  1. I left my carry gun in the room safe when I stayed there last. No one asked me about firearms etc., and I never mentioned it. I did not feel a need to try to carry in the park, besides I like rollercoasters and the rest of the wild rides and a gun is a pain to carry on them!
  2. Thanks! Makes me feel like a woos, but a proud woos!
  3. CHRPC has it's monthly IDPA match Saturday May 15. Safety meeting at 9:30, hammer down at 10:00. We will have 5 stages, which may be previewed at IDPA, 3GUN, Information, Reviews and Training - Team rangeissafe.com Hope to see you there, the stages look great!
  4. Friends with machineguns are better than regular friends too! I sold both mine several years ago, and get my "fix" with a buddies M16 every so often.
  5. thanks, SUNTZU, That is a pretty good list, most of those items are light, and traveling light would be important. Being creative is important too, if you forgot the boresnake and CLP you could make do with a shoe string and piece of gauze,t shirt etc. and if there are cars around you can oil a gun off a dip stick. This has got me thinking though, I've kept a bag in my trunk for years, I need to change it to a day pack. I'll start tonight getting it together, and see what I have and what it ultimately weighs. I think the tarp and rain gear could could be the interchangeable, to save weight. Not picking nits here, but I'm 46, and while in pretty good shape, a 25 mile hike would be a long walk. I learned from hiking in the days of my youth that an ounce can turn into a pound on long hike.
  6. How about a list of things to put in a "get home" bag? I live 25 miles from where I work, so I'm thinking if the roads were shut down to walk that far would require comfy shoes, water, energy bars, and clothes to fit the season, small basic first aid kit, I'm assuming we all would have our carry gun and at least a reload for it. What else would you want?
  7. In self defense shooting we only shoot to stop a threat, and shooting should be a last resort used when you are in fear of your life or the life of a third party. If the perpetrator dies as result of gunshot wounds, that is too bad.
  8. Exactly! It is the archer, not the arrow. I carry a 1911, in .45ACP, because I can use it. I would not feel under gunned with a 9mm though. Carry what you shoot well and pray you never need it.
  9. Really sorry Dude. On the bright side you can shoot mine all you want (as a "fix") until you get your very own 1911, there is no known cure for this addiction, I've "suffered" from it for over 25 yrs.
  10. Flitz metal polish should do the trick, on the stainless parts.

    New .45

I voted for the Springfield SS loaded. I have one that has over 20,000 rds through it, and is a great 1911. I have used and abused it in IDPA, and it has never let me down. All .45s should be 1911s, anything else is just a bullet launcher!
  12. There is a lot to be said for a j-Frame or similar size .38 too. They may be old school, but have good stopping power in a small, and very reliable package. That is my choice when I can't carry a "real" gun.
  13. Yep! Me too, can't beat 'em!
  14. Shooting IDPA and practicing for the same is one of my favorite hobbies, hence gunsablazin.
  15. No badges! If the state of TN wanted us to carry badges they would have issued us one with our permit. It is too close to impersonating a police officer to carry one, IMO. I carry a full size 1911 OWB under a vest or jacket and have done so for years, if anybody has ever noticed it they did not say a word.
  16. Free to good home. One like new Wilson Combat Magazine for an officer size 1911. In Chattanooga or Cleveland area. PM if you want it, first come first served.
  17. 1999, The year my first child was born, started doing a lot of things the legal way after that!
  18. 4/17. This coming Saturday CHRPC will have their monthly match. We will be shooting the IDPA classifier in bay 1, and have four stages in bays 2-5. The classifier requires 90 rds. The cost is $10.00 and you may shoot the classifier and the stages or skip the classifier if you wish. the safety meeting is at 9:30 and we go hammer down at 10:00. This saturday is also my birthday, so feel free to bring me a gift if you like. I'll take cash, ammo, guns or gift cards! thanks in advance!
  19. Chattanooga Rifle Club on Hunter rd. does a Sunday practical pistol match, it is not officially an IDPA club, but the rules etc. are similar. I have not shot there in a long while, but the guys running it are good people to shoot with.
  20. Shoot or ride, choose only one.If you are moving, distance will give you more safety than shooting. Accurately firing from a moving motorcycle, and controlling the bike at the same time would be very iffy, at best.
  21. I usually either stick my 649 in my back pocket or use my Fobus holster when on my scooter. To the OP, no your gun is very unlikely to fire due to a crash.
  22. Of the two I'd take the M&P, but I think a Glock is better still......IMHO
  23. Practical-shmactical! That looks like FUN! If they won't let you shoot it at ORSA, bring it to Cleveland, I'll let you shoot it there. if I get a turn!
