I like that form. I think I got my form from the same site about 6 or 7 years ago. It is different so they must have redesigned it, but it serves the same purpose. I just keep the sheets in a loose leave notebook.

The site keeps telling me that I need to join in the conversations so this post ought to satisfy the software for a while. I've sent a copy of my renewal to the local sheriff each time with the statement that it is required that he get a copy. I never hear anything from it. I see him quite often and we talk but the C&R is never mentioned.

Don't overlook the Ruger P series. I bought 2 P95's as gifts for under $300 each. Ran about 100 rounds of reloads w/cast bullets thru each of them without a hiccup. This tells me that they will digest just about anything 9mm. All reviews I read said they are very reliable. More important than "cool"

Unless they tell you different, fax is OK. Since I'm retired and don't have a fax at home, I mail my copies to various dealers. If I'm wanting to buy something right away, I go to a business and fax a copy. Always been accepted. John W.TN

Get on Empire Arms email notification list. You may find something you can't live without. If you have quick fingers on the keys, you may even get to it before someone else. I almost forgot, you need deep pockets for a lot of their stuff. Their procedure is to notify by email and make the list of new items available to those on the email list for 24 hours. Anything left after that is added to the regular site. By the way, I haven't been quick enough and prosperous enough to buy anything from them yet. John W.TN

Agreed! No downside. I have purchased 8 or 10 eligible firearms with mine over the past 6 years. Saves the $10 Instant Check fee and the dealer fee. Plus if you live in a small town that doesn't have an FFL dealer, you don't waste gas driving to pick up the gun. I also take advantage of discounts. I mostly deal with Graf. I find if you wait for a good sale at Midway, the sale price is about the same as the C&R discount. Still good. John W.TN

I bought two P95's before last Christmas. Gave them to my sons since they had been wanting a handgun. I paid less than $300 each for them incl. shipping. We've all been busy, so they haven't shot them so I 'm getting them back and will break them in for them. Everything I read says they are great guns for the money. Ruger's have always been reliable. I just bought a Westinghouse MN from AIM, actually about 2 weeks ago. Nothing special except it is in good condition and I worked for Westinghouse at one time. Had heard of the existence of these rifles from several old timers in the company. I'm assuming they also heard it from old timers. John

I didn't really want to start a new thread but when I tried a search on "gun safe" it brought back every instance of "gun" and "safe". You can imagine how many hits that was. Beside the point! I'm looking for safe vendors in the Nashville area. My son was broken into last night while he was out and lost two handguns and a computer. Even if insurance pays he will be out the deductible. I thought I might help him get a gun safe that would at least slow thieves down. Any recommendations?

OK, I called. Lady told me they hadn't made the background check yet. Said to call back about 9:00 AM tomorrow. Sounds like I should have called a month ago. John

Next Wednesday will mark 3 months since I renewed my Handgun Permit. I have yet to receive the actual permit. I wonder if the paperwork even made it out of the DL office. Is there a phone number I can call to check on it? This makes the 4th renewal of my permit and it has never taken this long. I see other posts where first time applicants are getting theirs much sooner. Why the delay for a renewal? John

I assume all the previous posts referred to a new permit. I renewed my permit for the 4th time on January 22nd. Still don't have it. Does it do any good to call, or do they just give you a "canned" answer? I'm beginning to think that the brouhaha in the Memphis Commercial Appeal is causing them to hold it to see if I do anything that might disqualify me for a permit.

Just finished reading every post in this thread (incl. the posts by those who didn't read anything but the thread title) and am not convinced to give up my Seecamp .32 ACP. Granted it is not a .380 but will do. It has no sights at all but it is no trick to keep all shots on a paper plate at 7 yds. I seem to remember reading several years ago that the designer referred to the Seecamp as a "face gun". Stick it in the perp's face and pull the trigger.

I might have to come around more often. Just read this entire thread. Glad to see there are lever lovers in TN. I've got 8 in my safe and don't favor one over any of the others.

OK! I keep getting the nudge at the top of every page that I haven't posted lately, so here goes. I have had my Handgun Carry Permit for about 12-13 years now. Got it back when we had to be bonded. I've taken one refresher course to bone up on changes to the laws and their interpretation. Now I am curious about further training to increase my skill with a handgun. I have read several threads about all the courses that many on this site have attended and it is obvious that most are Law Enforcement or other professionals. I'm just an ordinary guy, older than most here, who would like to go through a day or two of good instruction and practice that I can continue on my own at the local range. I don't spend all my free time at the range and mostly shoot by myself, so it is easy to fall into bad habits. Are there any courses that fit this criteria in either the Memphis area or Nashville area or in between? Unlike the courses to get the permit, I don't need instruction on the difference between a semi- automatic pistol and a revolver or similar topics. I own several examples of each and would like to be more proficient with them and more confident in carry situations. Looking forward to the replies. Also maybe this will get the message about no recent post off the top of the page. Thanks

I don't post here often because my main interests are not concealed carry even though I have a permit. I have been shooting handguns for many years and own too many to become more than proficient with any one of them("Beware the man with one gun. Or something like that.). I'm leading up to a question about something I saw on Nashville TV news in the last few days. The clips showed what looked like training classes on the firing range. Each of the participants was holding his weapon almost in line with his chin. It was a two handed grip but still very close to the head. Is this something new? Have Nashville training classes come up with a new stance to replace the Weaver or Isosceles? The only thing I can think of is they are trying to teach weapon retention. I guess this would work. There are several handguns that I don't want that close to my ears even with protection. Any comments or info to enlighten me?

A Remington Rand 1911. Traded a 1917 Colt revolver w/half moon clips for it. This was in a shop in Nebraska while working a summer job in college. Sold the 1911 so I could buy a Ruger 10-22. This was in 1964. I let a Ithica 16 ga. get away somehow about this time. I wish I had them all back. I do still have the 10-22.

I've gone through at least 3 threads on this subject and have a couple of comments. First, I only ask a FFL to take delivery on a firearm that is unique. The last one was a Freedom Arms w/extra cylinders. No dealer is going to have one of these in stock, especially used. Another was a Browning/Winchester Model 71 in almost new condition at a very attractive price. Each of these cost $25 + $10 TICS. On a percentage basis, it would have been prohibitive to use some of the dealers mentioned. By shopping good dealers, you can usually find a decent price on new guns. Sure the sales tax is a ripoff, but look at it as a convenience cost. As for good dealers, I have seen several mentioned in all areas of the state. One I have dealt with and haven't seen mentioned is Classic Arms in Cordova. They aren't cheap but not unreasonable either. I haven't tried a transfer with them since I don't live in the area. OK! Since I don't try to buy the "latest and greatest" of anything, I subscribe to Handloader, which has a lot of information on older guns and cartridges. I also get American Rifleman from the NRA, which I believe every gunowner should belong to, whether you agree with everything they do or not. If you are into really accurate rifles, Precision Shooting is a good magazine. While it is primarily aimed at benchrest shooters, there is a lot of good stuff there. Rifle magazine by the same publisher of Handloader is also good. I don't expect many here will be interested in some of these since the primary focus by posters here is semi-auto handguns (bottom feeders). While I have my share of these, lately I have looked more at revolvers and I don't find much on these, except for the new S&W super lightweights, which to me are overpriced and ugly. John

The Tac Four is a double stack LDA version of the P13-45 only in SS. That was one of the attractions for me. It came with two 13 rounders and I bought 2 more with the coupon that came with it. That made six usable in the two pistols. This was just after the 10 round ban was lifted. Apparently Para still had a ton of the magazines left from prior to the ban. When I first got the Tac Four, it didn't lock back after the last round from the magazine. Contacted Para and was referred to their repair facility in Sevierville. They shipped me a bag full of new mag springs. No more trouble. As I said, I haven't had time to shoot it much lately but hope to now that it is warmer.

I've had a Tac Four since they first came out. Haven't shot it much. At least not enough to know if there are problems or to get familiar with the trigger action vs. any other dbl action pistol or vs. a 1911. I like the concept but just haven't had the time. Counting the Tac Four, I have 3 para's and have had no problems with quality. The other two are double stack 1911 style that I've had for at least 10 years. I'm partial to the large grip on the double stack models.

Where did .010" come from?? .45 ACP is nominally .452" dia. Also where is the advantage of a smaller grip to most of us? I use a Hogue HandAll on my M21. Admittedly it is a handfull but comfortable and I don't consider my hands to be more than average size. John
