that is more important right? How about Doctors? Walked around the medical centers lately? Doctors from all over the world are willing to come here. Medical costs are through the roof. Shouldn’t we maybe look at outsourcing that and get rid of some of these doctors that spent all that money to go though medical school and specialized training? Heading for surgery and knowing you are getting cut on by the low bidder shouldn’t bother anyone.
  21. When I was a cop in Illinois there was a provision for a non-resident to transport a handgun. (Locked, trunk, all that) But that was a long time ago. I don’t see any provision for it on the Illinois State Police Website. (Other than hunting) http://www.isp.state.il.us/foid/firearmsfaq.cfm Or you can click on the "How to transport your gun legally" link on this page... http://www.isp.state.il.us/foid/firearms.cfm And read through what appears to be the entire unlawful use of weapons section of the criminal code. I will try to call ISP tomorrow and find out. Because I’m going to Illinois and was planning on taking several guns. Oh yeah, and I wouldn’t transport a bean shooter into or through the Chicago area. But you won’t be up there anyway.
  22. Then it’s a department policy for Metro PD; not a state law? And their department wants them to carry a .40 cal (Big as a freakin brick) Sig? I’m almost afraid to ask (because I think if this is true I know the answer ) but what is the logic behind this?
  23. Also I have a question for those in the automotive industry. I have seen it stated here on more than one occasion that Japanese automobile companies in the U.S. don’t have unions. Is that true; no Japanese car plants in this country are union?
