  1. Yeah, reloading is never about saving money. It is about shooting more. Well that and building better ammo than you can buy. You will find that once you find a decent load it will be better than anything you have ever bought and it will do it cheaper to boot.
  2. I had someone try to doggy nap my Lilly. Had that happened they would have had a very, very bad day. Our road is a dead end road and they stopped on the way in and tried to get her into their truck. They took off when they seen that I had seen them. I can honestly say that when it comes to my dogs I will put their safety above most humans.   It infuriates me when I see how some people treat animals and wish domesticated animals, such as dogs and cats, had the same level of protection as people enjoy. I would love for the penalties for killing an animal, without justification, carried the same penalties as if they had killed a person without justification. Or if they decide to abuse an animal the penalties should be the same as if they abused a child. And if you abandon an animal you should be required to pay for all care and medical treatment until the animal is adopted.   Too many people consider animals disposable. And all animals want to do is please. No dog is born aggressive or mean, it is only after they have been exposed to awful people that they turn mean.
  3. We don't live on Indian Ridge.
  4. Also, how far up Indian Ridge did they go missing?
  5. We will be driving up Indian Ridge in about an hour. We will keep an eye out.   Did they get out or were they taken?
  6. I leave mine at "past year". I have found that if you mark "content I have not read" it can give zero results sometimes.
  7. Bumping this up. If you own one now is the time to speak up.
  8. We had a history since new. I am the 3rd owner and he 2nd owner called the first owner. Also, if it is a rifle and was transferred as anything else the ATF will call. It happened to someone on this board. He built a AK pistol on a virgin Nodak receiver. When he sold it the FFL used the trunion serial number rather than the receiver serial number and because the trunion serial number was used previously for a rifle the seller got a visit. The agent claimed he made a pistol illegally from a rifle. All was cleared up as soon as the agent seen a new Nodak receiver was used. So when I transferred the Encore receiver as that I would have gotten a visit if it was a rifle.
  9. My last Encore I bought I made sure the seller could verify it was transferred as a receiver when he bought it. I know there is a year cutoff where they did not make any factory Contender rifles. Before that they were all pistols. I am going to get really deep into a search. Hopefully one could call T/C and ask but I suspect it is not going to be that easy.
  10. Problem is the vast majority of times the department, county and/or city will defend the officers because if the officers are found to be at fault then the department, county and/or will also be found at fault. Most law suits like this list the officers, the county and every body in between on one suit. So if one is found guilty the rest are also found guilty. A better way to approach it is to file a lawsuit against each individually and not lump them in with the rest. The reason is if the department can distance themselves from the bad officer they will but when lumped together the department has no choice but to defend themselves and the officers are part of that defense. It also allows one or two defendants to be found not guilty and you still have the rest you may win from. Another reason is when a suit is won against an individual officer it is the officer that pays and not the rest of the department. The reason why most people list the city or county is they are hoping for the multi million dollar settlement which, from my experience, rarely happens. I would much rather hold the ones actually responsible too.   When I had someone try to sue me it listed me, about a 1/2 dozen yet to be named officers, my supervisor, my supervisor's supervisor,  every chief in the department, the sheriff, the county mayor and the county itself. In the end it was thrown out but it also cost the county $15K to prepare for the court case. Most times a lot of departments, counties or cities will try to settle for a no fault judgment for less than the cost to defend. I know we had one suit that was total BS but the claimant agreed to take $5K in order to drop the suit and the county was glad because it was cheaper than going to court.   As far as what happened here very few bad officers just wake up one day and are suddenly bad officers. It has normally taken years of slowly pushing the boundaries. And although we would love to hate the officers for what they did but it is not entirely their fault. Their actions are the result of their continued training, his peers, his supervisors as well as the administration. They have allowed other incidents to go unpunished which only empowers officers like this. It is a rare that an officer goes from being an outstanding officer to a crappy officer in one step, it happens gradually in front of their peers and supervisors. Officers tend to take care of their own even when the bad officer brings a bad light to the good ones. I never understood this, the good officers should be very angry with the bad officer but it rarely happened from what I witnessed. I know any time I had an officer screw up enough to warrant being fired I tried everythig in my power to fire them but in most cases the administration allowed them to resign because it was easier. And in a lot of cases the resigning officer received a letter of recommendation upon exit as well as a glowing review because he didn't try to fight it. Another thing that contributes to things like this is that officers are afraid of being labeled a rat if they tell on other officers. I have known several officers who did the right thing in by turning in bad officers only to be ridiculed and threatened until they finally resigned. In most cases the bad officer would be treated better than the good officer. And when the good officer resigned they would rarely get letters of recommendation. I have even sat in front of supervisors as they called all the surrounding jurisdictions to tell them the officer who just resigned is a rat. They would joke saying the rat has been blackballed and will never work LE again. Stark contrast to the way they treat bad cops.
  11. HUH?   The officers were found at fault and have been charged.
  12. I have been using Kaytee Lizard litter Desert Blend for a long time now. It works better than the corn cob I have tried. It is also so small it does not plug the flash holes like some walnut media. It is also a bit more abrasive than corn cob so it works faster. I normally add a little bit of liquid car wax and maybe some Flitz. Once the media is loaded it lasts a very long time.   As far as locking down the dies using Lee you need to use a pair of pliers. I do not hand tighten the locking rings, I use a pair of pliers and really lock them in place. They have never accidentally moved.   Tumbling is a much better method. It contains the lead particles. With vibratory tumbling it releases microscopic lead dust into the area and that can expose you to a substantial amount of lead.   For the powder through dies make sure you clean them with solvent before use. They can have oil/grease on the inside and the powder can stick to it.
  13. Prices are too awful bad either for a brick and mortar store.
  14. I am not going to lock it.   The reason is this is more than just cop bashing. The post has something we normally don't see which is the bad officers being held accountable. Normally we just see a post and assume the bad officers got away with it but in this case it seems as though they will not.
  15. I have personally fitted quite a few thumb safeties on a 1911. I have yet to find one that is drop in AND safe. The difference between safe and unsafe is literally less than 1/32" of material removal.
  16. They quit bending over for brass. They just stand back and catch it before it hits the ground.   I had one that was picking up all my 45 ACP brass. I told him it was mine and he got snarky and told me to prove it. I then told him to check the headstamp and that all the pink ones were mine. He just gave me a disgusting look when he realized he had picked up all my brass then rather than give me the brass he picked up he just dumped it all back out onto the ground for me to pick up again.
  17. Depends on how loose the extractor is. Some guns have a lot of room, at least a lot more than the firing pin protrudes. I had a 1911 that had an extractor that was WAY loose. The groove was way too far forward.
  18. If you want some really good entertainment for $5.50 go to the John Sevier range in Halls. Buy an hours worth of time then head down to the benchrest range. Then stand up and dump a mag. The action will be entertaining. You will probably see a few RSO's fall over from heart attacks and strokes. A few will immediately go into the "one shot per second" speech and the remaining RSO's will probably stand around with a dumb look on their face (like they normally do). Then when they gang up on you just act dumb.   Oh, and if you do decide to do this make sure to video it.
  19. You are putting too much of a crimp on the case mouth. There should be enough case mouth for a fingernail to grab.   You are lucky they did not fire. If the bullet is far enough in the chamber the throat can keep the case mouth from releasing the bullet. And when that happens pressures get astronomical pretty fast.   You should be flaring the case mouth then remove the flare and not crimp. You should be able to see the full thickness of the case mouth.
  20. Shouldn't the nut have a skirt on it?
  21. I will say that when the weather turns warmer there definitely is more crime, especially assaults. I know when I worked in LE we dreaded the first really nice weekend because it always was busy because all the people who were indoors for the winter months finally got out and acted like a bunch if idiots. There definitely is more crime in the summer than in the winter.
  22. Never thought LWRC was that big of a company. Maybe Colt bought it to remove some competition.
  23. I pulled the info from 2 decades of building hot rods, mostly Fords. I would add the friction modifier and drive it around for 10 minutes. The problem should be gone.
  24. You can go as deep as you want. Depends on how long you apply current.
  25. What about electro etching. All the materials are easy to find and CHEAP. The hardest part is finding a laser printer to make the stencil. That is how I am probably going to engrave all my NFA stuff. StaticUSMC knows of a company in Maryville that does great work for cheap.
