I have a couple of Kimbers that I have had 0 problems with. Most of your problems do, as stated above, sound magazine related. I would start with trying a Wilson or other known top brand mag just to see if it makes any difference. After that I would say it was time for a trip back to Kimber.

I like a full size 1911 or my Commander sometimes. The trick to carrying a full size 1911 is a good quality holster and even more important and seems to be the most overlooked part of concealed carry,is the belt. A good "gun" belt is crucial to comfortable carry of a large heavy weapon. With my Wilderness Tactical belt a 1911 virtually disappears. If you are serious about carrying a gun, full size or not you owe it to yourself to invest in the proper tools to do it with.

Went and visited these guys this past Tue.(1/11/11) Very informative, friendly and nice. No high pressure and took the time to explain the different safes in detail. Just as a comparison, I went to check out some of the "big box" discount store safes. There is just no comparison in the quality. My wife, who could really care less, noticed the difference as soon as she closed the door on the cheaper safes. She said they fell and sound like tin cans. Their (the safe house) lower priced safes aren't much more than the big box store safes and are much higher quality. I will be getting one from them as soon as me and Uncle Sam come to an agreement as to how much extra he took from me this year.

If buying online I would check Discount Guns for Sale - Buds Gun Shop and Firearms, Guns, Rifles. Grain Valley, Missouri. They both have a good rep. and hard to beat prices.

At self defense ranges, go with the cheapest ammo of similar bullet weight and practice as often and as realistically as possible. Remember, your advisory is rarely a stationary man size target at 25 yards.....

If you are wanting a bullet you don't have to worry about sticking in your barrel, get a block of parrifin wax, it comes in blocks about 1/2in thick. I've used it for indoor(garage) practice ammo with just primers. I would prime a case and push the case into the wax using it like a cookie cutter.

My go-to gun has always been one of a few of my 1911's. However the other night I heard a ruckus out back, I went to grab one of my 3 closest loaded handguns, and I grabbed my Glock 35. Afterwards, I thought about this thread and thought about my choice of gun. Hmmmm.

If I can make a suggestion on the Glock trigger that helped me shoot them much better. Installing an over-travel stop in the trigger. There are a few ways to accomplish it in a Glock. I personally used the "Ghost Rocket 3.5" 3.5 lb. ROCKET it has over-travel built in but requires fitting. An easy to install kit Lone Wolf Distributors - Product Detail - Lone Wolf "Pro Pick" Trigger Kit My problem with Glocks were not the the heavy pull but the bounce at the end.

If any of you have a chance to take a class with Tom and the folks at Rangemaster, do so. I took the instructors course with them this past August. I improved my skills as a shooter and instructor immeasurably. Tom and his staff were the most knowledgeable instructors in the field I have had the pleasure to learn from. I will be taking more classes from him as time and money allows.

Taurus Lifetime Warranty Questions
lowery100 replied to Sidewinder's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
They will sell certain parts to you like grips and such but anything to have to do with the operation of the gun they will not sell. It seems to be about 50/50 on customer service experiences. Good luck. -
Carry in Georgia with Tn permit?
lowery100 replied to gr8smiles's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Alright got the final word from my Trooper friend and his supervisor who is said to be all knowledgeable on commercial DOT regs. OhShoot you are correct. As long as you have a valid permit, you are good to go. They no longer care what your company policy is. This is the latest interpretation of the law. He said about three years ago legal opinions changed due to a court challenge not a true change in the law, only the way it is now interpreted. He told me to "feel free to carry your hog leg in your truck". -
I don't know if it will help but Speer still makes the bullet, just not in loaded ammo. I have a box of the bullets. I believe they make some good standard pressure loads. Good luck on your search.

Carry in Georgia with Tn permit?
lowery100 replied to gr8smiles's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Just got off the phone with my Trooper friend. He works tonight and is going to talk with his supervisor to get clarification. He did say there is a TCA regulation on passengers and believes it similar for concealed carry in a commercial vehicle, but he is going to get the specifics. He did say that most Troopers don't care as long as you have a permit and will only push the issue if you are being an ass. I will post again as soon as I talk to him. -
Carry in Georgia with Tn permit?
lowery100 replied to gr8smiles's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
That is what it would seem. He and I worked together as truck drivers before he became a Trooper, so he seems to have good knowledge on both sides of the coin so to speak. It would not seem to be illegal to carry a passenger in your truck but you can be fined if they are not a co-driver or authorized by your company. I will try and get clarification form him. Weather it is a fine, an arrest-able offense or what. -
Carry in Georgia with Tn permit?
lowery100 replied to gr8smiles's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
A friend of mine who is a Trooper in Sumner co. He said carrying in a commercial vehicle is legal with a couple of stipulations. The state must have reciprocity with TN and it's just like having a passenger in your truck you must have a letter of authorization from your company stating it is o.k. with them or be able to reach your company's safety officer. -
I have had A couple of Charters over the years, the is a two piece design. The grip/trigger guard of the ones I have seen and had were aluminium not plastic. The ones I had were pretty poor quality, horrible triggers, the newer ones are supposed to be a lot better. If I were in the market for a small revolver I would look for a used Smith or Ruger.

Berry's is one shop I have always had problems getting a good price on their guns. They do good on their jewelry but guns not so good.

I have bought several guns from pawn shops over the years. The key is to know a ball park value of what you are looking for and go in with cash. Those pawn shop guys love cash. I have offered half their asking price (in cash) and walked out with some very nice guns. Half is always where I start and depending on how bad I want it I'll haggle from there.

A.P.P.S Target Shooting versus Street Survival Shooting They are in Nashville and train armed and unarmed security guards. They will be able to answer any questions you have about the business.

Yea, I know, I am well aware of how silly it looks:cool:,it has been the only practical way I have found to be able to access my weapon with a heavy zipped jacket, it is only on when I am riding, my regular holster I keep in my saddle bag and switch over at my destination.

I have a fanny pack I use for M/C carry only. It has two pockets on the outside for my wallet and cell phone, it has tabs on the outside you can grab with gloved hands and rip open to access your weapon. It seems to work well for me.

That's funny my wife has taken possession of my Mdl 19. She says it is my only gun that looks like areal gun. As others have said the 686 is one modern incarnations of the 19. All K/L frames are the same size framed gun. The model # all designates finishes, barrel types etc. They are out there, you will see them from time to time at gunshows. There was nice 686 on here in the classifieds a while back.

I bought a new 23 a few months ago. I put approx. 1000 rounds over 3 days through it for an instructors class with only minimal cleaning, it had zero malfunctions through the class and have zero since. Factory loads, reloads, hollow points, it does not matter, it just runs.
