  1. What do you need to know about them? They're black, evil looking, and scare democrats. StrickJ, you live in Chattanooga, so I would recommend you make a short drive over to Winchester and see the guys at Hero Gear. They can tell you everything you need to know, and then cut you a deal on a rifle if you decide that you want one.
  2. No need to shoot at 10 yds either. Start at about 7 ft so she can get shots on target and build her confidence. That and dry firing should help. Also, try having her greatly exaggerate the trigger squeeze, rather than just jerking the trigger.
  3. Yup, it was me I learned my lesson, and the skin is finally starting to turn the right color again (this happened over 6 months ago).
  4. And I don't recommend trying to put out burning magnesium with your foot.
  5. +2 on the 550
  6. I think the noise making is taken care of.
  7. I forgot to mention, urban warfare against rodents and pigeons.
  8. That sounds just crazy enough to work!
  9. It's for all those urban warfare situations where you have to hide in a cardboard box and don't have room for a full size rifle.
  10. The Glock is actually kind of a grey area. The trigger half cocks the striker, so you could call it a double action if you wanted to. The springfield trigger only releases the striker allowing the gun to fire, so the trigger only does one thing (unless you count the safety from that goofy nubbin thingie).
  11. Not intentionally, but normally within about 1 minute I can tell if the guy knows what he is talking about or not.
  12. I think part of the confusion is that marketing departments won't just call them single action. Springfield calls theirs the Ultra Safety Assurance (USA) action, Glock calls theirs the Safe Action, and who knows what else. It's just because they a) want to be different and new and b)know that if people realized that they were walking around with a single action pistol with no safety they might not be too keen about that idea.
  13. Then might I suggest that you stop wearing blaze orange. It makes for an easy target.
  14. I consider the XD single action.
  15. It is completely invalid now, since the statewide carry permit did away with any local programs, so I don't know where it is now. As far as I know he never really carried at all, so I suppose he kept it concealed if he did. He's already my hero
  16. There is no shame in not being stupid. I know some people are simply not capable of understanding, but there are shades of grey. You are putting forth a false dichotomy, you either rashly run in to a terrible situation, or you're a gutless coward. If that's how you see it, good for you, but it's stupid. Good luck trying to find a good samaratin law that covers your ass if you shoot an innocent person under any circumstances, especially if you knowingly put yourself into an easily avoided and extremely dangerous situation.
  17. In case there was any confusion as to my tone, I added a to it.
  18. Yea, but it'll be ok cuz he's a hero.
  19. Ha, tell me about it, my dad still has his.
  20. I haven't weighed in on this thread yet because I don't know. Mars pointed out how foolhardy it would be to rush into a situation like that without proper training, especially if you had never been shot at before, and since I've never been shot at and I think he has a time or two, I'm inclined to agree. I'd like to think that I could throw caution to the wind, run in and save the day, but that's a daydream and I know it. I have thought this situation out before though, and my plan would be to get into the closest store and get to the back room and wait, keeping an eye out on the front of the store. If someone came around the corner shooting at people, I'd probably return fire, especially if he came toward my position, if not, I'd keep my ass put. As far as heroism I'd do my best to get as many people into the back room as I could, but beyond that, I'm not looking to get in an avoidable gunfight any time soon.
  21. You could get permission from local law enforcement. Memphis had what they called the Special Deputy Program. A special deputy could carry a gun, and even had a badge.
  22. Sometimes it disappoints me that it really is that simple. Mostly when I'm telling it to a new shooter and they start shooting as well as I do.
