  1. I'm interested in finding a middle TN rifle smith as well. Surely we have some good builders in TN? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. That is going to be my next pistol purchase and will likely happen soon! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. It is really hard to see those little bumps at 100 yards unless you have some high-end optics and the deer gives you a good angle. It stinks when it happens but as long as the deer gets in your belly, then don't sweat it too much! I'm starting to get burned out. I had the perfect opportunity to get out and hunt today- my wife took our kids to visit family for the night and I'm off work. Instead, I slept in and worked around the house. It was nice sleeping in for once but I'm now kicking myself for not being on a stand right now.
  4. I'm with ya Randall. I would almost rather shoot a coyote than a mature buck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I have deer hunted for over 30 years (most of those in LA and MS) and until 2 years ago, never saw a yote while deer hunting. This year, I shot one with my bow and another with my rifle. Have y'all shot many this year? I recently had two does under my stand feeding and I saw this yote walk out 200 yards away, spot the deer and then charged them running wide open. He came flying by me and I did not have a good shot and he chased the deer off in a thicket. About 3 minutes later he messed up and walked back out on the edge of the field and the 7mm-08 barked. It was the first kill with a brand new rifle. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Like others, I have had multiple calibers and ended up getting rid of all my .40's and consolidating to 9mm. I recently got a 10mm and it is now my favorite caliber by far. I reload so that helps a bit and the round is accurate and in my opinion, as easy as 45 acp to shoot. It does not seem as snappy as .40 to me. I will always have the 9mm caliber and the G20 will by my woods gun from now on. I'm also hoping to plug a deer with it soon. Underwood cast and XTP's in 180 or 200gr seem to get the best reviews from 10mm hunters.
  7. Nice catch and I hope you get everyone in the county!
  8. I have been considering doing one of these builds as well. How complicated are the mid level builds and do I need many specialty tools? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I have cooked it a lot of different ways and my favorite is still fried steaks. We usually cut it in a small strips and hit it with a tenderizer a few times. Lightly season, roll in some flour and fry until done. Can't beat it!
  10. Nice! Have not heard that one before.
  11. I'm my experience, they all end up dying after 2 or 3 yeArs so go with something in the 100 to $150 range. I feel it is hard to beat the Browning line of cams. I have 4 and 2 are in their third year of heavy use. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. That's awesome man and making good memories. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Nice. The '06 is about as classic as it gets in my opinion. I killed my first deer with a Remington 742 Woodsmaster and we always used 165gr Core-Lokt off the shelf ammo. It always did everything I wanted it to do. I had a garand as well and it's one of the few guns I ever regret selling. My 280AI may go up for sale soon as well. I have a Kimber 280AI that is a great shooter but I have been wanting to get another 30-06 and have been eyeing a cooper arms excalibur I just need santa to drop off a pile of cash and I'm all set. And yes, you definitely need a 1911 as well!!!!!
  14. That is great to hear. I just picked up a Kimber eclipse 10mm and starting to figure it out but I really want that Glock! I do reload so I'm sure I could find an accurate round and primarily want to use it to hunt deer. 30 to 40 yards should not be a problem with that 6" (or 9"!) barrel.
  15. What kind of accuracy are you seeing out of the MOS? I almost picked one up last week but found a 10mm 1911 that I got instead. I'm thinking my 1911 needs a Glock companion so I'm sure it's going to happen soon.
  16. I have a Kimber 280AI and I struggled for a while to try something that worked. I finally did a full bedding with trigger work and found a 140gr load that is lights out. I have not tried anything in the 160gr range but have been itching to try to work something up.
  17. Thanks man and I'm good to go now. Appreciate it!
  18. Hi, I have submitted several requests on the "contact us" tab but have not gotten any feedback so hoping someone can help here... I have tried purchasing a one year and a 6 mo membership but I keep getting a message that states "you have already added this item and can not add another". I have cleared out my shopping cart and cache but can't figure out why it will not add the membership to my cart. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
  19. Just thought i would give an update on the finish after a year of hard use.  I probably have this pistol on me 75% of the time I leave the house and alway appendix carry.  In summer, I sweat a lot and while working on the farm, the pistol takes some abuse.  So, after over a year of hard use, this thing still looks pretty close to the same as it did the day I picked it up!  I'm now a full believer in the benefits of cerakoting.
  20. I just found this thread and want to thank you for putting this info out there!  I had been buying the Sawyer brand but it is expensive for the amount of use you get.  Just ordered some Martin's so hopefully this will get those nasty ticks.
  21. I picked up one in 7mm-08 for my 9yr old son as his first deer rifle.  It kind of "is what it is" -  Its an inexpensive mass produced rifle.  Mine is shooting decent groups but as long as it stays within 2" MOA then I'm fine.  The stock is VERY flimsy and I took mine off and dremeled a bit to float it a bit better and the bolt is very rough (I have a Sako so I'm very spoiled).  I also painted the stock and have been pretty happy with it; especially considering the low cost.  My son took his first deer with it on Thanksgiving afternoon! For those interested, the 140gr reduced recoil rounds by Hornady are the ticket.  It did a number on a big doe at 100 yards and I'm probably going to hunt with this setup the rest of the season.  It's very light and easy to pack with minimal recoil.
  22. Yea, I did call them and was given the run around.  Talked to Mr. Thurston at 08. I included all required docs: trust, assignment form, form 4, cert of compliance, blah blah blah.   I get the feeling they are just really starting to crack down on trusts.  I would probably go a different route if I ever do this again which is very doubtful.  Its just not worth the hassle.  But then again, that is exactly what they want!  On second thought, I think I'm going to go SBR something this week :)
  23. I submitted my form 4 over 6 months ago and just got back a denial letter stating the following: Declaration of trust is required, including any attachments mentioned in the trust.   I spoke to my dealer, my attorney and the NFA and no one seems to know exactly what is required!  To the best of my understanding, the NFA now wants a schedule of assets that lists everything currently in the trust.  This is my 3rd class 3 item and I have never gotten this letter and an internet search turned up nothing definitive.  Have yall ever heard of this?  I'm unclear on what I need to send them.   Thanks! BTW- I assume this is another "stall" procedure as I have a trust.   I came really close to terminating my application as I'm so PO'd about this entire process.
  24. I agree 100%.  It's funny, back when I was little all the boys got picked up by their dad early on the Friday before opener and also on Thanksgiving break and we went straight to the deer woods.  My son (he is 9) is one of the few boys in his entire school that hunts.  I have several friends from Church that want to learn how to hunt and I have taken a few but most drop out when they find out it requires WORK to hunt, kill and process an animal.
