  1. i keep a small/medium sized back pack in my vehicle. the outer pockets are what most would keep in a versipack or similar but the main compartment has a change of clothes, goretex rain gear and layering clothes in the winter. mine is definitely more of a 3 day pack or get home bag. i do carry enough stuff in my pockets to almost require a man purse as well though. wallet, smart phone, lighter, swiss army knife, folding kershaw knife, keys have p38 can opener and fire steel, i ccw a glock 17 iwb with a bug in my pocket and a spare mag.
  2. anyone have a source for the food grade steel drums in middle TN? id like to get a few but the only solid source i can find is lexington container company and thats a 4hr drive each way. any help would be greatly appreciated.
  3. last year i stored a bunch of stuff in freebie buckets from the walmart bakery. this week i will be repacking stuff in mylar bags with O2 absorbers finally. i get around 30-35lbs of white rice in a bucket, 25lbs of flour, same for sugar, and my beans are a mix of red kidney beans, great northern beans and split peas. id like to also find a local source for wheat berries instead of the flour i currently store. as far as bugs go, i have only had problems once and it was a store bought 5lb bag of flour. it had one weevil in the top of the bag that had long been dead. i keep a bit of mouse bait in my pantry on the floor and spray for insects at least twice a year but maybe more if the ants are bad.
  4. anyone do or know anyone who does gunkote, duracoat, ceracoat or similar in clarksville? id like to keep this project as close as possible?
  5. the white buckets at walmart are supposedly food grade for $2.xx in the paint section. also ive seen white buckets at home depot that were advertised as food grade. i get mine from the local walmart bakery, depending on which one of the ladies i speak to, i either get them free or for $1/ea. they are always cleaned out and smell like butter cream frosting. i wash them again with dish soap and let them dry for a few days. i have some newer ones that i use mylar in but my first dozen, i didnt use mylar and they are fine. thats what ive been rotating through this year. my next step is to get a few food grade steel drums for dry grain storage out in the garage.
  6. i think they changed it when they went from the older green laquered cases to the newer grey polymer coated cases.
  7. any chance this is leading up to another season? reruns this fast tend to
  8. anyone know if any local CO-OPs or anywhere else sell bulk food grains at decent prices? ive looked at ordering from the LDS cannery in the Nashville area but was wondering if there wasnt a local source that i would prefer to support? any farmmers sell it in bulk? looking for wheat or corn mostly. maybe some beans or others as well? ive been buying rice an dbeans and flour at Sams Club so far.
  9. i appreciate the offer. dont make it up there as often now that im not working around nashville anymore.
  10. wish i could find a local bobcat 9mm or other mp5 clone to handle before i just go and buy one. really like the SBRs above. i am getting my form1 and fingerprint cards together to send in my first stamp paperwork. going to SBR my AR15 and run a 10.5 upper.
  11. thanks for reminding me to program the DVR. first time i saw the previews, i couldnt set it to record yet and forgot to come back to it.
  12. i think many people over worry about the hardness of steel cases. ive heard some claim that it would tear up a chammber etc... but steel comes it all types of alloys and im almost certain that steel cased ammo isnt as hard as barrrel steel so it should not do any damage.
  13. wolf works fine in my rifles too. make sure you get the grey poly stuff and not the green laquer stuff and you should be fine. i buy mine from AIMsurplus.com for 185/k.
  14. i think i saw a couple in Allens gunshop here in clarksville last time i was in, last week i think.
  15. http://shop.gregmcgeeengineering.com/C3-907-170-Lumen-002.htm hands down the best flashlights ive ever had, yes thats plural because i like them so much i have multiples, is the MTE C3-907. it uses a single AA battery, rated at 170 lumens, multiple strobe and high/med/low settings, and only $25. i liked this over others i looked at because you dont have to cycle through all of the settings to get on or off. 1 solid click on and 1 solid click off. press the tailcap 1/2 in to get it to cycle. when turned on, it always returns to high so no memory problems if needed for SD. i got this light on the recommendation from a guy i trust very much and love it. i dont get anything from advertising for them at all. i currently have 2 and 2 more on the way. here is a pic of my EDC stuff i took for another thread.
  16. i shoot wolf 62gr HP in my AR from AimSurplus. its not brass but my rifle feeds it and its right at $.20 shipped. it actually is more accurate in my rifle than the federal xm193.
  17. this is my current deer rifle. its a remington 700 AAC-SD, 20" .308, with a millett TRS-1 scope, weaver 20moa base and rings.
  18. watched a couple episodes today off of the dvr. not bad but not really interesting either.
  19. i had a similar issue with a 5R milspec i purchased used because the guy couldnt get the first box through it. turned out to be a small brass sliver in or around the extractor claw. picked it out with a dental pick and it works fine. this doesnt allow the round to seat on the bolt properly and i was forcing the round into the chamber. felt almmost exactly like trying to push a round i forgot to trim into the chamber.
  20. i recently got a price on land out in the woodlawn area down dotsonville road and its not what id still consider cheap.
  21. is it at all possible for non members to just buy the bulk 25# bags? i usually store my stuff in 5G buckets but they have some items i cant easily find locally.
  22. i use a Possum Hollow manual trimmer and place my brass in a cordless drill chuck. the PH trimmer trims to minimum length. then i use the Lee deburring tool. i dont think the deburring tool would take much, if any off of the length but ive never measured before and after. i just take off the burrs. dont really take much off.
  23. If i read the regs right, i believe it is legal to hunt whitetails in TN with a .223. Please correct me if I'm wrong. How many here hunt with a .223? If so, what bullets do you use? I do have a .308 bolt gun as well that I prefer to hunt with but I also believe all of my guns should have a purpose, so if only to give it a purpose, I'd like to hunt with it, even if only once to say i did. The gun in question is a Stag AR-15 carbine with a 1:9" twist so id be limited to 69gr or less, at least thats as heavy as I've tested.
  24. i keep a couple cases of bottled water and 6 or 7 5G water cooler type bottles in my office for immediate use. i used to store water in reused 2L bottles but my wife didnt like the idea of them under the couch and beds when she was cleaning i also have 6 55G rain barrels all set up on the backside of my house to stay hidden from plain view. these are primarily going to be garden water or non-potable water use for toilet flushing and such until i get a berky filter or similar. lately i picked up a 275G food grade tote up in goodlettsville and tossed it in my garage full of city water. i will be adding a second one soon.
