  1. Although not a popular opinion on this forum; that is solid common sense and is the reason I don’t think we will see legislation allowing it. As has been pointed out there is not a distinction between a restaurant and a bar. Also you are going to see that some who claim to speak for HCP holders think they should be able to have a glass of wine or a beer with dinner. I don’t agree with that and would not support legislation that allowed it. It’s bad enough that should we find ourselves in a shooting situation we have a very big concern with other HCP holders without having to worry about an HCP holder whose judgment and thought process is clouded by alcohol. I doubt any of the cops you are worried about are drinking while in uniform. It doesn’t appear to be a problem. We have a legal system; not a justice system. I had to enforce laws that I did not think were fair. I feel safer in a restaurant that serves alcohol than in a courthouse. But I don’t expect to get to carry there anytime soon. What other states do is really not important. But if we are going to pick a state to model ourselves after; let’s pick Alaska.
  2. I think everyone should be able to be armed all the time; wherever they go… no permit required. Unfortunately the Tennessee legislature does not agree. I just don’t see how taking the stand of …â€If I can’t do it they shouldn’t get to do it.†is a productive response to the problem. A cop is a cop; 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Unless he drinking or intoxicated he should be armed. Whether he is in uniform or street clothes he may be needed to react (in my previous state he could be required to act); that may be hard to do if he is unarmed. So how about we quit worrying what the cops can or can’t do and try to get something done about what we can do. I’ve seen you make that statement before. Do you have access to case law? Because I would like to have it.
  3. No one has to stand by and watch while they see what they believe is a crime being committed; especially by cops. As I have said before if you think a cop is doing something wrong you always have recourse. If this bothers you, the next time you see it call the non-emergency number for the PD. Ask to talk to a Command Officer and tell them you want to make a complaint. They will either explain the law to you over the phone or they will come out and meet with you. If you do not like their explanation you can call or go to your local DA and ask them to explain the law to you. I doubt the AG will be issuing an opinion on this unless local DA’s indicate they do not understand the law. But maybe they already have; have you checked? No, you are not an average citizen. The average citizen can’t carry a loaded firearm at all. You are arguing that another special group has more privileges than your special group. Making a bunch of noise about being an average citizen doesn’t change that. Do you have a carry permit?
  4. Good grief. Eating is “Official Businessâ€; they are on duty and eating is part of their routine. They have nothing to do with whether we get this legislation or not. They are different and just like HCP holders they are a “special groupâ€. Those not in a “special group†would be the overwhelming majority of Tennessee residents that can’t carry a firearm anywhere outside their home. There are “special groups†and there will always be.
  5. Absolutely not. Tennessee law gives you recourse, not protection. You may get a judgment for your attorney’s fees and associated costs. A judgment against a dirtbag and fifty cents might get you a cup of coffee.
  6. It’s governed by Federal law. You can own full auto weapons if you pay the Feds and file all the proper paper work. Transfer of or modifying a weapon to make it fully auto without the Feds stamp of approval will land you in prison. Help me out, I tried to verify that and I can’t. Google returns only one link (to a newspaper in Northern Illinois) and I can’t find it on that site. I’m sure he would like to outlaw many types of guns; and I’m sure he and Presidents that follow will try. He was pretty clear on that and the American people elected him anyway. He ran on a ticket of CHANGE…. Things are going to change.
  7. I don’t see alcohol and firearms ever getting the nod. But then I laughed out loud when I first heard that Hillary was running for the Senate and again when Obama ran for president; so obviously I can be wrong.
  8. From what I can tell that meeting is just a meet & greet with updates and an opportunity to ask questions to the ATF. I don’t know if I will go, but I think it would be interesting. What do you not understand on the renewal? I would think they just want you to fill it out and send it back. But I haven't renewed mine yet so I don't know what they send.
  9. Welcome A few of us from here (Murfreesboro) go to Terry Walden’s range in Manchester. It’s an unsupervised range with separate rifle and handgun ranges, 300-meter rifle range, and $5 for all day.
  10. I am not saying that these are the good guys, or that they ask for our help with clean hands; they don’t. But saying that they need to fail and holding up Japanese companies as being something good for any of us (except the Japanese) is ignorance beyond belief. And I don’t care if you are a brain surgeon or ditch digger; the fall of our automotive companies will negatively impact you and your family.
  11. I didn’t want to see a bailout unless they had plans that would put American workers back to work and stop moving plants to Canada and Mexico. The reason for needing this bailout was not to keep the big three is business, but to help maintain our economy, the middle class, and our lifestyle in this country. What does surprise me are the simpletons that are glad to see Americans companies folding, think that its as simple as making the best product for the lowest cost, think this is all the unions fault, or think Japanese companies don’t have unions. A patriot defends his country…. Period. Those of you that think this is somehow a “good thing†or that this is all about defeating unions should be ashamed. Hopefully there are enough Patriots left in this country to get us through this. But I’m not sure there are enough of us left anymore to carry all those more than willing to sell out their fellow countrymen. This isn’t about GM or Ford; this is about the survival of American manufacturing. I am not in a union, I do not work in the automotive industry; I just see this as a terrible thing because I am an American.

    Young Gun Owners

It is my understanding that there is no difference between an 18 year old and a 21 year old except in two areas. 1. They can’t get an HCP until 21 2. Because of federal law FFL’s can’t sell them a handgun; but Tennessee law does not have a restriction on private party sales and they can buy from a private party (if they are over 18). Is this not correct?
  13. Guns should not be made from Aluminum, Scandium or unknownium. However they can be made from an alloy… if that alloy is stainless steel. Stick with steel or stainless.
  14. Okay... I'll bite; I gotta hear this..... How will they be different?
  15. You can go anywhere. A friend of mine went to Fayetteville because they send you from the DMV across the street to the SO for prints. One stop shopping.
  16. Stay on topic!! This discussion is for Cops, Cop Haters, those that can’t get near a cop car without getting a beat down, and those that get removed from their car at gun point every time they get stopped. If you are going to start a debate between Hickabillies and Northern Aggressors; you need to start a new thread.
  17. I’ll address Customer Service. I have owned Smith & Wesson handguns for over thirty years; easily over a hundred of them. I have only had to send one back to the factory. I have called them about problems or just to discuss concerns about my guns many times. When I heard things like “The lever on the M&P is a Slide lock not a slide release.†Or “Smith & Wesson told me you can’t hurt their handguns dry firing them.†I would call them to get the straight scoop. We have sat and discussed issues in detail and they could not have been any more helpful. When I get into discussions with friends and co-workers about customer service; I always bring up Smith & Wesson. They are the way things should be. You won’t see any gun manufacturer have anywhere near the positive comments that Smith & Wesson has. Some parts they won’t sell you because they have to be fitted by a gun smith. I know that side cover plates for revolvers are this way. I recently needed a trigger group for a Mossberg rifle; Mossberg wouldn’t sell it to me. I assume it’s a liability issue. However… we don’t know why they wouldn’t sell you a part because you didn’t offer any explanation. Almost all my handguns are Smith & Wesson. Quality is a big concern for me, but so is the fact that they are made in America by Americans and should I need customer service I am sure they will do all they can to help.
  18. At the Nashville Fairgrounds. I thought I might go today. Is it still “You better buy now at our inflated friggin prices because Obama is going to stop gun sales in January!" ? Or are things getting back to normal? How was the selection?
  19. I got my HCP mainly so I could keep a gun in the car; but I don’t feel the need to carry everywhere I go. I refuse to live in fear and feel sorry for those that do. If someone should shoot me; so be it. The gun is there in case God needs it. I truly believe that when that woman security guard left cover and walked into the open at the gunman that was shooting at that church, and shot him dead; that was Gods hand.
  20. Please take a minute to remember and say a prayer.
  21. Those are a nice size. I have been trying to find a 4013 but no luck yet.
  22. You would be more than welcome to shoot anything I have; but I don’t have them anymore. You can get with Tungsten, but you better hurry he changes guns almost as a often as I do.
  23. If they can’t see it I wouldn’t tell them unless I thought the conversation may get me out of a ticket. And that is a very real possibility and I think that’s why most people want to tell them. On the other hand… if it is where they (or their partner coming up the other side of the car) can see it I’m letting them know real fast that I’m armed.
