  1. I've been with Regions since they were Leader Federal who was bought out by Union Planters, who became Regions. I recently closed my small personal checking account. When I closed the account, the guy waiting on me had to fill out a form and asked why I was closing my account. I told him I was supporting "Occupy My Street", or in other words, I'm trying to keep the money in my home so I can continue to occupy 'my street'. I'm glad to learn most of the banks will be dropping the fee, but let's not kid ourselves, they will find another source of income via some sort of convenience/service fee some place else. It's not personal, it's just business.
  2. Correct. Proof of U.S. Citizenship or "Lawful Permanent Residency" is all that is required.
  3. I got one for my Glock 26 back a little over a month ago. it's a great product. Tommy Theis is a great guy to do business with. I ordered mine from him and received it in about five days. I've owned a CrossBreed and a Kholster, both are great holsters, but for the money and time for delivery, you can't beat Theis. I highly recommend him.
  4. Welcome from another Memphis member! Looks like your boys may be favored in the Egg Bowl this year...
  5. while you're at it, be sure to mention in the ad that you're seeking crack smoking, anti-gun, transgendered cross-dressers who like to dress up like Liza Minnelli. that should pretty much even up the score with the former roommates.
  6. From reading the play by play, it is far more likely than not the folks who complained to the security at the mall called you in. They probably called the police and reported a man with a gun. They probably gave the dispatcher your description, tag number, and your direction of travel. Upon receiving that call, the cops have no alternative but to pull you over and see what's up. Since the security cop at the mall dealt with you reasonably professionally, I doubt he would have an ax to grind past his conversation with you. Maybe before getting to the mall you unknowingly cut someone off in traffic, and they decided to get even with you once they saw your pistol while you were getting out of the car. No disrespect intended, but maybe they thought you appeared too young to be able to have a permit, and thought the police needed to know about you. Just a thought.
  7. IBL... wait,...huh?..oh, never mind...
  8. For punching paper, the larger gun would be more fun for me than the smaller one. The 9mm will be cheaper to shoot if that's a consideration. If money is not a concern as far as ammo, is there a reason you would choose .40 over .45? I'd take the same money and buy a nice used .45. If we're just shooting to blow stuff up, let's get the .45 and make some really big arse holes!!!
  9. The best advice I've ever received was, if you see someone commit a crime, call the police and be a good witness. If while you are a busy being a good witness things escalate and your life, or that of another person becomes in peril, the situation has now changed and the light is now green for self defense. Better to be a poor witness than a good defendant. My HCP did not come with a badge or any blue lights for my car.
  10. So, let me make sure I'm getting all this straight. You live in an apartment complex which does not allow firearms. Prior to obtaining your new gun, you go to them and discussed having a permit and wanting them to make an exception to the lease agreement for you, which they originally agreed, but then reneged and have no memory of discussing. Your roommates see you carrying your gun, and then turned you in to the apartment management for possessing the gun in the complex. They have agreed to allow you to stay there, but the gun must remain locked in your vehicle. You then go to your school police department and ask if you can bring part of a gun in your car to school property? They tell you to go pound sand, and you cannot bring any part of the gun to campus with you? My concern is too many people know your business. If they're nosey and looking through keyholes and tapping your phones and such, it's one thing, but I think you're becoming your own worse enemy. From the beginning, you clearly knew that the apartment complex had a no gun clause in the lease, otherwise, you would have never had the first conversation with them about making a special allowance for you since you have a permit. This is like apartments which do not allow pets, and you go out and tell them you're buying a cat, but since you work at the animal shelter they say they'll make an exception just for you, but then when they learn you have a cat, it's a problem and they no longer remember talking to you about exceptions? Honestly, it all boils down to you knew they did not allow guns before you got yours. You tried to persuade them to make an exception, they agreed, but then no longer remember the agreement. As someone has pointed out, if it's not written on paper and signed by both parties, it never happened. The real answer, Wyatt? Man up. Do the right thing. Either move to another place where you can keep the gun, or take the gun and leave it where it can be secured until you can afford to move. This is similar to the advice we get here all the time about guns at the workplace when you know it's not allowed and you can lose your job if you get caught. Big Boy Rules apply. You have to realize that you are responsible for what is happening, not the apartment folks, not your roommates, not the cops at MTSU, but the guy you see in the mirror every morning. The sooner you come to grips with the fact you made a mistake, the better this will be to take. Will it make you happy? No. But I think it will make you a better person if you've learned to accept that you control your life, not other people. Good luck getting this all sorted out, and be sure next time that you know what you can and can't have in an apartment. And next time, remember the fewer people who know you have a handgun, the better off you will be. My apologies if I've come across in anyway too harsh with my response to your thread. Best.
  11. my brother and I had a very similar conversation this weekend while at my son's wedding reception in the in-law's back yard. he has been on the job for two different agencies for well over 20 years now. he said he didn't get the young guys who carry all the time off duty. I just smiled, smoked my cigar, and nodded...all the while my S&W 642 was sitting nicely tucked away in the Galco Ankle Glove...
  12. Thanks. What is really amazing is how much the office of President ages these men. Bush looked much, much older at the end of his second term. The pressures of the day to day must be almost unbearable at times.
  13. I had not seen this before, but with the World Series starting last night, my brother sent me this link. Got to admit I had a big lump in my throat at the end. Enjoy! President Bush's Opening Pitch at Yankee Stadium After 9-11 [High Quality] - YouTube
  14. Welcome from Memphis, "Tennessee's Official Home of Questionable Areas"...
  15. +1. I've owned the PF9 and my brother in law recently bought an LC9 which we took shooting on Sunday. The PF9 is a much more finished and appears to be a more reliable gun. The PF9s can be picky about ammo, although his LC9 began to experience some failures to eject with the cheap Russian ammo. I think the PF9 has a better trigger, but the trigger guard is almost too small for my big o' fat fingers. That said, the Ruger retails about $100 more, so the question then becomes is it worth the price difference?
  16. I just got started watching this season. My step-daughter who just moved back in with us is a big fan. She and I watched season three on NetFlix and I sort of got caught up. She also heard the crack of the tree limb and the body hit the ground, so apparently his effort to off himself failed. For what it's worth, I also wondered if this was the last season, that it appears the show is headed to a finale, but she insists they were originally given a seven year contract. Now where she came up with that information is beyond me, but she's much more tuned into that kind of stuff than I am, so....
  17. Ahhhh!!! Sounds like a good plan my friend. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
  18. Like someone else has said, I'd take the lump sum instead of the annuities they usually want to pay you. Take the money up front and pay the taxes then 15% goes to the church and assorted charities. Next I'd pay off my debt and my kids student loans. Probably fix up all the things my wife wants fixed around the house, but we love the house so I can't see selling. Take the entire family on that nice two week long vacation that I've been promising myself we'd take, no place too outrageous, but someplace nice where I can get some beach time. I'd buy all the guns I've wanted for so long but just never could justify spending the money. Buy some land where I can go and build a cabin for weekends with a lake stocked with fish, and deer in the woods. Build my own shooting range out there, maybe something like what Hickok45 has, I really like what I've seen of his place on the videos. And strange as it may sound, I'd go back to work doing just what I do now. I think the financial freedom would make the job a little more satisfying. If I got tired of the job, I'd have the ability to give my two weeks and never look back, or have to worry about putting food on the table, or paying the mortgage and the light bill.
  19. If you're interested in Criminal Justice, our fair city of Memphis is the place to be. We have plenty of criminals, and we need more justice. If I was your dad, I'd suggest you go ahead and get a job working as a police officer now, with the education you already have. Most local police departments will hire with your background right now. Why not see if the job is for you first, before you spend a lot more money on getting your masters, then taking an entry level position at $28,000 a year as a patrolman to work your way up the line. Most police departments don't hire guys to be anything but beat cops. Your going to be way over educated for the job by the time you finish grad school and you may not want to work for the money they are going to offer. Join the force now and see what it's like day to day. I was a reserve sheriff deputy for 8 years, and my brother is a cop. we both know some good people who thought they wanted to be cops, only to find out they did not really like the job once they started doing it for a living. Sorry for the hijack. Now back to your original question, I would think Cookeville would be better employment wise, being located between Nashville and Knoxville, as someone else pointed out. Big cities have more turn over and better chances of employment in your chosen field. Smaller departments are less likely to hire frequently and will probably pay less money.
  20. Well said. Based upon all the edicts of the current administration, I think a lot of us have forgotten how the founding fathers intended this country to work with three separate but independent branches of power, how laws would be created, and why the checks and balances were put there in the first place. Nice to be reminded a President can't just make law whenever he decides to. After all, we still elect a President, not a King.
  21. I see what you're talking about, but I'm not sure if he's just being coy, or if he just does not want Gregory to paint him into a corner. As Cain said, he's not comfortable with labels. That's probably not a terrible answer for a guy giving an interview in what he perceives as a hostile environment. I'm in the same place with Cain. He has a lot about him that I like, but I honestly don't know enough about him to get a tingle up my leg just yet. I do not know his position on The Fed, some have pointed out he worked for The Fed for some years, but I'm not sure if that alone is enough to disqualify him from my consideration. I think Cain paired with Newt Ginrich as VP might be an interesting combination, if he's willing to listen to some of Newt's insight into how to get the right things accomplished in a hurry.
  22. Thanks to the OP for posting this, as I had not seen any of it. I also find it very interesting that both the main stream media and the Republican establishment are already saying the race belongs to Romney. It seems to me the race still has a long way to go before it's over, but maybe both of these two groups have something to gain by convincing the rest of us that no one but Romney can win, so don't waste your money or your votes. Our country needs serious, substantial change, not more of the same, even if it comes from a Republican like Romney. Romney in my opinion, is just a version of Obama-lite, a RINO. If Romney gets the nomination, I would be interested to see a third party candidate if for no other reason than to be able to vote without holding my nose this time.
  23. When I bought my 642 from TGO member SeaSlug the sale included the Galco Ankle Glove. I had previously carried a Kel-Tec P3AT and Ruger LCP in an Uncle Mikes with some success, but I have found the Galco to be a much more secure holster than the Uncle Mikes. My experience is very similar to everyone who posted above, it's better than not carrying at all, and it takes some getting used to having the extra weight on one leg. That being said, it is very handy if you're driving or seated for extended periods of time. I prefer pocket carry, but I'd actually say that ankle carry has become a close second choice. I also agree with the previous poster who recommended a retention strap for the P238, but that's because I'm assuming you will be carrying in condition one.
  24. lol, although I'm not much of a photographer, I'm pretty sure I'd like to see her wearing an IWB with this outfit!!!
