  1. With a name like MacGyver, frankly I'm lucky I made it to 18 without blowing my own nuts off. Reminds me of an old vasectomy billboard that was on 285 in Atlanta when I was a kid. It read, "Sure, it's not any fun to think about, but think of the fun you'll have showing off the scar."
  2. Yeah, but he's going to use a sharp rock!
  3. Man, Gordon. We'll keep you in our prayers.
  4. So I went through BNA this morning on my way up to Cleveland. Noticed several of the Honor Flight guys, and thought, "cool, I'll get to pay my respects." Imagine my surprise when I went through TSA to see the "secondary screening" area completely jam packed with sailors and airmen all in their Class A's getting the full treatment from the TSA. These were service members escorting the Honor Flight guys. It made me so mad I wanted to spit. I mean, really? The worst part of this jobs program disguised as security theater is that they really take themselves this seriously.
  5. I drink "French Market" brand coffee that I get at Publix. I really enjoy a coffee/chicory blend, though I like all kinds of coffee. One thing about chicory, is it will really stretch your coffee. I do an over pour through a single cup filter most mornings, as I'm the only one in our house who drinks it. I use a third to a half of the volume of grounds I would use with normal ground coffee. If I make it with two teaspoons of grounds like you'd use with regular coffee, it's so strong and dark that it'll literally stain a white ceramic coffee cup. Incidentally, though it's lower in caffeine.
  6. There's not a faster auto on the market than a ProTech. And, they're American owned and made. So many automatics really fail to live up to expectations. There are probably several reasons for that, some legitimate and some not. Regardless, I've never has that experience with a ProTech.
  7. Every last one of them is the same. Republican or Democrat, it doesn't matter. They're all bought and paid for; they just serve different masters. Either party in this zero sum game will drive our country straight to the gates of hell. It'll just take the GOP a little longer to get there. Until "we the people" throw every last one of them out on their ass and replace them with people who actually represent their given constituencies, we're all equally doomed. Romney and Obama are different flavors of the same thing. I'll hold my nose and vote for Romney because I prefer the scenic route to the cliff as opposed to a brick on the accelerator. I don't think Paul will be a spoiler. While I respect that he's stuck to his guns for as long as he has, I don't think he's ever really been prepared to be anything but the voice of dissent.
  8. Here's an interesting oral history piece done by UT a couple of years ago with one of the participants of the McMinn County War: http://web.utk.edu/~csws/interviews/white.pdf His account starts about page 18 or so.

The blackness of the human heart is truly amazing sometimes. What I don't get is his yes man, Andrew Young. He's kind of the Andy Fastow of this deal. Saw what was going on, and decided to take a little for himself, too. Two thoughts come immediately to mind. First is that anyone who actually wants the job of President should be immediately disqualified from it. Second, politicians, upon finishing their terms should report immediately to the nearest Federal penitentiary to begin serving their sentence for corruption.
  10. I "commuted" all over the country and world for several years. But, for the last 5 have been fortunate to be able to work most days from home. As a byproduct, I've become completely intolerant of traffic. I vote for finding something closer. Life is way too short to spend it breathing someone else's exhaust.
  11. I'm not going to watch the video, but I can say for a fact that as someone who was in 1WTC the morning of, and spent 9 months in the red zone afterwards, that we found, recovered and in some cases returned to their rightful owners plenty of phones and computers.
  12. Ohhhh...I'll even bring a trailer to come get them.
  13. I've really been enjoying fishing this year from my standup paddle board. It's simple, but you've got the advantage of a long moment arm with a 7 foot paddle. I've fished freshwater and saltwater this year, and am looking forward to several more river trips and at least two more gulf of Mexico trips. Last fall I rigged it with a car battery and a submersible light and hit the salt flats in the Big Bend Area for flounder after diving for scallops all day. It was a ton of fun, but such a silent craft and a good gig, it seemed like it was over before I even started having fun. We limited out so quickly, that I spent way more time paddling out there then I did actual gigging. I'm with you guys, though. I will be on the water in some form or fashion until the day I die.
  14. That's truly strange. Note that OC'ing without a permit is still allowable.
  15. Colorado School of Trade tuition is $18,900 and tools and materials are $3,500. It's a 14 month 1800 hour course of study.
  16. Here's a clear acrylic: http://www.eplastics.com/Plastic/Balls_Cubes_Hardware/ACRBAL1-125 I've ordered stuff from eplastics over the years and have always been happy. They used to have a minimum order, but I don't think they do anymore.
  17. Here's a variety of rubber ones. http://www.mcmaster.com/#rubber-balls/=h9m636 If you order from them, don't pay for expedited shipping. They ship out of Atlanta, and most times I've gotten my stuff via USPS the next day.
  18. Have you tried Mcmaster Carr? They'll have PTFE balls and a variety of other plastics. I'll see if I can post a link when I'm off my phone. B
  19. I saw someone at the range with one of these the other day and was pretty impressed. It looked like a great box - diamond plate steel, roll-on design and all. Then, on his way out of the range, the handle broke and the resulting spill popped open the door and dumped out all his stuff.I went from, "man that's a great idea" to "man, that's awful" in under a second.
  20. I get totally put out sometimes when I want a product, but am disappointed by either the unavailability of it or by the total lack of quality in a product that I've just spent good money on. What are the products that you've either been totally disappointed by or simply cannot find? For me, of late it's been magazine holders. I hate spending $75 on a Raven Concealment one, but every other holder I've tried of late has either been low quality or prints more than my weapon. I mean, is it really that tough? I guess I'm going to have to start pressing my own kydex.
  21. Videos like this are a great argument for hunting. Though we seldom get the chance to see it, death in nature is rarely quick or painless, and often involves getting eaten alive.
  22. Hmm. Could be, I guess.
  23. If so, shoot me a PM. I've got a need for one, and would just assume support someone on here.
  24. If you decide to go the p90x route, be very careful with the plyometrics and kempoX workouts. They are high impact, and can exacerbate joint issues, especially when some extra weight is present. I think you might be better served, at least in the beginning by another program. Having done both, you seem like an ideal candidate for Body for Life / Eating for Life. Both programs take a commitment, but Body for Life is better suited to someone who isn't already in good shape. I can say that one of the 90-day body for life challenges I've done over the years was with a coworker who was morbidly obese. He made the commitment in the kitchen and the gym, and he's the closest example of fat literally melting off that I've ever seen. Dude couldn't stay in clothes. There were several weeks where he lost double digit pounds and had to adjust his belt multiple holes. He kept that belt, and after a year on the program, that belt went around him twice.
