There should be no play or movement. You do noy want aby flex between the receiver and barrel. If there is do not fire it until you have it looked at by a gunsmith Next look at the bore is it heavily pitted, is it damascus steel? in either case don't shoot it until you get it checked. Do you know the chamber length? It could be shorter than 2 3/4 inches. In which case shooting modren shotshells could cause an overpresure situation which is bad.

I have two both rescues. This is Hunney She was extremely malnourished when we got her she only weighed 40 pounds full grown. Hunney is one of the few dogs that I have ever met that really seem to be retarded. It took me a year to teach her to sit or lay down. She used to sleep sitting up and fell off the couch many times. This is Pepper. She is a mix, not sure of what, maybe some Lab German Shepard Pit or Char Pai. She is our protector. No one comes to the house with her letting us know they are there. The shelter told us the Pepper's first family was forced to surrender her. She has bad scars like she was chained or cabled out and mistreated.
