Any rim fire shooting action going on in middle tn?
Loon160T replied to a topic in Events and Gatherings
There is a Project Appleseed shoot coming up soon at the Arnold AFB Rifle Range. It's October 2nd and 3rd starting at 8:30 each day. I personally haven't been to one of these events but it's on my to-do list. -
+1 on this. Started my wife out on the P22 and she's recently moved up to the PK380. She still uses the P22 for range work and, since both have the same form and function, she's good to go with the PK380.

Google-Fu is a good thing. Mexican Carry "Mexican carry: misunderstood as to both history and application, this common practice can cause some well-documented problems In the 2004 American Handgunner Annual, in an article on concealed handgun carry, I made the point that there were a lot of reasons not to simply stuff the pistol into the waistband without a holster. This practice is known colloquially as Mexican Carry. One reader wrote, shocked, to ask why I would use such a "racist" term. I was reminded that we old, gray gunnies can't take for granted that the new generation knows where our ancient lingo came from. Honorable History If you go back to the roots of this term, you find that there is no racism, nor anything else pejorative in "Mexican Carry." The lore of the gun tells us that back in the 19th Century, the Mexican vaquero, much like the American cowboy, was an independent and self-reliant sort who often made it a point to carry a handgun. Alas, the history of 19th century Mexico was entailed one despot rising after another. The day came when the average citizen was stripped of his former right to go armed when he wished. This did not sit well with the fiercely freedom-loving caballeros. They grudgingly took off their gun belts and holsters, because possession of those accoutrements would be seen as evidence that they had violated the draconian new laws that disarmed them. However, they defiantly kept their handguns, simply stuffing them into the waistband behind their ordinary belt. If the Federales hove into view, the citizen would simply slip his revolver into some discreet place where he could retrieve it later. Thus, as I understand the history of the matter, there's nothing culturally negative about "Mexican Carry," as it became known. When we use the term, we're paying homage to generations of men south of the border who refused to give up the right to protect themselves and their families because petty tyrants attempted to make them helpless."

I used to go on the camping trips with my nephews (their dad wouldn't go). I think most packs/troops would welcome volunteer help for meetings, camping trips and other events.

Was at the Viola range today and a guy had a ArmaLite AR-30 .338 Lapua that he and an acquaintance were working on. He had already sent it back to the factory three times for a bolt issue. The acquaintance is a long-time high-power shooter and knows his way around a rifle and is going to try to get this rifle running. He let me try out his Savage 110 BA in 300 Win Mag a few weeks ago and it's one fine shooting rifle. They also have the 110 BA in .338 Lapua at a similar price point as the ArmaLite.

I think it was posted under the original post for last month's trip. Next month's shoot should be posted as a separate post so it isn't lost in the noise.

Good group today. TGO members Mr.Accuracy#1, Kdud03, DavidH1, G-Pa Glynn and Loon160T were there along with three other non-members. Here's a few more snapshots.

Thanks for your interest in this tour. I can go ahead and say that there's not any parking garages in Manchester but I plan to contact two or three businesses with large parking lots to get their permission to park for the day. I also think I need to contact the Manchester PD to let them know we'll be leaving several vehicles parked for the day.

I haven't finalized that detail just yet. I'll update the first post in this thread as details are firmed up. Sorry to hear that. Perhaps it'll change again and you'll get to come along. That's my hope as well.

Daisies don't have tomato in them but ketchup/catsup and V8 juice does.
-
plus some mustard, molasses, bacon and a rear end crash and you have a baked bean.
-
That happens a lot after eating beans.

Welcome aboard and enjoy the ride.

Good point and I understand that and the tasting portion is optional. It's only a possible option at this point and I'd welcome other comments/suggestions related to this or any other aspect of the tour. By the way, none of the distilleries have asked what group I represent and I haven't volunteered that information. The bus company knows since Vontar suggested making sure there wasn't an issue carrying on the bus. I'm open to any and all suggestions since this is the first time I've put anything like this together.

UPDATE Date: Saturday, November 6 or Saturday, November 13 Depart from Manchester at 9:00 (location TBD) Stop 1: George Dickel's - I have contacted their tour office and they will be ready. We'll be divided into two groups. Stop 2: Jack Daniel's - I haven't talked to anyone yet since the contact person is out until tomorrow. Stop 3: Prichard's - I have talked to them and they do tours. We'll be divided into two groups. We'll have a lunch stop in Lynchburg or a dinner stop in Winchester depending on what the group wants to do. However, we'll decide which well before the tour date. I have also talked to the bus company and I think we're good there. The lady said she needed to check to make sure there wasn't any issues with carrying. She is supposed to call me Monday if there is a problem with that. Things seem to be falling into place. We just need a few more folks to show intrest (I have 17 right now).

Right now the plan is to leave from Tullahoma. I might reconsider and use Manchester as the starting point since it's right on I-24 and might be more convienent to non-locals.

Spouses, girlfriends or both are welcome too. Just let me know in your post so I can keep an semi-accurate headcount.
