I actually prefer a 223 chamber. Reason is it has more going for it as far as accuracy goes than 5.56. Not saying every 223 chamber will outshoot every 5.56 chamber but the 223 chamber starts out with tighter tolerances which helps accuracy. Also a 223 chamber doesn't swell brass like 5.56 can and that gives you longer case life.

Glass bead blasting only smoothes or polishes the surface so it will not hold oil very well. Media blasting with aluminum oxide makes the exterior rough so it holds oil a million times better. It is about as rough as a parkerized finish and holds oil just as well. I oil it down once or twice a year with 50/50 synthetic 30 weight and ATF. It gets used every 3-4 months and so far I have not seen any rust anywhere. Trust me when I say I do not baby my guns or go through anything special to protect them. I am not sure if just media blasting will be enough if oiled. I used the creme from Brownells as added protection as well as giving it a decent dark finish. Even cold blue offers protectin over bare steel.

Here is a decent place to get "kits". https://www.model1sales.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=151 Any of these kits comes with EVERYTHING except the stripped lower. Here are stripped uppers from the same company: https://www.model1sales.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=152 You could buy just the upper then buy a LPK and the stock you want.

I will let you know in a few days if the current regiment doesn't pan out. Don't really need anything other than to confirm treatment as being reasonable. Basically I trust but verify anyone when it is something important so I was wanting to verify the treatment of another vet. But I will let you know by Saturday.

http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/9luger.html If you are zeroing at 50 yards here is the drops in an AR: 25 yards= +.6" 50 yards= 0.0 75 yards= -1.0" 100 yards= -3.8" 125 yards= -8.5" The bullet will be within a 1" of those numbers above with pretty much any weight out of a carbine. BTW, those number are based on a 115 grain bullet at 1,320 fps.

Mortgage Protection Insurance???
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
Because of my helicopter accident I have yet to find a life insurance policy. The one that I did find wanted me to pay $297 a month for $10K and that it would not become active until I had paid for 36 months. I would have been cheaper to just stick it in the bank. I have some good leads now. -
I was wondering if anyone knows a finance company or lender that offers life insurance tied to a mortgage? I am not sick or dying just looking for mortgage protection insurance in case something happens to me.

I have got my 16", soon to be 9", and probably going to be building another supersonic only gun.

ATF letter. Do you carry with the gun or leave it at home?
Dolomite_supafly replied to lsp408's topic in Long Guns
Anyone who has the authority to view your NFA forms would not be interested in a copy. TCA says you shall retain proof of registration but does not say you are required to have it on your person or to provide it to LE. I guess you could redact the serial number of the gun on the form to prevent them from running a check. Now commonsense dictates you keep a copy to keep an overzealous LE officer from hassling you but you are not required to provide them with the form or a copy. I had one officer tell me if he caught me with my legally registered silencer he would seize it and I could get it back from the ATF, I just chuckled. But there are some who will assume that you are in possession of an illegal item and do not want to see your paperwork. Happened to a friend of mine and he was detained at a range until ATF showed up. There are a lot more officers out there that are clueless regarding NFA than there are that actually do know anything about it. I know officers that swear they do not need to do any paperwork to convert their guns to machine guns. They even believe that once they leave LE they are legally allowed to keep their machine guns. I have tried to inform them of the law but according to them I don't know what I am talking about because I am not LE. I made my own 22 can and I am getting ready to build a 30 caliber can when approval comes in. I have had officers tell me it is illegal for any civilian to make or own them. -
And if you are can I get a call?

DO NOT SHAKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It likely has an internal "firing pin" that hits an internal primer when it impacts. If you shake it the primer might go off and take a hand, or more, with it. As the projetile hits something the "firing pin", which is at the rear, moves forward and strikes the internal primer which causes it to detonate. I remember hearing about a lot of the spotter rounds doing this if they were shaken too hard. Here is a cut away of something similar:

Good Molle Tactical Plate Carrier Recomendations
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Those plates were NOT rifle rated plates, they are only rated for pistol calibers. Second, they do not have the additional spall treatment. -
If you media blast it using medium aluminum oxide it will give a very nice dull finish, almost like it has been parkerized. After media blasting using medium aluminum oxide use Brownells OxhoBue Crème. The crème seems to give a nice even coat compared to liquid and it also stays in place. After you have it blued rinse it well with warm water. Then oil like normal. I did this to my wife's Savage in 45 ACP. I have yet to see a single sign of rust and I do not oil it very often. Here is what the finish looks like afterwards: Here is another picture:

How about this. When we find overpriced ammo on Armslist let's all flag the ad to have it removed. So who wants to post the next one?

Green Mountain makes some great barrels. I have used 6-8 barrel blanks now and all have been great shooters. Every one shot MOA and most were 1/2 MOA. Also, the prices cannot be beat. Btw, they make all kinds of barrels. They even make 73mm which is a 2.87" bore.

Agreed but I think the qualifier should not be felony vs misdemeanor and should be violent vs non-violent. Again because there are way too many crimes that are felonies that should not be. A felony should be reserved for someone who commits a serious crime, not someone who has a few joints in their pocket. As much as I hate Bieber and think he is a pretentious little brat who should have been spanked a lot more as a child I also think he was over charged. He was arrested for felony vandalism because he threw some eggs at a neighbors house. No you shouldn't be throwing eggs but does it warrant a felony charge? I don't think so. I bet there are a lot on here that threw and egg or two when they were young. Vandalism should never be a felony. And we are not even sentencing people correctly for felonies. In my county people get time served for felonies all the time. It is because the judges and courts are seeing that some crimes should not be felonies and are sentencing them as though they are misdemeanors. Problem is those felonies that should be getting serious time are not because the other felonies are not. I think a lot of the new felony laws, as well as the upgrade of existing laws to felonies, is a way to start the process of controlling the population. With a felony you take away their right to peaceful change by voting. There should not be a single drug law that should be a felony if the amounts are personal use amounts. There are a lot of places where the possession of cocaine, even personal amounts, are a felony. A person should not be charged with a crime if they want to ingest something bad for them. If so then hotdogs, crème puffs and Twinkies should also be illegal to have. There is a lot more cost involved in treating the populace that eats bad stuff than the populace that uses "illegal" drugs.

Unfortunately the gunshow does not allow pictures. You will get run out pretty quickly for ousting vendors. -
The thought of them going back to prison definitely plays a role in a lot of criminals thought process. There are a lot of criminals out there who wish they could have a gun but don't because they don't want to go back to prison. For those hardcore criminals that don't care it can be used to give them additional time in prison. Self defense is a God given right but what you use for that defense is, in fact, regulated. Why should someone who has chosen a life of crime or hurt people have the exact same rights as a person who has never done so? After breaking the law your are, and always will be, a criminal. That is a fact and there is really no way to change it. You can get your recod expunged but you are still a criminal. And when you become a criminal, which is a lifelong label, you should loose certain priveleges. I don't hear anybody screaming that the child molester should have the right to open a childcare facility after he is released. He has paid his dues and has just as much right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as any one of us. The reason why he can't is because he is a verified danger to children. A convicted violent criminal is a verified danger to the public and we should try to do everything in our power to limit his ability to harm anyone else like we limit a child molester from having access to children. There are a lot of BS felony charges out there. Seems like every new law that gets enacted is a felony now. There should be a distinction between violent and non violent criminals. A non violent criminal should be allowed to own a firearm but those who are violent should not.

Anyone want to go meet the guy to snap a picture and post is all over social media for our area? Maybe we can embarrass these people into stopping. -
You know what I am talking about, I am not talking about instances where you cite. I am talking about violent criminals, as in people who have been convicted or plead guilty to a violent crime. Those people should never be allowed to own a firearm. There are consequences for committing crimes, some are lifelong. And I don't care if they have done their time and are free they should still never be allowed to own a firearm.

Or moving to places like Tennessee because we are a lot cheaper than Canada. Problem is they are true liberals. They only want to be conservatives when it comes to certain things, everything else they would support. Then after they have instilled the agenda here and it again becomes too liberal for them they move onto another state to ruin them. They supported the liberal agenda until THEIR government struck a nerve and they decided to move. So when they come here they might want some firearm freedoms but they also want all the social programs and other liberal benefits that they have lived with and supported for the last 3 decades. We are seeing it now with a lot of liberals moving here because their home state became too liberal but they want to turn Tennessee into the utopia that was their home state right before their leaders went too far in their home state. It is easier for them to move here than to fight for their own state. Then when things get too bad here they leave us to fight the battle they started. Personally I would not be against an immigration system for our state. You cannot become a resident of Tennessee unless you meet certain requirements. If you get caught living here without it you get shipped off, in the middle of the night, to your previous state of residency. And even after you are permitted residency you cannot vote in state or local elections for 7 years. Not sure what the requirements would be but one would be that you must pay taxes, either income or property, to be allowed to become a Tennessean.

Dimensionally loaded 223 and 5.56 is identical. The difference is pressures. SAAMI spec for 223 is 55K psi and 5.56 is more than that. Most estimates is 5.56 runs 65K. Now because of the additional pressures of 5.56 the chamber is slightly different than a 223 chamber. The chief difference is the throat in a 5.56 is slightly longer than 223. This allows the bullet to begin moving, and reduce pressures, before hitting the resistance of the rifling. Because of the longer throat of the 5.56 chamber it is safe to shoot 223 in a 5.56 chamber. Some say that you cannot shoot 5.56 in a 223 chamber. But I have shot a lot of 5.56 out of guns with a verified 223 chamber. Shooting 5.56 in a 223 will not cause some sort of dramatic failure. If it does then your gun had issues in the first place. Proof loads are well beyond the pressures encountered when shooting max 5.56 loads in a 223 chamber. Then there is the estimate that 25% of the "5.56" actually have 223 chambers. As manufacturers chamber barrels the reamers dull and most resharpen the reamer. This reduces the size of the reamer each time. There was a random test done by a publication and well over 25% had 223 chambers so if shooting 5.56 in a 223 chamber caused the gun to blow up we would be seeing it everyday.
