  1. Next thing you know, JAB will be trying to tell us this guy's a Republican too. Just kidding man
  2. I knew you were, no idea why I typed "is". You were very clear, I just screwed up. This is 100% understandable. Those who walk the "thin blue line" together are often even closer than family and for good reason. They put their lives in each others hands.FWIW...I am VERY familiar with the strong sense of unity at play. My ex's father and her brother were cops and I learned a lot from them. In fact, when what seemed like half the LAPD watched a few cops beat Rodney King, I got a unique insight from them about the ordeal. He was on drugs, ran from them for a long time, putting multiple lives in danger, resisted arrest, and kept trying to get up for the sole reason that he wanted to keep fighting with them. I'm glad the cops didn't get in worse trouble than they did and angry that he got so much money. I'm not saying he deserved it, but I see why it happened. In this case I don't see the cop's side at all and was mostly just curious to see if any current LEO would step up and denounce this guys actions or not. You know they are talking about it at the station.
  3. Imagine if you cashed welfare checks too! You could afford to rent the consciences of several city councilmen in no time.
  4. I'd like to propose a $50 tax on casting stupid votes with an extra $50 tacked on if the idiot you voted for wins.
  5. If a bank around here put up a sign like that, I'd open an account. Best I can usually hope for is for there not to be a rob-me sign saying no guns allowed.
  6. This is happening to me on multiple PC's too. I have not made any changes to Internet security for IE or Firefox and both are affected. I think Worriedman is right about it being an MS update. I'll look at my update history and then jump on MSDN to see what I can find.
  7. After a member of a group does something like this officer did, some members privately approve/disapprove, some try to dinstance themselves, some defend/explain the situation, and some publicly denounced the acts. The group usually responds with some official message and it often sounds like the horse crap we heard from the Canton PD. When handled properly, both the group and its members respond quickly like the Baptists and other religions did to distance themselves from Fred Phelps and his bunch. I heard lots of people defend Michael Vick publicly, explaining his actions as part of his culture. I don't always agree with the explanation (like with Vick), but at least I respect them for stepping up and trying to shed light on things. I didn't check the profile of everyone who has replied to see who is/was an LEO. I know Dolomite is and I thank him for giving us his take. Still, I wish we could hear more of the perspectives of some current LEOs. I hear a lot about there being a code of silence among cops, but have no idea if it's true. It'd be good to know how some of them feel about it.
  8. Cauliflower kinda looks like brains. Maybe that would work?
  9. I've heard someone call somebody else a “****ing ******!” before knowing good and well that they weren't. They just said it to insult the other person. I'm not saying the bicyclist wasn't wearing a rainbow pride t-shirt, just that the assailant's choice of words were no guarantee that gay guy got punched because he's gay. I mean when I call someone an a-hole, I don't literally mean I think they are a rectum...just sayin'
  10. All while the cop is threatening, cursing, and insulting this guy about having a gun in his presence, I can't help but wonder what would happen if the guy had said 'what's that on your hip? a gun?'. Also, he told the alleged hooker and pimp that if he sees them again they'll "get lumps" or something like that. Sounds like an illegal threat to them too.
  11. I hate getting sniped in an auction, but I'd be really mad if I missed a good deal over 6% of the final sale price.
  12. Great idea, thanks for posting it...sticky please!
  13. yep, me too...thought it was a Firefox issue at first, but IE's doing it too. I change pages and try to post and get errors.
  14. I thought the same...in fact, the only reason I clicked was to see w/ my own eyes, LOL.
  15. LEO's are trained to exert a sense of confidence that is akin to dominance. There's no room for being wishy washy or timid in their line of work. The must appear to be in charge of every confrontation. I suspect this is often mistaken for a "power trip". However, the officer in this video has some serious issues. The language he uses aside is unnecessary, but the threats to a fully cooperating citizen are just plain inexcusable. My guess is that he'll be attending some on the clock anger management classes and be given a lengthy paid vacation soon.
  16. You know your wife won't let you buy another gun.
  17. I cannot agree with the "butt out" attitude regarding the abortion issue. In most cases I agree that I should mind my business, like when it comes to what kind of light bulbs my neighbors buy, whether they have tattoos and piercings, what kind of gas mileage their car gets, whether they like porn, how much beer they drink or weed they smoke, whether they believe in God, or what their favorite sexual position is. These are the kind of things that hurt no one. But, if I hear/see a neighbor beating his wife or kids, I cannot stand idly by and ignore it. I can't just dismiss it as his right to choose how he releases his tensions. Getting an abortion is not like having a mole removed or a scar touched up. A human being is killed in the process. So, calling the abortion victim a "fetus" as if it's just a sack of tissue with nothing at stake in the "choice" doesn't mean the baby isn't alive. It's a serious subject that I feel deserves serious scrutiny. Turning a blind eye and marginalizing the value of the life at risk doesn't seem to like how you deal with a serious subject.
  18. We trusted that the doctor was correct and that my wife would, in fact, die if she did not have the surgery and chemotherapy. So, we felt we had no choice but to have an abortion. It was the an easy decision then and every time I look at my daughter, born almost 2 years later, I am glad she is here and that my wife is alive. However, I'd be lying if I said that the decision doesn't bother me today. Like db, I'd die for my kids and so would my wife, but we had to also consider our then 2 yr old son as well. Maybe that makes my strong Pro-Life position seem hypocritical, but my regrets don't outweigh the good that came from our choice.
  19. I've carried this one every day for almost a year on the same AA battery. It comes on every time I click the button and is easy to carry at only 4" long and 1" across at the widest part. At first, I thought $13.65 w/ shipping for a 180 lumen light sounded too low to be trustworthy, but it's been good to go whenever I need it. It has Hi/Lo/Strobe, aluminum body, tail cap clicky/clickie, and pocket clip. Plus it takes one AA or one CR123A battery. So far, I've been happy and am glad I didn't spend $100 on one.
  20. Although I acknowledge that it is rare to "need" an abortion to save the mother's life, I found myself in the exact situation you've described. In late 1994 my wife was pregnant with our second child. Within 6 or 8 weeks we found out she had advanced lymphoma. We struggled for all of a day at the most with the decision of whether she had an abortion, surgery to remove tumors, and chemotherapy or died from cancer within months +/- of giving birth (as estimated by her oncologist). Our oldest, a son, is shipping out to the Marines exactly one week from today. He did not deserve to grow up without his mother and would not be the man he is today without her influence. Our youngest, a daughter, was born in late 1996. I cannot imagine life without her and owe her existence to our decision. As I see it ALL life is precious, whether it's an unborn living child or the mother carrying that child. While I consider myself strongly Pro-Life today, I'd obviously NEVER ask a woman to risk her life if an abortion could save her. Otherwise, whether it's been born a week ago, conceived a week ago, or somewhere in between I believe the rest of the abortion debate has always and will always hinge upon when the law decides a child is too old to kill.
  21. They forgot something... After the cow pulls the round into the chamber, it falls through a trap door. Then the springy thing pushes the cow down a secret passage behind the executive office. Duh, how else does it get back to the ramp thingy below the rec room to pull the next bullet.
