Kind of like watching a dancing bear, with a 1911! -
Ever watch Jason Edwards & Mark Dye IDPA
gunsablazin replied to a topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
Or if you would like to see how it looks in slow motion, I'll be shooting IDPA in Cleveland tomorrow. -
$10 to shoot you can watch for free, bring your pistol, shooting is more fun than watching! Also "open to the public" means non members may shoot the match,NOT use the other range facilities.

I belong to a nice range in Cleveland, no waiting list to get in and its a great facility. It will be open to the public this coming Saturday for our monthly IDPA match come out and look it over and shoot the match with us if you like. The match fee is $10.00, and we try to get shooting around 10:00am.

I like the plain jane GI. The sights on the Mil Spec are bigger and maybe better, but they snag more on clothing etc. if you can see pretty well the little sights on the GI are fine, at typical self defense distances it won't make much, if any difference. I don't think you will get a better gun for your money with either pistol. I carry a GI everyday and use it as my primary home defense gun as well, I trust my and my families life on it, that is as high a praise as I can give a gun. If you do your part the GI will do its.

I have had feeding problems with Rainier plated bullets, they are very soft lead under the copper plating, I love them for revolvers however. I have been using Precision polymer coated bullets in my 1911's and .40 Glock for several years and they feed extremely well, the coating makes the bullet as slick butter and they are relatively clean as well. Precision will sell you a small sample pack to test, which is nice because you get to test them in your pistol for little money.

Are you still allowing the SA class? I might like to run the pistol bay stages with my 1911 if you are. I could use some long range practice too, but will the round count be too much for a muzzle loader?

TGO world record intro! Welcome to TGO. I'm of Irish descent myself, I'm from East TN I like guns, banjo music and long canoe trips in the wilderness, but I'm not a racist!

While it is, no doubt a very fine little gun, it's way too pretty to carry!

ORSA in Oak Ridge has a 1,000 yd. range.

No way! Not shooting that funky plastic thing you use for an avatar!

Thoughts on mac 10 in 9mm?
gunsablazin replied to jeffmem's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
Most likely the best $200.00 SMG that you can buy for $3,500.00 -
+1, Besides we are scattered all over the state, ORSA has a great range and hosts IDPA, IPSC, Cowboy action, etc. I belong to CHRPC in Cleveland we have IDPA, 3-Gun, and Cowboy action. These matches are open to the public and cost $10.00 each match to shoot. Everyone is welcome including of course TGO members. Chattanooga Rifle Club has several match days including blackpowder events etc. There are plenty of places to compete and have fun all over our part of the country, if you want to give it a try you will be made more than welcome. TGO is a great forum and a nice place to learn about shooting, guns, reloading etc. and I have met some very fine folks through here, but if you want to compete get out to your nearest range and go for it!

Does anyone have any info on the Cobra derringers? I'm wanting a small last ditch hideout gun, and I want more power than a .380, .32 etc. If these guns are decently made I believe one in .38 spl would do nicely for what I have in mind. I shot some Davis made guns in .22 mag and .25 acp and they both malfunctioned, that is not too good! I had an American Arms derringer in 9mm, and it was very well made, but it got confiscated by my wife.

I always carry a spare reload, an 8 rd Wilson mag for my 1911 or a speed strip for my J frame. With any luck I will never have to use my gun at all, but if I do I hope to have more ammo than I need. I carry the spare mag in an Uncle Mikes' single mag pouch, it is plastic and open top, makes for a quick reload. I use the same gear for IDPA, so I stay sharp using them. I shot a match recently with the 5 shot J frame .38 using speed strips to reload, that is a real eye opener about what you can and cannot do with a snubby. The shooting part is fine, but the reloading is slow.

There is a mandatory safety recall out on these pistols, you guys who own them will want to look into that. The info is on Sigs web site.

IDPA at CHRPC - any chance it'll be rained out?
gunsablazin replied to a topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
No the idiots will shoot in the rain, snow, sleet, freezing rain, etc. I have seen one match stopped due to a thunderstorm cell that was right on top of the range. I will not be joining my fellow idiots tomorrow due to a family Christmas event, but they will be there in full force. As the late great David Manning once said "my gun works fine in the rain" -
When will this "man stopper" be available?
-
I've always been a little bit recoil sensitive and the blast and recoil of the mighty .25ACP has in my opinion always seemed like overkill, who really needs that much stopping power anyway. I'm glad Ruger is bringing out a sensible EDC gun. I can only hope it will be magna ported to allow quicker follow up shots and/transitions for multiple BG scenarios.

I miss shooting my AR with the price of .223 and the fact it is a pain, compared to pistol rounds to reload I've not had it out in months. I looked one of these S&W .22s over at Fugates last weekend and wondered how folks liked them, well this thread answered that question! As a fun range toy it looks like it would be hard to beat, time to start saving my pennies again!

looks like you got yourself a nice little blaster there! Enjoy.

I lean towards the Springfields myself. I have owned several of them and my current IDPA pistol is a SS Loaded model. I'm not knocking Taurus or RIA guns, but I have not shot them, but with Springfields reputation for great customer service and the fact that they build a solid pistol makes it a good choice. The folks on the 1911 forums seem to generally rate the RIA guns as a good entry level pistol if you don't find the answers you need here check that forum out.

I can see me with the .45ACP version of one of those. A BUG with stopping power! I like it.
-
For a carry gun you may consider another Glock 26, you're already familiar with it and so is your wife, that could be a good thing. Then go get that 1911 etc. and enjoy shooting it too! With my plan you get more guns to play with, and still have two nice carry guns!

For the update. I shot it as SSR with a J-frame .38! Lousy score, but I had a ball shooting a snubby in an IDPA match.
