Country folks have used kerosene (same as diesel fuel) dabbed on their socks and pants cuffs to keep off the ticks for years. Works fine for bank fishing, but not sure about the odor for deer. Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? TN Sen. Fred Thompson

I'm like some of the rest of you. I just can't seem to get in the hunting mode until we've had a frost or two! I'm talking about squirrel, rabbit, and deer. And as pointed out here, there are possibly what we used to call "sound" shooters. These so-called hunters would shoot at sound in the bushes, without identifying what was making the sound.I've been hunting and shooting since my early teens, with a lot of "no hunting" years since then, and have to admit it concerns me! We didn't have the the large numbers of people in the woods back then...50s and 60s. Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? TN Sen. Fred Thompson

For some reason I was unable to get any of these to pull up. I'm interested in possibly hunting some in this area too, but don't know the WMA boundaries. Are these areas pretty much defined in the magazine "Tennessee Outdoor News", that we pick up at the ammo counter at Wally World? Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? TN Sen. Very nice pics. Thanks for taking the time to put them on here for the rest of us to enjoy. Deer hunting has definitely gone high tech. Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? TN Sen. Fred Thompson

Very kind offer! Wish I was close enough to take you up on the deal. I used to hunt in the West Tennessee area back in the 60s. Good folks, and good hunting land. Even though I'm unable to take you up on your offer, I'd like to thank you for your unselfish generosity. We need more like you out there in the hunting world. The best to you, and I hope everything works out for you and your family. Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? TN Sen. Fred Thompson

Have you considered the Savage Model 24 series of combo (over/under) guns? Savage made a turkey gun with a centerfire rifle on top, and a 12 gauge turkey barrel on the bottom. I have a couple of them, but haven't actually hunted with them yet. One is a Savage Model 24S-E in .22Lr/20ga., and the other is a Savage Model 24V-B in 30-30/20ga.. The 30-30 also comes in 12ga. also. I also have a couple of the Marlin 30-30s as well. This pretty well covers a lot of the hunting. I'd check out ###.com. That's where I goy mine. Hope this helps, and good luck. Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? TN Sen. Fred Thompson

You lucky guy! That looks like a wonderful deer hunting place. A friend of mine swears the trail cameras is the way to go now days. That good scouting work everyone is talking about should tell you volumes about where to put your stand. My guess is that you're going to have lots of success there. I'm jealous! Good luck. I'm hoping to get in a little deer hunting this "gun" season. I have a couple of Marlin 30-30s with 3x9x40 8 point scopes, and a Savage Model 24V in 30-30/20 Ga. over under combo gun. I'm excited to see what I can do with the Model 24V. I'm debating as to whether I should put a scope on it or leave it with open iron sights...opinions? I realize the terrain makes a difference, but either should work here in Middle Tennessee. Anyone have any experience with a Savage Model 24V 30-30/20 ga. ( deer hunting) that could give me some tips on them? All sincere tips appreciated. Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? TN Sen. Fred Thompson

That must be quite an experience, seeing a gun you owned before show up on a forum. Sort of like running across a '55 Chevy you owned when you were a teen ager, I would imagine. Sharp revolver. Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? TH Sen. Fred Thompson

Good luck with the Glock. I have a 26 myself, but haven't found the perfect IWB holster for it yet. I like to carry it in the appendix position, so what I might potentially shoot off could change my family tree... if you get my drift! Maybe I had better follow your lead and go for the 4 O'Clock position, and turn the other cheek. Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? TN Sen. Fred Thompson

I carry my Kel-Tec P-11 in my pocket as my primary defense weapon. But, have been on the look out for the right deal on a Kel-Tec P3AT, or a Ruger LCP as a back up gun. It's just so concealable, and having it on you is "everything" when the fertilizer hits the fan. Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? TN Sen. Fred Thompson

I realize the thread is a bit old, but just wanted to add my two cents. I own some Taurus, kel-Tec, and Glock weapons. My primary carry weapon is my Kel-Tec P-11. I agree with Oldogy, the KT is a good product for a good price. I've tried everything, and let others try their tricks, to try to make the kel-Tec P-11 jam, even limp wristing and shooting it upside down. No jams, so far. Yes, the trigger is a DAO, with a stout pull, but that is the safety feature, as far as I'm concerned. My Glock 26 is not a comfortable concealed carry weapon. Maybe i haven't found the right IWB holster yet. I have no doubts about the performance and reliability of my P-11. Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? TN Sen. Fred Thompson

I've owned a couple of Kel-Tec P-11s, and still use one as a primary carry weapon. I haven't had any mechanical problems with them, but had the "infamous" mag rattle, with the stock 10 round mags. I contacted them via email and phone, and they sent me replacement 12 round mags with no rattle. I'm very happy with the service I've gotten so far. I have a Kel-Tec P-11 that I use as a primary carry weapon. I probably have only a couple hundred rounds through it, but no problems what-so-ever with the plastic guide rod. I can't speak to the clip, as I've never tried one. I carry mine in my right front pocket, in a pocket holster. It works fine except my current holster, an Uncle Mike's soft holster, comes out when I draw the gun... not good! I'd like to find an "A-Holster" if they make a pocket holster for the KT P-11. I agree with what Deerslayer is saying above. One of my carry weapons is a Glock 26, and it's a pocket full... especially if you're wearing jeans. I'm about six feet and 200+ and it's also pretty heavy for the front pocket. I also have a Kel-Tec P-11 that I pocket carry, in jeans, all the time. I only carry it in my front pocket. Actually, the P-11 is quite comfortable as a front pocket carry gun, and looks natural if you have your hands in your pockets. Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? TN Sen. Just as an afterthought, often times there are a number of the same make and model on Gunbroker. These prices usually vary quite a bit. Makes for good data to establish a mid range price, when compared with the offerings of other sites. Good for "window shopping". Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? TN Sen. I'm the friend Westwind Mike is referring to. I used both email and phone calls, but mostly emails. The 12 round mag is the same exact dimension as the 10 round (10 round rattles, 12 round does not). My plea was that a rattle from my mag could give my position away, were I trying to conceal my position, while confronting a night time intruder in my home. The danger of this situation is obvious. They were nice people to deal with. Why is it called common sense, when it is so uncommon? TN Sen. Fred Thompson

Sharppoint, I was told A-Holster did not make a pocket holster for a Kel-Tec P-11. Are you saying you have one made of Kydex, designed for the KT P-11 to be carried in the right front pocket? This is exactly what I've been looking for. Currently I'm using an Uncle Mike's soft pocket holster that comes out everytime I draw the gun. Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? I'm afraid the "gunshow undercover" video may be the proverbial camel's nose under the tent, if the Bloomburg crowd has any luck in the so-called mainstream media. The earlier statement about the percentage of guns going from the US into Mexico was refuted as being an outright fabrication, or misleading at best. We all need to make sure our NRA dues are paid up. If you're not already an NRA member, I hope you'll join very soon. They are fighting for us, and need all of our support. Sub-Compact Suggestions - Here's a list of what I've been looking at:
Sidewinder replied to zeitgeist's topic in Handguns
I have a Glock 26, and like it a lot. However, it's not the most comfortable weapon for ITWB carry. I also have a Kel-Tec P-11 that fit's nicely in the front pocket of my jeans. It seems that accuracy pretty much depends on the shooter, and how much training/practice they have. Pop lots of caps, and often. Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? My Kel-Tec P-11 with a 12 round mag, in a Blackhawk Size 3 soft holster. This is tucked nicely in the right front pocket of my Levi jeans, with a golf shirt worn outside. Some printing, but not too bad. Makes it look natural when I have my hands in my pockets. Chuck -
I look at the prices listed on Gun Broker the same way I do a lot of other advertisments. I view them as "asking" prices, not necessarily "selling" prices. We see similar situations for airplanes in Trade-A-Plane, and for vehicles in Wheels and Deals. Often times, you'll see many items with the time expired, and no bids. Obviously, no one wanted to pay their asking price. Look at some of the asking prices on some of the other forums. Sometimes, a brand new one can be bought at a local retail outlets for the same price, or cheaper. Of course, there's still the tax and TICS to pay. Be sure to look for the price the item sold for on Gun Broker, not the price they were asking. Just my observations. Happy Labor Day, Chuck I believe we have the most dangerous bunch of politicians in Washington, than I've ever seen in my entire lifetime! I fear we could loose many of our rights and freedoms, including our guns! Chuck

People that will cut you off, to get in the right hand lane in front of you, then slam on their brakes to make a right turn. They were initially behind, but pulled around in front and cut you off, only to brake heavily in order to make that right hand turn onto another street or driveway. Why didn't they just stay behind and turn right from that position? it's "ME" first, and it's getting worse! Courtesy seems to be going, or is, out of style these days.

TERM LIMITS, is what we need on all elected officials. Then we wouldn't have to put up with their arrogance. It would put the power back in the hands of the people, IMHO. Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? TN Sen. Fred Thompson -
Oh, there are plenty of people like that out there. They, and their ambulance chasing lawyers almost killed General Aviation (everything except the airlines and military) in the late 1970s. Some manufacturers even shut down building new models with improvements, because the trial lawyers were suing that the old models were defective, otherwise, there would be no need for improvement! I did my Master's Thesis on "Product Liability in General Aviation", and covered many cases as stupid as the skydiving case. The small airplane industry is still struggling to get back on it's feet, even to this day. The last Cessna 152 that was built sold for $42,000.00, and $15,000.00 of that was "Product Liability Insurance"! We don't have the time, or patience, here, but I could tell you about many dumb cases like the one above, many! Why do they call it common sense when it's so uncommon? Sen. Fred Thompson (Tennessee)
