To be honest, if you're an occasional hunter, occasional shooter & feel like one day you might like to maybe fool around at diddling some longer range gongs, the 6.5 creedmore (manbun) is the perfect choice. Factory ammo is cheap, plentiful & all of it is astonishingly good. Lots of bullet weights are available. It's low recoil, lots of rifle/component availability, inherently accurate. I mean, there's really nothing to not love about it (i still don't though......)

You don't have a lever gun.... You don't have a .30-06 & quite frankly, not having either is just damned un-American! Wha's wrong witchoo boy?! But for srslys... something in a 6.5 would fill the gap between your .308 & WM quite nicely. As much as I detest the 6.5 manbun, it's the logical choice. Personally i'd do either a 6.5swede on a modern action, or a 6.5 PRC if you're feeling froggy.

Dixie are good, Track of the Wolf are better. If you know exactly what you're needing, Ebay is best. What do you actually need? I have a few old locks & parts lying around that I've bought to cannibalize in the past. I may be able to help.

Ooh. One last thing. Im assuming that your scope budget is not included. A $200 rifle with an $800 scope will beat an $800 rifle with a $200 scope, 10 times out of 10

Savage Axis. I'm on my 6th, in one incarnation or another, & I've yet to shoot one that won't print super small groups. I couldn't say 'it's an sub moa' rifle, because honestly, very few are, despite the internet... but every one I've owned will hit a 3'x3' steel plate at 1000yds. That said, it took probably 500+ shots worth of practice, missing, math & ballistic calculations & corrections to be able to do it every time. 99% of LR shooting is down to that great big nut behind the trigger

Personally speaking, at iron sight distances i'd much rather have a .44 than a .30-30. Less recoil = faster follow ups & more of them, and in reality, the power difference at 100yds is literally a wash.

Well, the action is with ER Shaw, having a new barrel chambered, profiled & installed. I've stripped the stock & i'm on coat 10 of 40 of London Finish. A hand rubbed traditional oil. It'll probably be close on another 8 months before everything is finished. GTs Customizing reckon about a 3 month turnaround for the bluing & color case hardening & it'll be around another 3 to have the stock checkered.

Which section of the Duck? In Coffee County, below the dam at Normandy & through the town, around Cortner's mill, it's excellent stocked trout fishing year round. The Elk is better though, around Farris Creek right up to Tim's Ford dam. Im told it's also excellent down steam, but I have no personal experience. The Smallmouth & trout fishing is excellent in both rivers though.

This is literally the only way to know for sure. Being an old mauser, rechambered literally anytime in the last 100 years, you'd be silly not to. There were many tens of .21 & .22 caliber Wildcats designed and chambered in the '30s thru the '70s. My guess (&that's all it is) judging from the age of the gun & what was popular in the 'golden age of tinkering' when everyone was chasing speed, is it could very well be a. 223 wildcat based on the .250-3000 Savage.

I have that exact same SW 'folding hunter' My hunting partner picked it up at an auction in Big Piney, Wyoming last year. He gifted it to me as a thank you for dragging him out there! The very next day, I killed a big cow elk & used the knife to completely clean, dress & quarter the old girl. It'll be on my belt again this year.....

Fyi..... I moved here from England. Believe me brother, I feel your pain..... However, shipping a rifle TO TN from NY, even from NYC is as simple as I posted.

I have a good friend living in the Adirondacks. He's sent me 3 rifle's over the years & it was literally as simple as him taking each rifle to his local gun store & them shipping it to my local ffl. It was no more difficult for either of us than that.

Bubba hit the stock with a rattle can full of good intentions... "Twiddly bits" = bottom metal, trigger, bolt shroud & scope mounts. I'm undecided what to do about a recoil pad. I'd love a nice, checkered steel number, case hardened, but it'll mean a pretty short LOP. Like, 12.5" short.

Weellll........ $20 later. Decisions were made, money was spent, gunsmiths were contacted & I'm turning the proverbial sow's ear into a silk purse. So far, I've replaced the firing pin, polished & repaired the safety & sent the barrelled action off to ER Shaw for a rebarreling to 6.5x55. Once I have it back, it's getting sent right back out to GTs Customizing in Cody, WY to be reblued & have a few twiddly bits color case hardened. In the interim I've got a stunning lump of walnut, that some tit decided to varnish, to strip, polish & apply 30-odd coats of oil to, then ship off for checkering. I can't wait to get this one going!
