  1. Their tactics? Lemme help: Guns kill thousands of people a year. If there were fewer guns there would be fewer deaths. IN any case guns contribute to the culture of violence, which we are trying to stop. No one needs guns because we have police. There, doesnt that sound simple? Honestly that is what they say. And every incident involving a gun becomes grist for their mill.
  2. The liquor industry is the only one, to my knowledge, that went straight to metric. They loved it because they could sell basically the same sizes (half pint, pint [known as "ones and twos"], fifth, quart, half gallon) at the same price but put less in. Unless I'm at a gay bar I'm not ordering anything called a "dewtini." Sorry.
  3. Ya know, most of us responsible gun owners spend time (and money) trying to avoid bad situations. We don't go around looking for them. But you seem intent on pushing things. Given your responses here and elsewhere I really need to question your overall judgement, especially whether carrying a gun is an especially good idea.
  4. I can't drink tequila because I don't like the idea of drinking something distilled from sweaty gym socks.
  5. That might sound logical to you. Me, I'd be screaming and threatening to sue.

    XDM for $585!

Well, no. You still have to pay tax. It's called a "use tax" precisely to protect merchants here from out of state competition who weren't collecting the tax. I know enforcement is lack, to say the least, but it isn't a "tax free" sale.
  7. Sorry this isn't turning out like you intended when you first posted. In fact I couldn't care less about a sale that will net me $2.50 in gross profit. I have turned down sales that would have produced far more when it became apparent it was a straw purchase. A lot of the OP was to point out how easy it is for people to evade gun laws and how criminals, being stupid, end up foiled by them anyway. The customer could easily have purchased his ammo just by keeping his mouth shut. When he starts blabbing about his felony, he clearly has no idea of the implications of what he is saying. If you think you are doing some gun-community service by bashing the thread and/or my business practices, you are sorely mistaken.
  8. I am sure that wasn't meant to come across as ignorant or belittling. In fact, a very large number of LE and military cannot pull the trigger, even though there is clear reason to. Somewhere around the 'net is a video of a state trooper confronting a guy with an M1 carbine in a drunk traffic stop. The troop repeatedly orders the guy back into the car. He has time to assess and time to fire and he cannot bring himself to pull the trigger. He ends up dead. I agree with the posters here who say they do not know how they would react. I don't either. I also dont think any amount of training can really prepare you. Philosophically I have zero problem with pulling the trigger. In a crisis moment I dont know. I hope never to find out.
  9. No. The shirt is free of gravy stains and he's wearing a tie. His finger isnt on the trigger so much as he is poised to noiselessly click off the safety.
  10. That's true. I would have sold them to him. I have probably sold more ammo to convicted felons than anyone else on this board, except for Glockmeister (only because he's been in business way longer). This is because we aren't required to background check people for ammo. So unless he volunteers that info I don't know. It is the same with people 18-21 buying ammo for handguns. If they tell me it is for a long gun, I can sell it. If they tell me it is for a handgun I can't. It wouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what the "right" answer here is. Virtually everyone knows this, it is hardly a secret. The various schemes to prevent it have been tried (ammo register, FOID card). None of them has been proven effective, all have been failures and imposed costs and hassle on consumers. And I agree with NSNate's comment.
  11. Agreed. If he gets elected (g-d forbid) we'll have a field day in jokes. Column this AM in the WSK points out he is the gaffe candidate, a fact not picked up on by the news media. If McCain had said that stuff they would be all over him.
  12. Notice the gun chosen to typify "thug." The AR-15 is the weapon of the free world. The AK is the weapon of thugs. Sounds about right to me.
  13. Had to share this one. So someone is selling Obama T-shirts in E.Nashville (imagine that). Obviously my views on the candidate are well known. Here is our exchange. My response:
  14. Nor could you do anything about it. More to the point. In Obama's case he doesnt want to be associated with people muttering stupid stuff because then, in his campaign's mind, he is sharing those opinions. A stronger candidate could say "I disavow those ideas but defend his right to utter them." Of course that won't fly in the PC atmosphere of the Democratic Party where every offensive opinion must be silenced.

    first 9mm

I think they're on to the P8 now. That would be a Hitler-Koch sk2000 or whatever the designation is. The opening on the hammer cannot possibly open a beer bottle, nor would you want to use your pistol for that. I was told it is to tell whether the gun has been dropped or not.
  16. You're right. It is a sign of how poorly his campaign is being managed and what a weak inexperienced candidate he is.
  17. Freedom of speech doesn't mean you are free of the social consequences of what you say. If I go around saying gun owners are the cause of myriad social ills and are all racists and anti-semites,that ought to be protected. But I shouldnt be surprised if my business rolls over and dies and old friends shun me. As for Obama, if we can get him to apologize and back pedal for every stupid thing any supporter of his has said we can really put the crimp on his campaign. He'd be doing nothing else.
  18. But unfortunately John Wayne can't run.
  19. Old Charter the whiskey that stopped watching the clock, was their slogan in the early 1960s. It's pretty good, a lower priced brand for sure. I think they make a bonded which is good.
  20. Don't know but I think I shoot faster/more accurately. Also my "competition" is a 74yr old man. He often whups me of course because he started shooting the year I was born. Urse, "reel gun"="wheel gun".
  21. All vodkas taste like something. I think it's unavoidable. Unless you want to start drinking PGA. Clan MacGregor (renamed Klan MacGregor in Mike's honor) is fine for its intended purpose: mixed drinks. Mike, I gather you are in this business. What is your impression of Brown-Forman and esp their purchase of Casa Heradura? Urse, I regularly buy and drink real bottom shelf bourbons. Of course I drink about a bottle of the stuff a week so it doesn't matter what I get and I dont want to spend the extra money.
  22. Remember I was using a 3" gun I've shot twice before then. I'm joshing of course. I'll probably return with a reel gun next time.
  23. $259??? WTF??? Last one I bought was like $50 and I thought that was outrageous. You need to stop by my house and sample some.
  24. Mix it with ginger ale and you wont notice a thing.
