  1. Well...when we finally dredge Mississippi, we'll see who's laughing then...
  2. There's a good piece at the end of Michael Polan's Omnivore's Dilema where he talks about cultivating salt from locally sourced ocean water. Basically, in the 2012 version, the end result was so contaminated by other metals/chemicals/whatever else in the salt water that the end product was awful tasting and smelling and essentially useless..
  3. That's nice!
  4. Real torture is when I try to drink out of mine straight out of the freezer. Just like the kid in A Christmas Story - you'd think I'd have learned my lesson by now. That's a cool video.
  5. I'm going to go ahead and close this thread. As nothing good has occured in 3 pages, it's doubtful that it'll start now. I am kind of surprised that this has gone on for three pages. Really? Any third grader knows the right thing to do. Anything else is just rationalizing a wrong, and hurts the company you were so excited about doing business with in the process.
  6. You can pick up a a 442 or 642 all day on here in the $300 to $350 range. They're .38 Special +P rated. It's been a while since I've seen a 340 or 640 come across. You're right on the Walther. It's going to be tough to find one in that range - though one just sold on here last week in 9mm with three mags at the upper end of his range. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/44661-fs-walther-pps-9mm/page__hl__%2Bwalther+%2Bpps__fromsearch__1
  7. A J-frame makes a nice pocket gun. .357 is no slouch when stacked up against .45. I pocket carry a Walther PPS on occasion. They make that in a .40 - though it does rely on the safety that's located between your ears.
  8. Unscrew the pump housing and check in there. These stoves typically had spare gaskets and jet assemblies included. Your milage may vary on the leather gasket. I've had success soaking them for a while in a light oil. That said, unless you've got a particular sentimental reason for using the stove, there are some really great stoves out there that are less than a quarter of the weight of the M1950 that will likely cost less than the repair parts.

    hero 1911

I've got the first one they sold to the public. Picked it up the day of the great flood back in 2010. Jeff does great work, and you get a truly custom gun at a great price. I've got a couple thousand rounds through my commander-sized bobtail with no issues whatsoever. It shoots at least as well as any of the high end 1911s I've owned or shot. If you're going to sell it later, I'd probably buy the Wilson or Nighthawk. If you're going to shoot it, enjoy it and pass it down, I'd go with the hero.
  10. Yeah, look at the coupons from Target the next time they come in the mail. They're custom printing per customer at this point - not just the pregnant ones. I flipped through them the other day before tossing them in the recycle bin with all the other junk mail. Page for page, it was products my wife buys. Creepy as it is, I applaud them for actually doing something useful with all that data they collect.
  11. You know, I thought of the Guy Clark song when you posted earlier.
  12. I think it's a classic case of supply and demand. The supply is purposefully limited, and the demand is high. Add in the quasi-sentimental value many people place on them, and he can charge whatever he wants.
  13. At the end of the day, it's a Noveske - and a custom one at that. They're definitely not cheap. But, if you want to set the standard for quality, they're it.
  14. Noveske makes rifles for leftys. They're not cheap, but they are some of the best out there. lefthandrifles.com
  15. HSTs are officially a "Law Enforcement Only" round. There isn't a law concerning this in Tennessee - rather, it's ATK's policy with their dealers. Thus, you'll be hard pressed to ever see it in a store. AmmunitionToGo has it in stock right now - which is really rare. Two other good online sources are Tactical Defense Solutions and Kyle's Gunshop. I've ordered from both of the latter with great prices and great customer service. The 147gr P9HST2 is my carry round of choice.
  16. If it's a contact point when you're wearing it, your clothes/body is the likely culprit. I've got a Kimber Warrior that I absolutely don't baby.  Carrying it in kydex, it's got some significant wear.  Interestingly, though my worst wear is right on the beavertail, just like yours.
  17. That looks a lot like simple wear from being in contact with your clothes/body from being carried as opposed to coming off from a bump or something. I'm right handed and have a couple with similar wear patterns. I haven't worried much about it.
  18. Really? Just a friendly suggestion to help you have a better experience here. But, seriously. Lighten up. Feel free to disagree, but don't be insulting to other members.
  19. Feel free to disagree, and we certainly encourage intelligent discourse. But, lighten up.
  20. The streamlight micro stream is one of the best EDC lights made in the $25 or less category. Beyond that I'm a pure Surefire man. In my mind there's just no comparison.

    M60 or LCR

Not a thing at all wrong with the Model 60. For concealed carry, the only significant benefit of the LCR is the non-exposed hammer. But, hundreds of thousands of people have carried the Model 60 with confidence.
  22. Even with m193, you need to be careful using steel. Make sure you're using a quality target at an appropriate distance. There's a big difference between an AR500 rated target and a plate of mild steel.
  23. M855 rounds have tungsten penetrator tips in them. If you shoot them at steel, it's going to put holes in your target. The marks for pulling them won't affect your accuracy at the ranges you're likely to be shooting. I've shot pulled 168GR .308s out to 600 yards with accuracy at least as good as factory new.
  24. That thing just screams "pistol whip".
  25. That's a shame. I might not care to frequent the place, but I hate to see anyone have to go through that.
