  1. Then its not really an HD shotgun. Its a hobby gun doing double duty. If you shoot it that much then obviously having a newer/nicer shotgun would mean a lot to you. My 870 Marine Magnum probably gets shot 10 times a year. It's perfectly adequate for all the shotgunning that I do (next to none) and for HD. I keep thinking how nice a good OU would be. Then I remind myself "when are you gonna shoot it, genius?" Just not enough to justify getting something else, for me anyway.
  2. He apologized just ahead of a censure vote. It was decent of him, but barely so. I'd like to see him go to the White House and personally apologize to the man he insulted.
  3. Since an HD shotgun gets fired about once or twice a year I dont see any reason to replace it. Save the money and go buy a revolver.
  4. That might win this year's award for "most useless gun." Maybe we need a thread on it.
  5. What kind of cake do you like?
  6. I thought about a 1911, like a Kimber. Then I remembered I dont like 1911s and I've seen way too many Kimbers have issues I wouldn't expect from an $800 gun. SO it'll be something odd but trustworthy. Maybe a Webley .455. Maybe a Smith .41 Mag. I need another gun like a hole in the head of course.....
  7. And G-d help those who can't.
  8. I was 4 at the time. But I remember the war. I did know a guy who was a photographer who came in when the US re-took Hue after Tet. It was apparently a pretty memorable time.
  9. I am putting together a deluxe carry package to offer the public (to be advertised here later in the week), of a Smith 386Sc, holster, speedloader, and box of Winchester Silvertips. The guy supplying the holster writes to me as follows (unsolicited, in best gun guy fashion): Now, I could understand that in regard to the white box stuff. Last time I bought some .38s I had failure to fires and they were dirty as Democrats. But is that the case with their premium self-defense line, the silvertips? I bought some 9mm some time ago and really liked it: very hard hitting and fed well. I welcome people's experiences with the premium stuff. [btw and fwiw, I decided on the Silvertips even though I normally carry Speer GD and carry that myself because you rarely see silvertips in stores. At least I do. And the ballistics on the STs look pretty good]
  10. You might be right. I never read Mommy Dearest so going on memories from book reviews. But she sure looks the part of dysfunctional irrational raging in those pics. Apparently she is like that in real life too.
  11. "I've told you a million times: wood, not wire!"
  12. Probably $325 out the door for the basic model. Ballpark.
  13. No, see, there's a correlation. More guns=more crime. Therefore fewer guns=less crime. Wouldn't you want fewer guns and less crime? Simple, isn't it? I am not kidding that people actually think this. It is the whole basis for gun control. But fortunately the Dems have bigger fish to fry than gun control. I'd be more worried about HillaryCare and the wreck that will make of this economy.
  14. I should have mentioned the Browning Buckmark, the first gun I ever bought. It was right in there with the Ruger I guess. Mine has had some maintenance/repair issues over the years.
  15. FWIW, the man is James Brady, not John Brady. I am with Len here (surprise surprise). The Dems have many other things on their plates besides gun control, which has been a loser of an issue for them. It is somewhere way down on someone's agenda. Many of the Dems elected this last go around are staunchly pro-gun (Harry Reid has an A rating from the NRA) so it would be a contentious issue. I would expect to see HillaryCare in some guise proposed within 30 days and much of Congress' time spent on that. But I will say I am going to stock up on AR receivers and other goodies because the day after Hillary is nominated my shop will be filled with people trying to "beat the ban."
  16. Purses by their nature attract unwanted attention. But I agree it is better than not having. The belly bands seem to work OK. I might look into some of the underwear with holsters in them as well.
  17. The typical gun shops and big box places will. The market for .22 target pistols falls into 3 categories: cheap, mid-range, and high dollar. In the cheap range is the Phoenix with 5" barrel (I have one in the shop). It is an OK gun. Filled with a million safeties that make it a puzzle piece it has a decent SA trigger. Probably well under $200 out the door. In the mid range the most popular is the Ruger Mk III or whatever it is they are selling currently. The only drawback I can see to the gun is that takedown is ridiculously hard (I've never done it). Other than that it is an excellent choice with a good balance of accuracy, trigger, and economy. After that is maybe the Beretta Neos (weird looking imo). Smith also makes one that I just dont have much experience with. Walther P22 well down from there. It looks kewl and tactical but no one I know has raved over its accuracy or reliability. Walther has a new gun coming out that I've seen on the wholesalers' websites but have never seen one. In the high end you are talking the high end Walther (I dont remember the model) and the Hammerli. But these are $1k+ guns and unless someone is really serious about competitive target shooting it probably isn't worth it.
  18. Good. So they can prove that temperatures vary over centuries. That is a far cry from anthropogenic global warming or proving that it is even harmful. Sounds like a natural progression to me. Certainly nothing to award a Nobel Prize over. Except for Gore's being perceived as an enemy of an unpopular administration.
  19. There was a story about an LA country sherrif who did just that. I use it to illustrate the principle that bad habits will kill you. In this case, he kept his finger inside the trigger well while holstering the gun in an IWB. Ouch. He shot himself in the butt twice btw. Moral of the story: Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. Big duh, I know but amazing how many people dont. And then they want to blame Glock. Anyway, I've shot the M&P40c. It was a very nice gun. The trigger reset is very well-defined making it a pleasure to shoot. It actually feels better on the range than dry-firing it. The 642 is a tough gun to shoot well over long distances. Which is fine, because it wasnt designed to do that. But at close distances it works great and of course the ease of carry and reliability figure into it.
  20. I think it depends on the county.
  21. And the downside to that is when the DA asserts, what were you doing with all that ammo, which is more than an LE carries? You were looking for a fight! But since you chances of actually being in a gun fight are extremely low it won't be an issue.
  22. That's why you're my hero.
  23. As mentioned I carry a BUG. But citing anecdotal evidence like that in support of a position is just poor argument because you could apply it to anything with hilarious results. Do you carry 4 spare tires? I know someone who had 4 flats. I'd sure hate to be on the side of the road in the South Bronx thinking "damn, I wish I had loaded that 4th spare." Of course since I havent been to the South Bronx in over 15 years and have no intention of going it likely isn't something to worry about. I have limited time and resources. Since I am more likely to die of heart attack or stroke I'd rather take some time to exercise than practice draw strokes. It's a gun board mentality.
  24. This is why state lotteries always do so well.....
  25. I thought I was the only one who did that. I often will just put my left hand on the 642 (I also carry one) inside the pocket if I sense some potential threat. If I need to shoot through the pocket I can do so (yet another advantage to the semi-detached rotating cylinder magazine). Another consideration is that my wife, who has a permit, never carries so if we' re somewhere and she might need a gun as well I have a spare to give her.
