  1. If I wanted an AR to do double duty as a general defense rifle and hunting rifle up to deer, I would look at a 16” gun in 6.5 Grendel. Ammo isn’t widespread but is available and is in line with the cost of many other AR calibers. It could be handy enough for defensive work but you could stretch it to 300 yards for hunting. I’m not sure why alphabet agencies would show up at your door.
  2. 63 is plenty young to do it. I did it at 51 on the right side and it went great. Now I’m 53 and so far so good on the left, but it’s still early. My dr. said his average victim is 60. If you saw how I tore my left one back in December, you’d definitely laugh at me.
  3. I think he meant he was NOT taught that.
  4. Nope I shoot left handed and just had rotator cuff surgery on my left shoulder BUT I would win that bet shooting weak hand only. papa61, bring your car title. I’ll even give you a ride home.
  5. I wasn’t talking about your gun’s weight. I was talking about your six hits being quicker than my three hits. If we were closer, we could have a friendly wager and you could eat those words with ranch dressing.
  6. Mmmmmm I doubt that.
  7. That could be a valid question, but I’ve never carried a .45 sized 9mm. If I did, I would argue that the dropoff between .45 and 9mm effectiveness is negligible, but the dropoff between 9mm and .380 is significant. Capacity could be another reason. .45 and 9mm (and many other handgun calibers) suck for manstopping, but they suck less than .380 and are no harder for me to carry. The big benefit of handguns is that they are convenient to carry in case there is unexpected trouble. If I knew I couldn’t avoid trouble, I would have my M&P 10 instead of a handgun.
  8. Hopefully karma catches up to those fellows. I feel like pocket carry is a compromise, but sometimes I resort to a pocket 9mm or .38 while doing yard work. You are definitely vulnerable while running a mower or weed eater, especially if wearing earpro or listening to music or podcasts. No .380 for me though - like somebody above pointed out, it makes no sense to carry a 9mm sized .380, unless controlling the gun is an issue.
  9. Definitely not a .40 shill, but I always found it to be manageable with 180 bullets. It sucked with 155s. If I learned anything from covid, it was that it’s not a terrible idea to have a .40 sitting around. The theory that “during SHTF you want 9mm and 5.56 because ammo” was certified BS by April 2020, but .40 was on shelves for several months before it also disappeared.
  10. I think right now, there will be no NFA tax, only sales tax. But I will be surprised if that is the case when this is finished.
  11. I mean, Memphis is 20 miles away. Gotta be prepared.
  12. Ha, I’m just the guy to ask about rotator cuffs - this is my second one. I had surgery on my right one two years ago. It was screwed up for 25+ years and just got worse and worse until I couldn’t sleep. I think it all started when I tried to gun a guy down at third base from right field without hitting the cutoff man one time too many (I was young, dumb, and well you know the rest). Torn labrum (SLAP), torn subscapularis tendon, and ruptured bicep tendon. Dr. Brolin at Campbell Clinic reattached the subscap, repaired my labrum, cut off the top 2” of my bicep tendon and reattached it at the top of my humerus (aka bicep tenodesis). I read and was told therapy/recovery would be agony, but it was a piece of cake (4-5 months worth). I was a PT nazi though. Now I can throw a football 30 yards and (until recently, see below) do pullups. My only regret is waiting as long as I did. Fast forward to last December. Long story short I pulled a total dipsh!t move and tore my left subscapularis tendon and mildly damaged my supraspinatus tendon. Labrum was ok but bicep tendon was iffy. Same doctor reattached the subscap and did another bicep tenodesis. He also cleaned up some arthritis I didn’t even know I had (left side has always been drama free). That was nine weeks ago. This one has been a little more painful, but I am making steady progress. Will be probably August before I can really shoot anything. The doctor fixes you, but the physical therapist heals you. If you are active and want to get back to being active after a repair, you MUST do the therapy religiously. Epic threadjack over. My apologies to the OP - I also have a new shotgun I want to shoot and I feel your pain (literally).
  13. We have to mow our grass with a Mossberg 590 on a 2 point sling around our neck in my neighborhood
  14. Congrats! I am recovering from a rotator cuff rebuild and found a steal on a shotgun I have wanted for a while, but it will be some time before I take her for a spin.
  15. It appears that the HPA was originally introduced on 10-22-2015 and included a $200 refund for NFA taxes paid after that date. That could get interesting. https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/3799 https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/new-legislation-introduced-to-remove-silencers-from-nfa-provide-clarity-on-armor-piercing-bullets/
  16. I am slow tonight. What is the significance of October 22, 2015?
  17. I may be wrong, but I think I read that. Hell the HPA business changes every day.
  18. But I think a 4473 will still be a requirement.
  19. I'm not sure I agree. Sales will definitely go nuts. Maybe inventory is stacked deep, but I fear prices may also go nuts if manufacturing doesn't increase to meet the new demand.
  20. Dr. Kevorkian bath tub toy?
  21. Makes sense. I just carry too much stuff in my pockets before I even think about a gun to wear gym shorts when I’m out and about, so there’s no point in compromising my carry gun.
