That's terrible. But hilarious

We have a neighbor who has a Christmas cactus lit up in their front window all year

I got what you said - cost is a benefit, but I also added about Glock magazine reliability vs 2011 mags - another possible benefit. This is well known in the competitive world. In fact, Glock is probably the only gun/mag that would run after dumping a handfull of dust down the mag tube. A 2011 (and a lot of others) would choke. From my experience (and lots of other 2011 shooters), 2011 magazines don’t like dust.
-
Glock mags are cheaper, but also are more reliable. Drop a 2011 mag on the dusty ground and you better take it apart and at least scrub inside for a few seconds with a mag brush. Most people won't drop their mags on the ground, but in the competitive world, where the Platypus will see plenty of action, it happens all the time.

I think you two should attend a Philadelphia Eagles game.

Memphis gun referendum is too long.
deerslayer replied to Grayfox54's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
If it's like a lot of other Memphis elections, it will pass 70-30 with 3% of the population actually voting. -

The model 45 is a 9mm, the 44 is a .22, the 22 is a .40, and the 40 is a 10mm. What’s the issue?

RIP Ginger - sounds like she was a good one. I’m afraid our Pomeranian is rounding third and may join Ginger soon.

Question : Would you buy locally made Ammo?
deerslayer replied to DraxTheDad's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I had Zeroed Ammunition in mind after reading the first post. A friend shoots a lot of their ammo in USPSA matches. They make good stuff. If I got sick of reloading, I would use their ammo. -
Why not more open carry?
deerslayer replied to billyblazes's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Most of the folks currently OCing in public around here are a horrible representative of gunowners. Pretty much every OCer I see in the store has a scowl on their face, a $3 holster, and no idea that someone is standing two feet behind them. They almost have “I’m OCing just cause and you can kiss my ass” written on their forehead. I think my wife could disarm most of them. -
No lecturing here, but be careful shooting steel that close. Be sure to wear eye protection.

Case lube?Hornady,Dillion, or Frankford Arsenal?
deerslayer replied to jeff43's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
For rifle cases, I use Dillon or Frankford spray lube on an RCBS pad. For pistol ammo on the 550 (with carbide dies), I spray inside the sizing die with Liquid Wrench dry lube every 100 or so rounds. -
The Orange is a semi-custom shopish version of the Blue, which is now the standard Shadow 2, I believe. The Orange has a barrel bushing installed, the slide and frame are hand-fitted, and the trigger is allegedly better. The trigger does have the parts that provide a short reset, which is a modification that competitive shooters and their gunsmiths often do. I have an Orange and the slide to frame fit is excellent, but the trigger needs some work (I am a competitive shooter and gradually became a trigger snob). I don't shoot it much and need to sell it. The Orange is DA/SA and has a rear sight that is adjustable for elevation. The Shadow 2 dominates USPSA Production and Carry Optics divisions, which require a striker fired or a DA gun. It was made for Production division, and Carry Optics is based on Production. If CZ wanted to sell guns to USPSA shooters, they hit a grand slam with the Shadow 2.

Lots of wisdom in that article. I shake my head every time I see such a "carry rotation." The only guy who could pull it off is Ben Stoeger.

for-sale Norinco AK-47...Final price drop 1200.00
deerslayer replied to leafinthewind's topic in Firearms Classifieds
The Chicoms are dirtbags, but they build a fine Kalashnikov. I regret selling my MAK90 decades ago. GLWS -
I forgot that my uncle had three guns stolen 20 or so years ago. A decade later, he got a call from the police telling him one had been recovered. They gave it back to him no questions asked. This was the same department (Memphis PD) as the one I mentioned earlier. Different departments probably have different procedures and requirements, or maybe it’s just the whim or mood of whoever is in charge that day or that year. All I know is I want all available ammo to fight to get my gun back or clear my name if I ever have the need. A BOS may be weak, but it’s better than nothing.
-
Yes - a friend of a friend was denied his recovered gun when he couldn’t prove ownership. Another fellow provided the police with his original receipt after they implied that such a receipt would be the only way to assist his plight. Both cases were years ago and I don’t know if a BOS would have helped in either case, but the first guy would have appreciated the opportunity to try. I have never needed a BOS for any of the reasons I listed, but I have also never needed to file a life insurance claim. Hopefully, both trends continue.
-
I like them for three reasons - If I buy a gun that is later discovered to be stolen, I have a bill of sale. I’m not sure how much water it would hold with the cops, but it’s better than nothing. If a gun I bought is stolen from me and recovered, many jurisdictions want some sort of proof of ownership before they give it back. Again, I’m not sure how much water it would hold with the cops, but it’s better than nothing. If I sell a gun and the cops come to me and say it was used in a crime, I’ll pull out my bill of sale and say “Here’s where it went and when.” All I ever ask for is a permit flash and a current address with autograph (no DL numbers, etc). A simple handwritten bill of sale that I throw in the back of my safe is not the same paper trail as a 4473.

Must watch movie/television recommendations & interesting shows
deerslayer replied to Links2k's topic in General Chat
Not sure if anybody mentioned Shogun on Hulu I think? I finally finished it (takes me a long time to watch a show, much less a season). I thought it was well done. I read the book maybe 25 years ago and got it back out. I hear a season 2 is in the works. I hope so. -

While I don’t doubt there is some truth in what you say, assuming there are no “true believers” in power who would do the unthinkable if given the opportunity is risky and complacent. I bet the murder-the-babies people would agree.
