Ah, another one turns to the GLOCK side! I sure do love mine. If I wait a couple more years before I trade in for a new one, I think it's going to qualify as an antique. They are great guns. You won't be disappointed. TK47

My first shots were fired from my Daddy's Savage single shot bolt action saddle rifle in 22 short when I was about 6. A tiny little tack driver that had belonged to his Father. A model 1903? maybe? My brother has the gun now, and it will go to his son one day. I actually shot a fly off a paper plate target one day with it from about 15 yards. TK47

My first choice for 9mm is always Glock 19. But that really wasn't the question. I owned a Ruger P89 for a while and liked it very much. Accurate, reliable, rugged. Will probably buy another one of these days. I also owned one of the Bersas. It just didn't feel as good in my hand in some undefinable way. I have no experience with the other guns mentioned. Make sure whatever you get is the best for YOU. Once you get past reliable and accurate, everything else is just opinion. Good luck! TK47

Wow. Nice job! Good looking shotgun now. TK47 -
I attended this class yesterday, and had a great time. This was not a "Tactical" class, but concentrated on things useful to a civilian who is defending his home with a shotgun. Plenty of rounds downrange without completely destroying your shoulder, but some good discussion time as well. I found Bo Alexander's attitude about training very helpful. He doesn't claim to be the "Yoda" of shotgunning, nor to have invented the pump-gun, but presented a great deal of information and showed a wealth of knowledge about the subject matter. He introduced me to a new concept: The OODA (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) Loop, which I found very interesting. More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Boyd_(military_strategist)#The_OODA_Loop We did lots of shooting with various types and brands of shotgun ammo from Birdshot to Slugs, at different ranges, to see how each gun patterns at various distances with different ammo. Very educational. Some lesson learned: It's hard to unsafe a Mossberg with a pistol grip, Remingtons shed tactical lights after about 100 rounds, and always use locktite on your Sidesaddle screws. Last and probably most important, two layers of Drywall WILL NOT stop #4 Buckshot at 12 feet. Think about it. Great class Bo! Thanks. TK47

FEEL THE POWER OF THE DARK SIDE!!!!! I bought a used Glock 19 about 15 years ago. I still own it, shoot it regularly, carry it daily. I've put thousands of rounds through it and it has never failed me unless I failed it. In my opinion it's the best carry gun ever made. Congratulations! TK47

That's mighty Purty, and you just can't go wrong with a Walther. TK47

Thanks for the info guys. I'l definately check out your suggestions when I get down there. TK47

Sounds like I either need to stay in Middle TN, or move to Chattanooga and open a gunshop. TK47

I might be moving down that way in the not-to-distant future, so I guess I better ask. (putting on Flack Jacket and Steel Pot) Who's Ray Carter, and why is dealing with him a problem? TK47

That's quite possible, when the dealer sold them to me he said they were "High Point" mags, but I guess anyone could have manufactured them. "Pics?" I haven't quite figured out how to do that yet, but I'll try and get back to you. TK47

Aww man! What a great find! I have been looking for a Turk Mauser to go with my Spaniard, Yugo and, German. Can't find anything worth having for under $200. Congratulations! TK47

I have a Tapco Fusion stock on my Mini 14. I love it! I tried an ATI stocked Mini 14 at a gunshow and just didn't like the buttstock with the plastic "cheek rest" piece. It just felt flimsy to me. I also added a Holosight to mine. The combinatin works very well for me. I too have a Hi Point carbine with the ATI stock on it. Very comfortable, and makes the Ugly Duckling look a lot better. One caution: The long 15 rd. Hi Point Mags don't work out of the box with the new stock. You have to remove the plastic shield from the bottom so they will lock up correctly. TK47

Love that poster! I hope the OFF made to East Tennesee, cause it skipped my place entirely. The Skeeters in Eagleville were big and aggressive this weekend. TK47

I had a great "gun day" today. I finally made the pilgramage down to Winchester today and visited Hero Gear. Wow. A truely class act. If you're a fan of John Browning's 1911 pistol this is the place to go. More 1911s in one place than I have ever seen before. Some of them worth more than my car. (and no they wouldn't take my old beater in trade) Great selection of othe guns too, including some nicely priced used stock. Had a very nice converstaion with Dan there, who truely understands the value of good customer service. My only complaint is they don't issue Bibs at the door to keep you from drooling on the lovely firearms. I also got to stop in at The Outpost on the way home. They also have a very nice selection of cool guns. The folks there were very friendly and polite, and they had a great selection of bulk ammo. I wound up taking home some 8mm Mauser as well as a selection of a few other calibers. I even stopped by the Restaurant for a bite. The food was just fine and the service cordial. All in all, another fine gun shop. If you haven't had the opportunity to visit these two places I strongly suggest you make time. They are both well worth the trip. TK47

Good info guys! I have a MAK90 with a "Dragunaov" type stock, and finally got the lowdown from a BATF guy a few months ago. He agreed with the 922r info given above. TK47

I'm on my 2nd Mini-14. Overall I think they are a good little rifle. I know a lot of you rave about the AR15, but my experience with them has been mostly negative. I owned two AR15 clones that jammed constantly no matter how clean they were. Sold them both for more than I paid though, and that's always a plus. As to the Minis, I really like them. I solved many of the problems others have mentioned by putting an aftermarket front sight/muzzle break on mine. I also added a Tapco Fusion Stock and a Holo sight. I love it! It's as accurate as it needs to be, and feeds more reliably than my old ARs. Regarding aftermarket magazines, I have settled on the USA Mag 30 rd. Polymers. (Ruger factories are just to expensive) I have put a few hundred rounds through them and never had a feed problem. Be careful of the USA metal 30s though. I have had to reshape the feed lips and file on the bodies to get them some of them to feed or lock up. Have fun with your new Mini-14! TK47

Where in the heck is Viola? 'Fraid I missed the opportunity for March, but I'd love to do some shooting for April. TK47

I went to the show Saturday afternoon. The crowd was a little lighter than the last time but still pretty good sized. I got there to late to to pick up a box of .380 auto(dang!) but did manage to pick up a box of 9x18 for my Makarov. I finally broke down and bought one of the Hi Point 9mm carbines. Then I found the ATI stock for it, then the 15 round magazines... I had a heck of a time putting the new stock on. One of the screw holes just didn't want to match up, but that's why they invented the Dremel tool. Test fired a few off the back porch, and it all seemed to work right. Hopefully I'll get out to the range next weekend and sight it in. Other than that, not much new. A lot of the same vendors trying to sell the same overpriced stuff they had last show. TK47

Excellent post. I am very fortunate to have never had an accidental discharge. Not because I exhibit perfect gun handling skills, but because I have been very lucky. I have caught myself making dumb gun handling mistakes, as a matter of fact very recently. I have a great deal of sympaty for the shooter in question. "There but for the grace of God go I." TK47

I am fortunate to be still out there earning a decent wage. Still got my 401K match, and a much smaller bonus this year. My company has layed off a bunch of people, but my department seems sound for the moment. However, the wife was layed off in August of last year and has yet to find anything. It's going to get tougher if her unemployment runs out before she finds a new job, but all in all we're doing OK. I just hope things pick up soon and those of you who are not doing so well come out OK. TK47

I have an old MAK-90 Sporter that seems to have better fit and finish than the newer stuff coming in. Have to keep a thumbhole on it or change out some parts to comply with 922R though. Paid $250 for it new, many years ago. It's never malfunctioned in any way despite all my neglect and abuse over the years. TK47
