  1. i have a coleman backpacking stove that ive had sitting in my garage with the same fuel in it for at least 12 years and i start it up once a year at least just to ensure it still lights. it has never failed me. i guess i should pour it out and put fresh fuel in it sometime. i store 35 gallons of unleaded and 15 gallons of kerosene in my garage. it is not attached to my house so i guess its ok. i also keep 3 spare propane grill tanks. would be pretty interesting if it ever catches fire, God forbid. i rotate my gas through my truck at a 5 gallon can per month so the oldest one is 7 months old. i dont treat it but have never had a problem. the kerosene has been done at around 5 gallons per year when i burn it out in the garage while im working on something in the winter.
  2. my wife and i also went to Allens on dover road. Randy spent a couple hours with my wife showing her most of the weapons and speaking to their good and bad points. definately top notch customer service and their qualification range is in their yard. no need to drive out to the MCSC anymore.
  3. dried milk can be stored for quite awhile. i store rice, flour, beans, salt and sugar in buckets. before you go into that though, i would suggest storing several months worth of canned goods, veggies, fruits, meats, soups, stews, chilly, etc... get 3-6 months of the stuff you eat regularly. if you eat alot of oatmean and rice, get that as well. i get my buckets from the local walmart bakery, cleaned out for $1/ea. last time i was in sams, i saw bulk rice, flour and sugar. i tink they had pinto beans in bulk but that was about it. not sure where youre at witout looking as im not familiar with dunlap but i know in the nashville area, there i a LDS cannery where you can buy bulk items cheaper and can them in #10 cans or buy bulkto repack in your buckets. several other places also sell bulk but you would have to look for best prices.
  4. IOR is another good company to look at. as stated above, pretty well count on gettign a 20MOA base. TPS makes a budget friendly option and is availible from SWFA. i also like their rings. stay away from anything in the 1" tube range as it limits the amount of travel. most will be 30mm tubes with a few being 35mm and fewer being bigger than that. the tube diameter will determine the amount of travel it will be capable of to some extent. the rest is mechanical. the size of the objective determines the amount of light that passes through which helps with field of view and contrast. i would go with a 50 or 56mm to get to 1000 but if its going to be a bit more portable and shoot closer in a majority of the time, id go down as far as 40-50mm
  5. the best one for no budget, ino, is the nightforce nsx 5.5-22x50 which will run about 1600+ depending on where you look. for half of that cost, id probably choose a bushnell elite 6500 4.5-30x. that said, what kind of .308 do you have? just because it shoots .308 doesnt necessarily mean its capable of repeated 1000 yard shots. most shooters cant either so i assume you will also be getting the proper range time and possibly some training?
  6. ive got several friends that believe they should do things but never do.
  7. there is 20-35lb bags in the bulk column on the list provided above. im guessing that means you can pick up bulk as asked above? probably wouldnt be able to get it canned without being there im assuming.
  8. are they usually pretty good about ignorant newbies being there? i have no idea what id be doing there other than a couple videos ive watched about dry pack canning.
  9. i appreciate it. i cant find the info for it right now. had a website with prices and locations etc.
  10. have been reading a bit about LDS canneries as a cheaper alternative to buy in bulk and can your own storage foods. i saw a link, which i cant find right now, about there being a cannery in Nashville. has anyone here utilized this facility? are they ok with non-members using it?
  11. just added another for the 24th. ill be there. i will also have my set of 9mm glocks there for whoever posted above wanting to get his wife on one. ill try to talk my wife into going as well as women seem to prefer other women showing them things like that.
  12. when ive been there in the past, i was told that there isnt really much you can do except pick a random number between 1 and 15, i think, and go with it. it does break up the monotony but they arent working half the times ive tried them. you can also program them for intervals, like showing for 2 seconds and then away for 5 or whatever you choose. i use this as a way to test my abilities to get on target without a pocket timer.
  13. blackhorse had a sign but it was a tiny little red circle with a gun and slash on it in the lower corner of the window by the front door. havent been there for quite awhile. i did look at shoguns last night. they never had a sign out front that i remember but they did have a sign behind the bar stating what the punishment would be for having a weapon. i did not even see that sign last night.
  14. i cut my foam with a utility knife. had to cut through it in two layers and it came out a bit rough but it works for now. i am doing my case over again and will be getting a new piece of foam. glad i saw this thread as i didnt even know any other ways to cut it.
  15. my dad just moved up to elyria from naples florida. ive been trying to get him to get a carry permit for a couple years now. maybe this will help? either way, its good to see people standing up for themselves and refusing to be a victim.
  16. and i always got the weight argument when i talked about my 12lb M14. i havent put mine on the scale but id bet in the 8-9lb range. it is a basic 14.5" carbine with a reddot.
  17. i am stepping up to something similar and am going to be storing grains and such for long term. right now i keep a large active pantry of day to day stuff. if i use one i try to buy two the next time kind of thing. i am trying to get food grade buckets from the baskin robbins and dunkin donuts in my area. gotta retry kroger as well. small savings but at 5 bucks for a bucket, freebies extend the budget. dont forget water storage as well as most people are severely lacking on that side.
  18. guess im slow but i thought he mentioned a bear and hawg hunt near madisonville around the 24th?
  19. didnt know there were bears up in madisonville area. thought they were all out east. i really miss hog hunting down in florida so if you have a backup list of help, id be all for it
  20. i got mine from petsmart i believe. quick ggogle search brings up much better options. i think i should have done alot more research before i bought, but then again i wasnt sure how it would work out the first time either. look at ruffwear.com or wolfpacks.com
  21. i regularly take my GSDs out in the woods on hikes with me. they both regularly carry a pack like the OP showed. you cant get a whole lot of anything in those packs but my dogs dont mind them. i think of my dogs as early warning systems more than anything. they have proven themselves very protective of my wife, one appliance repair guy grabbed my wife and it was over shortly thereafter other than that, i dont expect too much from them in a survival situation. they will definately go with me but they will eat what i eat if necessary. they are pretty good at treeing every squirrel in the surrounding area so that may help. had one almost point on a deer while the other flanked it. was amusing to watch. would need alot more training to be useful as hunting dogs though.
  22. fort campbell is also a popular place to hunt for those in the area.
  23. ive had a p3at and a taurus 85 in the past. now i have a p238 and a glock 26. i pocket carry the glock 26 daily at work and will carry the p238 in the rare instances that i cant get the 26 in tighter fitted pants. may end up carrying the 238 more now that i am trying to get back into a 1911 and away from glocks.
