  1. Most local matches are 100 rds. or less, the match at Cleveland this Sat. will use a minimum of 61, bring 150 rds. and you will have plenty in the case of a reshoot on a stage etc. If you have your pistol, 3 mags. eye and ear protection and a concealment vest you should be good to go. It is a good idea to bring some water or snacks etc. We do a new shooter briefing at 9:30, if it's your first match be there for that. We will start setting up the stages around 8:00-30, you are welcome to come early and help set up, this will give you the opportunity to check out the stages and meet some of the regulars. All shooters should remember that safety is the first priority, whether it's your first match or your 500th match, so don't worry about being a newbie, all of us old hands were newbies at one time too, just be safe and have fun! Let your Safety Officer know it's your first match and he or she will give you any extra help you need. Robin

  3. FMJ is fine. We shoot outdoors, and what steel targets are used are at a minimum of 12 yds. away and are designed to withstand FMJ ammo fired from handguns.
  4. We have five good stages to shoot this coming Saturday! 3/20 the party starts at 10:00 am.
  5. This is the truth. My .45ACP loads are about $7.50 a box, but I shoot alot of them!
  6. Where are we? At matches in our area for IPSC, IDPA, Steel Challenge, 3-Gun, SASS, Sporting Clays, Skeet Shooting etc. You guys who are interested in competition, Please come out and play with us, there are matches somewhere of some sort every weekend. We need more shooters, at our last IDPA match in Cleveland we had 41 shooters, not bad, but surely there are more folks in the area who shoot than that. If you have nor shot at a local club match, give it a try!
  7. No offense intended, just stating my opinion.
  8. To each their own, but a "snubby .38" would not be a first choice for home defense, and I shoot one pretty well. If you have better options why not use them? I have a friend who has a carry permit, and a nice collection of good defensive pistols, Glocks, 1911s etc. and he carries(when he carries) a Taurus .25, I don't get that at all and I have told him so. He is afraid of getting one of his better guns stolen etc. I agree with locking up your guns, I do the same, but if I need to get between a bad guy and my wife and children, I want something more than a snubby. My:2cents:
  9. I've never taken one of Dodds classes, but I have known him and competed with him for years. He is a very fine fellow, and his teaching credentials are pretty impressive. If he teaches half as well as he shoots I'd say you would get your moneys worth.
  10. I voted no that's crazy, but I keep one in my car, one at work, several at home. My EDC knife is a small Gerber folder and I think of it as a tool I use at work, not as a weapon. If I were to carry a knife as a weapon it would be a fixed blade, a folder is about like carrying a pistol with the chamber empty.
  11. Glad you like your Kimber! Sounds like another 1911 addict has been born! Get the 5" gun soon, there is no cure, but having more 1911's eases the shakes!

    h&k usp 45?

Good move! Then you will have two great pistols.

    h&k usp 45?

I'm a dyed in the wool 1911 guy so my advice is slightly biased. Keep your 1911! H&K USP pistols make nice door stops however.
  14. I'm not a huge fan of "mouse guns', but I got a chance to shoot one of those last weekend and was impressed with its "shootability". It felt good, looked good and most importantly shot where it looked. Nice little pistol, I hope you enjoy yours!
  15. They are hard to beat for the money. I have a SS Loaded model that I have been thrashing in IDPA for four years and thousands of rounds. The only part that has broken was the firing pin spring and the gun has been very reliable. I don't think you'll go wrong with a Springfield 1911.
  16. You really can't go wrong either way, they will both do the job. I voted for the 19 because ammo for practice will be cheaper, if you reload that isn't an issue.
  17. When shooting from cover you must engage the targets as you see them, from the outermost to the innermost targets. If you were to draw it on paper it would appear as "pie slices" If you want to shoot on saturday look me up and shoot in my squad, I'll be happy to show you the ropes. Robin "gunsablazin" M.
  18. IDPA at Cleveland Rifle Club this Sat. Hammer down at 10:00 am. The stages are up on IDPA, 3GUN, Information, Reviews and Training - Team rangeissafe.com If you can make it out around 8:30-9:00 or so to help set up that would be great! Directions to the club are at Welcome To Cleveland Hunting, Rifle and Pistol Club Hope to see you there!
  19. I don't think they shoot there anymore.
  20. Ah yes, the .45GAP another fine solution looking for a problem to solve..... Smoke 'em if you've got 'em
  21. AR15, it will do anything that needs doing and has a lot more reach than a 12g.

    Kel Tec PMR-30

looks like fun to me too! If it turns out to be a reliable pistol I'll have to have one to plink with.
  23. Portability and ease of use in tight quarters is the main reason for the M4. You will get a littler bit more velocity from the rifle length barrel, and the rifle is heavier as well. For most civilian uses the rifle length AR would do just fine. I prefer the M4 to the long gun primarily for its looks, I just like 'em. If you don't want to spring for a whole rifle you could buy an upper that suits your needs, then you would have the best of both worlds, a tack driver for the range and a tactical rifle for Mall Ninja duty.
  24. 1911 in .45ACP, It is my carry gun anyway and I see no reason to change guns for a trip to the woods. I have been in close contact with wild hogs, and a couple of bears over the years and have never felt threatened by them in anyway, still a .45 is a nice thing to have along.
  25. IWB, if you need it, you'll need it PDQ
