I am in this situation often. From the time you hit your panic button until your alarm company notifies dispatch might be several minutes. Then the time between dispatch receiving the call and notifying the responding officer accounts for some of the delay. My scene time on an armed robbery a little while back was under 30 seconds, but the station owner said it had been several minutes since he hit his panic button.
The delay you experienced was most likely, not the fault of the responding officer. I'm sure he loved your snide remark, I hope he did not leave something more important because you "accidentally hit your panic button." I have experienced homeowners who hit the panic button just to see how long it will take the police to arrive. I always explain to them that myself or someone else could have been injured or even killed while I rushed to their fake panic alarm. Next time please call and notify the responding agency that it is a false alarm.
