1.
I got Wolf and Monarch for dime cheaper per round in hand not long ago, think I'll stick to the Russian steel unless I can find some good reports on this. Not too many hits with search, but the few aren't encouraging: Thread: Worst 5.56/.223 ammo ever: Your personal experience? Another mentions can't really be reloaded, flash hole too small. Might be Century is the actual importer, HotShot the brand they're using, whatever. etc - OS edit: here's some USA brass cased .223 at PSA just a bit cheaper: http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/federal-american-eagle-223-55gr-fmj-ae223af-30rd.html - OS
Good info. Maybe not as good a deal as I thought. -southernasylum Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
2.
Any good? HotShot must be the importer, like Wolf. I see they used to sell lots of 7.62x39 which was from Ukraine, has varying reviews, but this says Romanian made. Says SS109 bullet, but doesn't really claim NATO spec, though, so....? - OS
I dunno but is the cheapest I've seen by far for ages. 3. PSA has 62 grain brass case 5.56 @ $.38 a round! Get em while you can! http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/hotshot-elite-5-56x45mm-fmj-62-grain-500-rounds.html?utm_source=5.56+%28SS109%29+Ammo+On+Sale+NOW&utm_campaign=Constant+Contact&utm_medium=email   These won't last long.   -southernasylum
4. Me too! However I'm happy with mine even at $129
5. Very cool! I think my next one will be a 10" pistol.
6. I ended up going with this: https://www.primaryarms.com/product-p/dsabarrel.htm Very similar specs but 1:7 twist. A few buck less and they are in stock now. I haven't shot it yet but I'm happy with the looks. For the price of yours I've seen Yankee Hill barrels. I don't know if they are any better as I'm new to ARs.
7. Well that's it. I'm convinced. -southernasylum Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
8. Thanks! hopefully the first of many!   -southernasylum
9. I finally got it finished! I'm still waiting on my muzzle brake but I couldn't wait. Here it is: -southernasylum
10. I have the same vice block from Amazon and it works on my TGO upper.   -southernasylum
11. Wheeler's AR-15 Armorers Essentials Kit for a decent price on woot here: http://www.woot.com/offers/wheeler-ar-15-armorers-essentials-kit They also have an AR-15 maintenance mat. -southernasylum
12. Thanks for the heads up. -southernasylum Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
13. I should have done a search. Here's a link where they can be purchased thru the company. I think the Ebay listing may be the companies as well but they were showing the adjustable ones in stock. http://bte-usa.com/parts/micro-gasblocks.htm   -southernasylum   Forgot to mention, I received mine today. It looks great!
14. It's still the $200 tax if you make it yourself I believe. There's a company in KY that sells the adapters as suppressors and the adapter is the registered part. You use what ever oil filter you want with it. I just think it's funny how the ATF is lenient on intended use in this case but if you just have an extra stock in your home with an AR pistol you can be charged with manufacturing an NFA item. At least that seems to be the consensus. I think I'll stick with newspaper for my solvent catching needs. -southernasylum   P.S. I wish I was the one to come up with this! They've got several different listings of these and have sold thousands of these "solvent trap adapters" at $13.99 each. I wish them well. I really am glad they are being left alone, just a bit surprised.
15. I ordered some crush washers for my flash hider from this seller and then looked at what other items they had listed. I think they are playing with fire here. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-2-28-to-3-4-16-Oil-Filter-Thread-Adapter-Stainless-Steel-Solvent-Trap-Adapter-/261155049870?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cce0dd18e   I don't think it will end well for them.   -southernasylum
16. I found his link somewhere. The brand name on the Gas Block was BTE (Battle Tested Equipment) I went with the standard non adjustable because I didn't want to wait for the adjustable one to be in stock. I got antsy. I ordered a barrel and gas tube from Primary Arms and the UTG Pro Free Float Quad Rail from Optics Planet. I also ordered a BCM A2 flash hider so everything I need to finish this build is on it's way. I feel like a kid at Christmas!   -southernasylum   P.S. Here's a link for those interested to the stainless non adjustable Gas Block. I bought the black version of this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Stainless-Micro-Gas-Block-Low-Profile-750-Mil-Spec-556-100-Made-in-USA-By-BTE-/171195979261?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27dc1355fd     -southernasylum
17.
Dolomite posted a link to an eBay seller who has adjustable low profile blocks for around $45.00 That's an awesome price and if Dolomite says your good to go then you are.
Thanks! 18. JSE has these in stock. Anyone use this YHM barrel? I'm itching to finish this build! Also anyone have a lead on a good deal for a gas block?   http://www.jsesurplus.com/yhm165.56threadedchromelinedbarrel17twist.aspx   -southernasylum
19. I just wanted to bump this thread back up and get opinions on barrels, gas blocks, hand guards etc. I was originally planning on going cheap with this build but once I got a matching upper I opted for the AIM NiB BCG. While it was a great price the gun so far is shaping up to be pretty nice I think. I'm wanting to go with a 16 inch in 5.56. I really dig some of the thinner hand guards and free float rail options I've seen on some of these. I may bite the bullet and get a nicer free float so I'm thinking a low profile gas block is in order.   How important is an adjustable gas block to you guys? As this is my first AR I'm not sure if I need one or not. I'm not looking to do any super long range shooting I kind of want my first AR to be more of a traditional m4 type gun but I prefer the mid-length and carbine length hand guards and rails. I know nothing about the different performance of gas systems. Any info would be greatly appreciated. So to sum it up I'm lacking a barrel, gas block, gas tube and hand guard. What should I be looking for? Thanks TGO!   -southernasylum
20. If you decide to do it yourself, first google "floor elf" he has some great tips and tutorials.   -southernasylum
21. I was told anything under 2000fps rifle or pistol when I visited. -southernasylum
22. I've actually bout several prices if furniture there. I think they are better quality than most places I've shopped. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
23. Now that Christmas is over I went ahead and ordered one of the NIB Aim surplus Bolt Carrier Groups. They still had them at $129 so I thinks that's a good bargain. I thought about going cheap on a BCG but I don't think that's a good place to skimp on such a nice receiver set. Maybe I'll go cheap on the hand guard until I'm ready to upgrade. Or maybe not...   -southernasylum
24. I think mainly because youtube being what it is, if they didn't do it the first 2,000 comments would be idiots pointing out how unsafe the person was. It's just a preemptive strike against some of the "trained professionals" out there.   -southernasylum
25. Merry Christmas TGO! Thanks for such a great internet community! Blessings to all of you and your families as well. -southernasylum
