I wouldnt take it apart other than a field strip. There are a lot of good ARs built by do-it-yourselfers. Clean it, a bit of CLP and do a function test (Run a few rounds thru it using the charging handle), maybe a dry fire or 2. If it passes the function test, shoot it. Get on this forum and AR15.com and do a little reading and you'll figure it all out. Start here: Maintenance & Cleaning - AR15.COM

Sounds fun. I would love to attend.

Jay1313g: are you the one with the boy that had the 10/22 bullpup? If so, i loved that bullpup. That boy looked like he was having a good time.

To Jackdm3: sunday afternoon is good for me as well. To eapking: Yep, reload is $30. Good idea. We probably could get a few of scheduled for a reload.

I have been dreaming of a 9mm AR SBR lately. your build has not helped. It looks like a fun build.

We are also talking about a Force on Force class at Range USA in August. The Force on Force requires the self denfense handgun as a prerequisite. Self Defense Handgun: Street Handgun - Level I Force on Force: http://www.rangeusa.com/Training/RangeUSAUniversity/StreetSurvivalSchool/StreetHandgunLevelIV/tabid/67/Default.aspx Reload is only $30: http://www.rangeusa.com/Training/RELOAD/tabid/279/Default.aspx

That was fun. It was nice to put real names and faces with the screen names. Thanks Jack for suggesting this. I hope we can get together in the future.

I agree with ohshoot. If she didnt like the tcp recoil, she wont like the .38 +p. go to a range with rentals and let her try several out. I still think a bigger .380 or a mid size 9mm is the best choice. page 2 pwnage.

1 day left bump FYI: Tomorrow RUSA may be very busy depending on how many classes they are having and regular traffic. Once we get there, if it is to busy, we may be able to drive around the corner to the TWRA range on Brother Blvd. TWRA Hunter Education and Range Facility Fee required. Located at 3200 Brother Blvd. Contact Sam Murrey at (901) 213-3124. Hours: Tuesday (12:00 PM - 9:00 PM), Wednesday & Thursday (11:00 AM - 9:00 PM), and Saturday (9:00 AM - 4:30 PM). Closed on Sunday, Monday, and Friday. Indoor 25-yard range open to the public. No shotguns or center-fire rifles. $8.50 (single lane), $12.50 for shared lane (max. of 2 people in shared lane). Cash or check only. No ammunition for sale. All guns must be in a case before entering the facility. No holstered weapons, regardless of concealed weapon permit. That sucks. Directions: From I-40, take the Appling Road Exit. Proceed north on Appling Road and cross over Stage Road. Approximately 800 yards on the right side you will see a service road. There is a green Hunter Education sign on the light pole. The service road is right after the green sign. link: Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - Firing Ranges I have no idea how many lanes they have.

Some local AR15.com members are trying to get a class scheduled in June with Ben Goldstein, Isreali Combat Training. Israeli Combat Training, anyone? - AR15.COM

I would suggest a good intermediate handgun class based on shooting fundementals. Grip and trigger pull was my problem. The class fixed all my issues. If i concentrate on fundementals my groups are centered.

Me to, i'll be there with my new Browning Buckmark camper. It needs to be broke in. Don't forget the secret handshake.

I saw the article and the i was thinking the same as I_Like_Pie. The first thing i thougth was, that would be a great carbine round. .327 mag lever?
-
really? not just yes, H... yes!!! Actually, any yardage outdoor range would be great that is affordable. Are you teasing us or do you have some info?
-
That is a dern good point. I love my AR and have been thinking about building a SBR. I will now weigh the option of a bull pup.

I have got a couple of email replies from Ronin Combat Strategies today and i visited their web site. They seem to have it together and they arent to expensive. RCS are in Crawfordsville. But i thought T1G was real expensive. T1G has a seperate web site. I am not sure if they are the same, they may be.

About 15 of us took a private Self Defense Handgun class at RUSA with Chip Holland. We shot around 500 rounds in about 6 hrs. Chip ran us thru many different drills and there was a lot of discussion about scenarios and such. Almost the entire class time was in the range. We had the big range to ourselves all day. RUSA treated us very good. I can't say enough how good this class was. There are some pics here: Range USA | Facebook The SDHG class requires that you atleast have taken the permit class. SDHG class qualifies you to take other SSS (Street Survival School) trainging classes. I would suggest taking the SDHG, then you could join us in the other classes. Maybe some of the TGO guys could take the class as a group. Talk to Chip about a private class. We can talk more Sat. I will be there for a while.

Range USA is great for practice and training. They also have some matches. But the private ranges will have more matches, different types of lanes, targets, poppers, steel plates, etc. They compliment each other. But you should be able to keep your skills with a public range. After you get more into shooting you will be like us and want to have access to a nice outdoor range.

get her something like a big Ruger P89. lol. Big and heavy. Once she gets used to the idea of shooting, down size her gun.
-
The TCPs and LCPs are just small and are a handfull for a most men. Maybe a Walther .380. They are a little bigger and heavier. I would move her up to a 9mm. Maybe the Taurus 709 slim or the Walther PPS. The PPS is a little hevier so it is easier to shoot. A Kahr PM9, KT PF9 or most of the .380s will be to light and will be difficult for her to shoot. If it is solely a carry gun, then she shouldn't worry to much about it, unless it scares her to shoot it. The TCP isnt a range gun. Too small and light for a lot of range time.
