  1. Why J.C. Watts? He was a 4-term congressman from OK. Why is that a dream ticket? And since when do Republicans think someone is qualified just because he is Black? Bush appointed more Blacks to higher offices than any other President. And see where that has gotten him with the Black community. No, Thompson needs someone like Dick Cheney, an insider with long experience who can help carry out his plans.
  2. No surprise. Not that there's anything wrong with it. Charles Daly had a pink .45 for a while. I am surprised Kel Tec doesnt make their .32s in a pink since they have blue and some other color.
  3. I have been waiting years for a politician to say "While there are problems, not every problem is a Federal problem." That and, "A government big enough to give you everything is also big enough to do anything to you." I am making my contribution to the campaign today. I encourage others here to do so. Raising money is one of the biggest challenges of any campaign. Fred is admittedly behind in this. He needs support from gun owners like us. Not just running our key boards on sites like this but actually writing a check, wearing the buttons, talking to others, etc etc.
  4. Evertything in Hillary's life has been calculated towards politics. Great joke: Bill and Hillary go back to Little Rock to visit. They end up at this greasy spoon diner. Hillary nudges Bill and says "You see that guy behind the counter flipping burgers? I know him. We dated in high school." Bill responds, "You see. You married me instead and ended up married to the president of the united states." Hillary says, "Bill, if I had married him, I still would be married to the president of the united states."
  5. Sometimes, but more typically in recent elections the electorate splits the difference and one party has president and the other congress. If the GOP held Congress (or the blue-dog Dems) and Hillary got elected, we'd have grid lock for 4 years. Not a bad prospect actually.
  6. Yeah, but its more fun that way! The GOP suffers from a leadership gap, having basically executed anyone in a leadership role, like Newt Gingrich, Bob Barr, and now Larry Craig. Typically you look to governors for presidential material and, outside of the gov of MS, I dont see anyone.
  7. The question was addressed to active and past duty personnel, but I'll toss my opinion in anyway. Women have no place in the military. They create lots of problems and solve none. Their role in the IDF hasn't been wonderful or without problems either. I am also opposed to universal service. Training people takes time and costs money. It also deprives the economy of some of its most productive citizens. In all, a draft is a very expensive proposition. I understand the ideal of inculcating values and all, and I think that's great. But conscription isn't the way to do that. The system we have now works pretty well.
  8. You'd be amazed how being in power will limit what people can do. She wouldnt get to do half of what she wants. If elected she would screw up royally and probably be a one-term. That would be preferable to a Giuliani, who isn't any friend of gun owners either btw.
  9. If that happens Hillary is a shoo-in. Republicans will stay home in droves rather than pull the lever for that guy. I would honestly rather see Hillary as president than Rudy. At least the GOP would stand a better chance in '12. As it is, I dont think Rudy will get it. He isn't a Republican any more than Bloomberg is a Republican. He wont play well in the heartland.
  10. They are coming on the market because HK-Germany did a trade in with the LE depts there and exported a bunch to their American subsidiary, who sold them off to distributors. They are terrific guns. Very accurate and great to shoot. Three downsides: 1) No heat shield. The gun gets very very hot after about 2-3 magazines. Racking the slide can be tough. 2) If you carry one for self defense, better make it the only gun you carry. If you ease up on the squeeze cocker, the gun wont function. 3) Weak finish. A lot of them plum up or just wear off. Thus the need for this kind of treatment. Not a downside, but they have the Euro mag release that some people dont like. But other than that, very low bore axis, very nice single action (they call it "continuous action) trigger, very compact and flat. I have nothing but good to say about them.
  11. Is it really pink or is that just the camera? I am interested because I have a P7 that has desperate need for a refinishing (note to self: do NOT try to remove rust with naval jelly) so am looking for options.
  12. Quoted for truth. I see the move as simply a CYA by the BATFE, so they can be seen as "doing something" about this problem. It was a massive waste as I had to toss about 50 of the old forms and order new ones. And no, it won't prevent any prohibited persons from getting guns.
  13. I've got a PF9 in the shop if you want to look at it. I know the double stack 9mm from Kel Tec has a pretty good rep. The PF9 is certainly thinner. And the price is right, certainly better than the Kahrs. But why not a Taurus 905? That's a j-frame 5 shot 9mm revolver. You get the best of both worlds!
  14. This is always the issue with calibers like that. Is it really better than what's out there? The .400 Cor Bon offered advantages over whatever was around. So did the 9x21 or 9x23. So did the 10mm. But none of them was fundamentally any better than what was already around. So they are relegated to a few hobbyists. It is like that with rifle calibers. Every rifle caliber worth having was pretty much invented by 1917. Everything else is either a little faster, slower, thinner, smaller, fatter, or whatever than what is already existing. And while there is some improvement at the extreme margin, so few people need that kind of performance at that level that the caliber becomes obscure.
  15. And why can't a box opener be used as an offensive weapon? Oh, yeah. It was.
  16. The idea that Winchester would intentionally download their .357sig so as not to compete with another caliber is ludicrous, at best. As for whether 100fps makes much of a difference in actual performance, color me skeptical. The "real" .357SIG load in fact is the 125gr bullet going about 1350fps, as developed by Federal and SIG. As to the Doubletap loads, one has to wonder if it was such a great idea, why don't Speer (maker of the bullet) and Federal (original designer of the cartridge) make a round like that? I assume the answer is that they tested it and discovered that accelerating a 9mm bullet way past what it was designed for is a bad idea. I am not of the school of "bigger and faster equals better." I honestly don't care whether a round goes 100fps faster than another one. I do care that the round is optimized to obtain expansion and penetration without fragmentation. I think the .357sig is a fine round. There is nothing wrong with it per se. It was designed with a particular purpose in mind and it seems to accomplish that. I would not feel inappropriately armed if I were to carry one. But I don't see that it will have staying power because I don't see it offering much advantage over what is already out there.
  17. It is the triumph of the statistical method. If crimes involve guns, then logically more guns around will lead to more crime. And conversely fewer guns will lead to less crime. This is why you hear liberals bleating about "we got X number of guns off the street and that makes us all safer." It has a specious logic to it. It is complete and utter nonsense of course, but that is how they see it.
  18. I was kidding. It makes no sense at all. Most gun laws don't.
  19. Urse, so you're saying that Glocks are basically the methamphetamine of the gun world?
  20. I know a couple of gals who could give you free STDs. OT: A Joke. Two hicks were driving past a gas station with a sign saying "Chance For Free Sex With Fill-up." So they stop and the guy comes out. They ask for a fill-up and when he's done they ask about the free sex. "OK," the attendent says, "think of a number between 1 and 10." "5" says the one guy. "Nope, that isnt it, but thanks for playing," the attendent tells them. So they drive on. One guy says to the other, "I think that game is a scam." "Oh no, it aint," says the other. "My sister won 3 times last week."
  21. Right, but who carries standard loads for self defense? You carry the hottest most effective ammo you can handle. At the range you shoot cheap standard pressure stuff, and that is a lot cheaper than .357sig. And 100fps isn't much of a difference. And if you look at Winchester's site comparing the loads, the 9mm actually seems to perform better than the .357sig.
  22. Again, state legislatures would still have to contend with state constitutional provisions guaranteeing the right to keep and bear arms. In TN the record is very clear that the legislature has no power to ban guns entirely, as that is inconsistent with the constitution. They could make it a real PITA though. Of course, they would end up getting rode out of town on a rail if they even tried.
  23. Don't they make the gun in 9mm? Why would you want a .357SIG? I have Winchester Ranger 9mm ammo. It is 127gr +P+, 1250 fps out of the muzzle. That has to compare favorably to anything in .357SIG.
  24. No, I think it was the Coors who carried HiPoints, maintaining their reputation as defenders of freedom and cheapskates.
