My first plane ride was on a Bonanza, nice plane! I flew some many years ago, not a good hobby for the working poor though! Now I fly low and slow on a Harley. Welcome to TGO

Hi! ET45, Its not that the Glock is a bad pistol, far from it! I still have one, but as you say the all steel 1911 has its own feel. I'll always be a 1911 guy at heart. I'm going to get another Mil-Spec or a plain GI gun to carry.Hopefully it will never be used for its intended purpose anyway, so 9 rds. on tap should be plenty. I will admit though, if I were knowingly going into harms way I would carry the Glock to back up my AR. If anybody knows where there is a nice used 1911 for sale please PM me. (I'm looking to spend around $400-450))

I have a Kel-Tec .32 that I pocket carry. I trust mine to function properly if needed. as far as accuracy goes I have made center of mass hits out to 25 yds., and that is way farther than these guns were intended to be used. As a last ditch close up carry gun, you could do a lot worse. IMHO

I have carried 1911's off and on for years, some stock guns and some with all the bells and whistles. My current carry gun is a Springfield Loaded model with adjustable sights, ambi safety, magwell etc. I started carrying it when I sold my Mil-Spec gun to help finance a motorcycle purchase, and I don't consider it an ideal carry gun, it is my pistol of choice for IDPA and does that nicely. I am considering a GI gun for my next CCW because it will have small snag free sights, and none of the do-dads I like on a competition gun. In its most basic form it served our soldiers well on the battlefield for 60 years or so, and would seem to me that it would get the job done nicely for daily carry. Does anyone see any flaws in my choice? If so what would you want instead? (I have carried a Glock and don't want another) Please stick to 1911s.

He should have Ted Nugent as a partner, now that could get interesting!

I think I got the gist of it, but could one of our lawyer types translate that into "old country boy" language so I can be sure?

I have two Dillon 550s' and an RCBS single station. The Dillon presses are hard to beat. My old odest 550 is 24 years old and the new one is 2. While loading some .40s this weekend on the old press a small bracket cracked, I just got off the phone with Dillons customer service and my new part is on the way, at no cost, Dillon even pays the shipping. I don't know of many companies that stand behind their products like that. When you are ready to upgrade to a progressive press I would say buy Dillon!

How many here have read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand? I see the John Galt slogan on the various gun forums, and I wonder how many have bothered to read the book it came from. It is a great book if you have the time on your hands to get through it, it took about the first 400 pages or so before it took off and grabbed me, then I could not put it down. Rand has an almost superhuman insight, the book was written in 1957 and reads like it could have been done last month.

Another vote for the 1911. John Moses Browning got it right when he designed the grip on that gun.

Howdy, and welcome to TGO.

There has been a serious primer shortage for sometime now. I heard a rumor that Wideners has Wolf primers in stock, you might look there. Good luck.

Soaked my rolling papers on a canoe trip years ago, and in desperation made a functional pipe from a coke can. Probably not useful info for most TGOers and I no longer errr, roll my own either!

Thanks Grout, somebody needs to keep me grounded! To the question about training before a match, if you have solid SAFE gun handling skills you will enjoy an IDPA match, if you like the game and want to progress in skill faster there are instructors in the area that can help you on your way a little faster. Trust me when I say, as a safety officer, we are more interested in safety than your ability to blaze through a course of fire. New shooters are more than welcome and if you let your SO know you are a newbie they will give you a little more attention. We all shot our first match at some point and know how it feels to be a "newbie".

You guys are going to give me the "big head' Besides, I "coach" for free!

Check it for yourself, but I think TN permits are good in Nevada. The Casinos frown on packing, as far as I know. I have not been in years, but if you are staying in the tourist parts of town and don't stray from the main drag you will most likely not need a weapon. The security in Vegas is top notch and if you pulled a gun on the strip or in a casino the security people would probably shoot you pretty quick. My advice would be go, have a great time and leave your gun at home. If you truly feel the need for a weapon buy a can of pepper spray when you arrive and toss it before flying home. Enjoy your trip, Vegas is fun town!

So where did all of us go on the 14th?

Chop House in Chattanooga. Fantastic prime rib and salad, washed it down with a Coke, delicious! No shots fired, and I don't think anyone noticed I was carrying a Mil Spec 1911. Amazing, law abiding citizens, armed, in the presence of the devil alcohol and still no one was killed. It will be nice when the hand wringing and other silliness on the part of our local elected officials quieten down, I'm certain a pattern of non-events will follow the passage of these laws and it will stop being a hot news item soon. -
That is a fine looking pistol, to say the very least. The 1911 is my favorite pistol, I carry and compete with them and enjoy them at the range, but I don't own one any where near as pretty as that one!

I'm with Randy on this one, I'm pretty skilled with a pistol, but I am not a "badass" of any sort. Personally I'm not willing to kill or get killed over a car radio, etc. The recommendation to think before doing something that may not be such a great idea is pretty sound if you ask me.
