Recently switched from drinking Woodford Reserve to Knob Creek. Even being 100 proof the Knob Creek still goes down smooth, especially over a little ice.

I don't use Wolf or any of the steel cased stuff but that's just me. I usually buy in bulk, better deals to be had by the thousand. Walmart Federal .223 works just fine too but it smells like cat piss.

The optics ready model is definitely a good deal, you can add some Magpul flip up sights to it. Even if you add an optic it's still a good idea to have irons as a backup if you're concerned about zombies or TEOTWAWKI or stuff like that.

According to Smith's site that rifle has a 5.56 chamber. That's a great deal, he's going to need some sights on it though.
