They would still have the various state constitutions to deal with. And merely repealing the 2A itself would not mean a total ban, although it would certainly be a big step in that direction. But I don't see it happening purely on political grounds: politicians want to get re-elected. The gun issue is of interest only to a small number of people. The pro-gun side, which turns out to vote, is rabid about it (look what happened to Jim Zumbo) while the anti side is much smaller and generally pretty tepid. It is a losing issue for them. They will get many more votes and have better ability to pass legislation by addressing, e.g. healthcare instead.

At one point in the last election Howard Dean looked unstoppable. So we can't tell now who will surprise. Maybe Richardson will make a surprise showing and become a front runner. I dunno. Fortunately our guns are not dependent on who occupies the White House. No president can ban guns outright. They can try to pass laws to make things difficult but that's it. If Hillary is nominated I do look forward to land-office sales of EBRs and such...

I am sure in 1936 it made some kind of sense. Think of what handguns were available: .45LC, 1911 in .45acp, .357mag, .38spc, .38Super, and all the little .38s, .32s and .25s. There was no big handgun caliber like .44mag, .480 Ruger etc. Nor was there a platform like a Thompson Center handgun, shooting rifle bullets. So a really powerful, concealable weapon was a sawed off rifle. Today of course a sawed off rifle is a joke.

Because a chain saw is a tool. A switch blade is a killing instrument. Make sense now?

Two words: P239 (w/ optional 10 rd mag), P225. And yeah. I think 8 rounds are plenty for anyone. But that's coming from a guy who carries "six for sure."

Nice gun and all. I just never saw the appeal of the H&K. I had a USP9 through the shop and took it out and shot it. It was OK. Single action was pretty crisp. Accuracy was good. But that's all it was, OK. And it's a plastic gun. I guess I'm just a SIGsnob when it comes to auto-loaders.

We sure are. Just go ahead and post your opinion of open carry and see how warm we are. Welcome to the site. And patronize the advertisers....

I would tend to agree. If the barrel was somehow made permanently 16" you'd be on better grounds. Fixing a butt stock to a pistol is bad ju-ju. The whole thing of course is stupid. Why should a 16" barrel be OK but a 15" barrel not OK? The Feds would be doing everyone a favor by removing SBRs from the NFA.

Agreed. The last senator to be elected president was some guy named Kennedy.

Fred has already repudiated his vote on McCain Feingold. But I am sure the libs will bring that one up again and again.

Yes, it is very clever. And that is my impression of Fred, that he is a very smart man. The caricature of him (as I heard today at kiddush) is that he is a lazy fool. That is the caricature you will see played up in the media. It's OK. They said that about Reagan too. He also played off it, saying "hard work never killed anyone but I'm not taking any chances." Sorry that Len feels like that isn't cricket. But politics is a game played for keeps.

They are more than ready to elect one. I'd vote for one. Not Hillary of course but the leftists want to prove how advanced they are. Don't discount Hillary. Bush got elected because he spent years prior to the election building grass roots organizations and funding avenues. Hillary has done the same thing. By the time Clinton left the White House the Democratic Party was a subsidiary of the Clintons, with their guys in key positions. She has the rolodex, she has the fundraising capability. She has the will and the ability to make herself sound credible on any issue. No, Hillary is very very scary.

No, he means 7.62x51 a/k/a .308. I don't know how the platform will handle that calibre. The Armalites sure look neat though.

If you can believe the Tennessean... http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070831/NEWS0206/708310433

1) No. No point to that. I have already recorded their TNDL number on the 4473. 2) Exactly. Usually the phone number too. Since the gun gets listed in my inventory and I am transferring it I have responsibility for it. If I go to transfer it and it comes up stolen the cops will come to me for the gun and I will have to explain where it came from. You are right the financial loss will be the buyer's.

I'll be getting a load in, complete with HomeBoy sights and an etched picture of Tupac Shakur on the side....

You might want to try the 158gr .357mag loads. I find they recoil much less than 125gr, which I find really unpleasant. More to the point, I don't see any reason for .357mag in a J-frame revolver. Any benefit (and I don't think there is much) is heavily outweighed by the negatives of cost, blast, flash, and recoil.

$320 otd ought to be doable. My wholesaler has 10+ in stock and they are in the top 5 gun wholesalers, so I dont think they are hard to get.

My strongest and sincerest condolences to Steelharp on the loss of his father. May this be the limit of all your sorrow.
