  1. I don't care for Damon's political views, but I'm going to see this movie today. IMHO, he is a first class actor, and I could care less what his politics are. I would draw the line if in the middle of the movie he stops acting and starts espousing his views. Barring that, I'll watch any movie he is in. I just don't understand all of the people that say "He's a lefty, I'm not watching his movie." It's not Micheal Moore spouting at you non-stop. But hey, to each their own.
  2. I talked to RRA, and they said it is normal to get a stair step worn into the cam. They said I should check the carrier for burrs, which I've done, and rotate the cam 180* for even wear. If the gouge gets worse, and does not smooth out into a stair step, then it needs to be replaced and the bolt needs to be looked at. They said I could send the rifle in to be looked at, but since Taurus has had my wife's PT709 for 6 weeks now (and saying the parts my take another 2 weeks to get), I declined at this point. I don't want my AR to be gone for 2 months. I'll keep a eye on it and update here after I shoot it again.
  3. OC became a topic (carrying in general) on Laura Ingram's radio show yesterday. I CC because I think that's best. Everyone else do what they think is best. That is all. Carry on.
  4. no macro on the camera...it's a older, cheap one. I'm gonna go hit up the gun shop for a new cam pin. I'd like to have a spare on hand, so I can replace it if i feel the gouge is getting too dangerous. I have checked the entire circumference of the pin with a eye loupe, and it isn't cracked.
  5. Yeah, it's just not gonna work with my camera. You can see the wear mark, but I can't get close enough to show the gouge. It is right in the center of the wear mark, following the same arc. It may be normal wear, and I just don't remember it.
  6. Tried to take a pic, but it came out really bad. Let me try again...
  7. I put a lot of rounds downrange in various settings, but that was back in the early 90's. Now I have my own AR (Rock River Arms CAR-A4) that I have put a few hundred rounds through, and I noticed something that I've never seen before when I cleaned it after my last range trip. I remember seeing a wear mark on the bolt cam pin that ran the full circumference on every AR I ever maintained. My AR has this wear mark, too, but on one side, there is a gouge in the center of the wear mark. It is only on the one side, and runs the enter length of the arc. It is about 1mm deep, and looks like something has dug in from the bottom, and pushed the metal towards the top of the cam. Any ideas if this is just normal wear, or do I have some type of malfunction? What should I be looking for that could be causing this? It has always had Federal .223 55GR ran through it (about 200-250 rounds) and it was brand new when I bought it.
  8. Found it: TITLE 27--ALCOHOL, TOBACCO PRODUCTS, AND FIREARMS CHAPTER II--BUREAU OF ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, FIREARMS, AND EXPLOSIVES, DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE PART 478_COMMERCE IN FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION--Table of Contents Subpart H_Records Sec. 478.129 Record retention. 9. I think the bound book is what is supposed to be maintained for 5 years. I believe the applications are to be destroyed. EDIT: Disregard my previous. ATF's site must be down, but found the following on Wikipedia under FFL License:
  10. Did you make sure the gas was turned on? I never, ever shut the gas off on any of my bikes, but somehow I always found them in the off position when I got them out in the spring. If not that, then stick a new spark plug in it and give her a shot of starting fluid a few times.
  11. Umm...there is this thing that some folks use that is called humor. You have to be able to take a joke every once in a while
  12. Good point. Switch from OC to locked-n-loaded AR aimed at vehicle while approaching. Of course the safety should be off and your finger should be on the trigger, and the red dot should be on center mass of the driver's side...all as a precaution, of course...
  13. sounds like the perfect opportunity to exercise your right to OC while approaching the vehicle...
  14. Could be something legit, or could be somebody casing houses. I'd be in their face! If I got a answer like our PI gave, I'd prolly help out. I'm not a jerk, but I do look out for my own property and that of my neighbors...
  15. I saw it, but didn't think it was that great. I'm a harsh critic of movies, though. I used to feel the dim does, and I still do to a point, but since the majority of the entertainment industry thinks differently than I do, I have to put my feelings aside and watch/listen. I only refuse when they are spouting their opinions, or I know the profits of their work will go to help further the lefties.
  16. X1. They also have honorably dscharged, retired military, handicapped vet, and disabled vet. The OIF/OEF, Desert Storm, etc plates pretty much denote combat action.
  17. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." From Websters: Main Entry: mi·li·tia Pronunciation: \mə-ˈli-shə\ Function: noun Etymology: Latin, military service, from milit-, miles Date: 1625 1 a : a part of the organized armed forces of a country liable to call only in emergency b : a body of citizens organized for military service 2 : the whole body of able-bodied male citizens declared by law as being subject to call to military service The only reason there is a bad connotation of the word militia is because we allow it. When we do not allow it, and we hold this word up and show the rest of the country that it not only describes something bad, but it in fact represents something absolutely necessary, then things will start to improve around here. The political correctness will kill us all.
  18. Don't knock the Hi-Point! I have a .380 and the thing has never failed. I'm not sure how many rounds I've put through it, or my buddy that I bought it from, but it has never had the first failure. On the other hand, I had a Hi-Point C9 that was pure junk. It would fail about every 5th round. Got rid of that junker! The 9mm carbine is awesome, too. It is on my "to buy" list.
  19. I like it, right up to the point where he bashes militias. What exactly does he think a militia stands for?
  20. Maybe we could all use a or maybe not....lol! I would agree with a no kill shelter, if it did not mean that all of us have to pay for the poor actions of others. One female cat can produce tens of thousands of unwanted kittens in a year's time. Under the no kill theory, there is not a shelter large enough in the world to house all of the unwanted pets created by ignorant pet owners. So, if they have to die (and the wife's municipality does not have a no kill shelter), then it is much more humane for them to just go to sleep, rather than die by the methods I mentioned in my previous post. This line of thinking is the same one that gains us the cradle to the grave health care debate that is raging in Congress right now. Spay/neuter is the answer to the problem, but unfortunately you can't get that through Billy Bob's head. Cities and counties up north have adopted spay/neuter laws. The results are that there is no longer enough animals in shelters there to be adopted. They have to retrieve animals from shelters in the south in order for families in those regions to have pets. Now, if you want to own/run a no kill shelter out of your own pocket, I would applaud you. I would even donate to your cause. The problem with no kill shelters, though, is eventually they run out of their own money, and then they run out of everyone else's money, and then they fold up. Very few even survive the first few years of operation. It is definitely a noble cause, but just not a economically feasible one. For anyone who wonders what irresponsible pet ownership looks like: We've dealt with the worst of the worst of pet owners in three states in this household for over a decade, so please don't approach me with a holier than thou attitude about animals until you've dealt with it in the court system, and picking up the aftermath.
  21. I'm not the dog catcher, and neither is the wife. The wife IS a animal control officer. A dog catcher does just that; catches dogs. He does not care what the outcome of the animal is, so long as it is no longer a nuisance to him. A animal control officer treats animals humanely, so that they may have another shot at life instead of dying slowly and painfully in a ditch after being struck by a car, starving to death because someone took them out in the country and turned them loose, or freezing to death while chained to a stake in the backyard because the owner doesn't believe in "inside" dogs. There should be a IQ test prior to letting anyone own a animal, and the stipulation that "ignorant rednecks need not apply," should be strictly enforced. I could never do my wife's job. Not because I don't like animals, but instead because I would kick the crap out of the idiot owners on a daily basis...
  22. As the husband of a 10 year animal control officer, I can state with certainty that this statement is somewhat under-educated. There are bad dogs, but they just don't know they are being bad. They are just doing what dogs do; react with aggression when faced with a fearful situation. Some breeds are more prone to do this, and some dogs within these breeds are even more prone to do this. As to the OP's question, the answer is yes, you are justified in shooting the dog if it poses a threat of serious bodily harm or death.
  23. I always thought that AK and accuracy was a contradiction in terms...
  24. It's cool that they are made in TN, but I will not pay that price for a unknown gun. My $600 Taurus 1911 has all the bells and whistles, is simple, clean, accurate, rugged, and dependable. That is not due to the name of the manufacturer, but is because the manufacturer stayed true to JMB's design. The only other 1911 I ever "plan" on buying is a Springfield GI model, because I love the way they look.
  25. I've never been carded for ammo or tobacco at Wal Mart, and I buy both there about every week. I haven't bought beer in a long time, but I'm pretty sure I would have been carded no matter where that happened last. I wouldn't use the HCP as ID. That's what the DL is for. I keep the HCP in front for ease of access, but i always flip the window over to show the DL. I agree with the OPSEC comment.
