If you have an actual scenario to ask about I'd suggest calling an attorney to discuss it.

Kalashnikov Rifle Gunfighting - Chattanooga
The Rabbi replied to Marswolf's topic in Training Discussions
There's a video somewhere on the 'net of Sonny demonstrating technique, complete with heavy metal music. His reputation is first rate from the comments I saw. As for usefulness, that doesn't enter into the equation much. Looks like fun to me. -
That pretty well summarizes it.

X-Treme OC: You Got The Cujones??
The Rabbi replied to The Rabbi's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Good point there. Weight wasn't really an issue. What was an issue was that the gun wasn't secured so bending over to pick something up made the barrel bang against things. Also driving with it was awkward. You definitely weren't going to forget you had that on. -
And this coming from someone who admits he has no idea what the law in TN is.[quote=DaveTN;24939 Again… I would have to see that simply being scared justifies the use of deadly force in Tennessee. You will never see that because that isn't how the law reads. Nor is that what I wrote. Or even close to it. If you have trouble reading material and interpreting it correctly ......

Nice story. Too bad you didn't dust the guy, who doubtless went on and threatened and probably injured someone less capable. Obviously circumstances will dictate reaction and we can play this game all night. But if you look like a victim ("I was just minding my own business") and can articulate a pretty reasonable threat ("and he thought I looked at him wrong and started after me with his fists clenched and ignored my command to stop") then I doubt anyone is really going to try to put you in jail. The burden of proof is on the prosecutor to prove wrong-doing, not the victim to justify himself. As for "force continuum" it reinforces my contention that police officers shouldn't train private citizens. Force continuum is for LEs who are under strict scrutiny for their actions and must justify them to superiors, investigators, and possibly juries. It is not for private citizens who enjoy the "mantle of innocence." If someone wants to carry this stuff, OK. But as I said at the outset, if it warrants using a taser then it warrants using bullets. And I could easily see a prosecutor setting someone up by asking, if you were so scared why didn't you shoot him? And if the answer is that you weren't really that scared, well that looks pretty bad.

Uh, boy. TN law (and common law as well) states that one can use deadly force to counter a threat of death or serious bodily harm. Now I ask, can beating someone with fists result in death or serious bodily harm? Seems to me the answer is yes. It seemed that way to the fellow in the movie presentation when I took the carry permit class. And from comments by people who have been on the receiving end, it sure seems like it too. So the answer would appear to be yes. I know in some states there is some weird "equivalence" doctrine whereby if he "only" has a knife I cannot use a gun against him. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me (knives are far more lethal at contact range than guns) and I guess it didnt to the lawmakers here either.

It is a canard. People ask me "would you shoot someone over $15?" The answer is, it is irrelevant how much money I have. If someone is threatening me, for whatever reason, I am going to shoot him if justified. FBI stats (if I recall correctly) are that even where the victim complies fully he will still get shot/killed about 45% of the time.
-
I dont think there is a good dollar amount to justify a shooting. I'm not saying you think there is. The 3 dollars makes it even more senseless. Reminds me of the shooting in Madison with the 2 Egyptian store clerks, killed for virtually no reason at all.

Yeah, you and what army, big boy? -
Ditto. The guys who publish the Heritage Gunsmithing series (Kuhnhausen) told me they have an AR-15 book all set to go but Colt has threatened to sue because they reverse engineered the info on Colts.

My first gun was a Buckmark. I still have it. But the gun has had reliability issues. I think the Walther is the best selling gun in the class. But people have told me it wont shoot worth a darn. They do win "best kewl factor" though. The Ruger is the next best. I had an old Mark I that was the best shooting gun I've probably felt (alas, a store gun and I had to sell it). Only downside seems to be field stripping them for cleaning. SIG Mosquito has a poor reputation. I would look for a used Mark I or an old High Standard. Oh, and don't feed them cheap Remington bulk ammo. That stuff never seems to work well.

X-Treme OC: You Got The Cujones??

It was definitely an "in your face" move. I wouldn't recommend anyone carrying a gun like that just because carrying a gun is a good idea. It was meant to be confrontational. I don't know what the AG will have to contribute to this, since the law is clear that open carry of handguns is ok, and these fit the definition of handguns. And nice to see you too George. Welcome to the forum. Now sit back and enjoy the recoil. -
I could see a situation where you couldn't carry. I might opt for a walking stick. As for the drunk, I don't hang around generally where drunks are. If I can get away from one, I'll do that. If I have to run, I'll do that too. But if I can't do those things he'd better be prepared for a very long nap. The issue would be that if you merely tased him the police would be getting a call "officer, I just asked this guy for a cigarette and he tased me for no reason at all."

It would be nice if the NRA and the state Republican Party could manage to schedule events some other time than Fri night or Saturday day. Might give some of us a chance to join in. <sarcasm off>
-
I cannot think of a situation where someone would not be justified in using deadly force but would be justified using a Taser or OC spray.

Talk about thread drift. Anyway, comparing dog fighting to hunting is nothing less than bizarre. But it reinforces why the civil rights movement has lost the moral legitimacy it once had.

X-Treme OC: You Got The Cujones??
The Rabbi replied to The Rabbi's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
The law does not distinguish between "conventional" and "unconventional" pistols. Being arrested for not committing a crime would invite law suit. The one actual case I know of, a person of my acquaintance, a 60 year old Vietnam Vet who's had a stroke, was carrying his AK pistol in Ashland City. The deputy rode up and told him he couldn't do that. My friend asked why not. The gun is a pistol. It says "pistol" on the side of it. Deputy said, sheriff ain't never seen nothing like that. My friend said that wasn't his problem and the deputy went away. Alas it is now academic for me as I have sold the gun this afternoon. -

Envy maybe. I took both the rabbi and his mother in law shooting recently. Both had never done it before and both really enjoyed it. So I think they are long ways from being gun owners but every bit helps. -

Frank, you bring up a good question, and one people have asked me. What is the law in regard to a Class 3 weapon on a carry permit? Can someone carry a Serbu Super Shorty, for example? Or a suppressed weapon? -

You laugh. You've never visited Baltimore. Some of those Orthodox guys I wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley... -
OK, here I am with my new carry. How many of you OC enthusiasts want to carry like this?

That is totally lacking in accuracy. Muslims and Jews worship the same god. The names are even cognate. Muslims and Jews conceive of G-d in the same manner, roughly. Christianity is the odd one out, incorporating some weird tripartite god-head or other. At the same time, Muslims have some different versions. Thus, Isaac was the one sent off with his mother Sarah while Ishmael and his mother Hagar were left at home. Ishmael was the one nearly sacrificed on the mountain. And then they leave out stuff.

Around $575 out the door with night sights new. Around $550 with no night sights new. Probably $100 less than that for used, depending on condition, etc. But good luck finding a used 19 that isn't just worn out. They are very popular guns.

In theory that sounds great. But the temptation to social engineer is very very great. And what politician wants to be the object of "he's thrall to Big <fill in the blank>, he's in favor of lower taxes on <fill in favorite vice here>"? If it truly a) replaced current income taxes and other levies, was across the board with no social monkeying around, c) raised the same or less revenue as now, I would support it for sure.
