Sure, they all spin and mislead and outright lie. And the press (or public) should call them on it every time, and make it more damaging to behave this way than not.

New regulations for postings? (Opinions)
Jonnin replied to Mdunntn's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
We need someone like he who shall not be named to OC an AK pistol into a poorly posted place to test the theory.... Kidding aside, the regulations are quite clear already: Notice of such prohibition shall be posted. Posted notices shall be displayed in prominent locations, including all entrances primarily used by persons entering the building, portion of the building or buildings where weapon possession is prohibited. If the possession of weapons is also prohibited on the premises of any such property as well as within the confines of a building located on such property, the notice shall be posted at all entrances to the premises that are primarily used by persons entering the property. The notice shall be in English but a notice may also be posted in any language used by patrons, customers or persons who frequent the place where weapon possession is prohibited. In addition to the sign, notice may also include the international circle and slash symbolizing the prohibition of the item within the circle. The sign shall be of a size that is plainly visible to the average person entering the building, premises or property and shall contain language substantially similar to the following: which basically says you have to be able to see the thing. -
well, yes, all that stuff! But not agreeing with someone is not even remotely related to deception, those cannot really be put together. I can disagree with say H. Cain's tax plan (just a random example), but he was not trying to hide his agenda there. I can agree with Romney's web site gun control statement/mission or party platform, but it feels misleading. Totally different.

The alternative is to not vote, which is translated as apathy rather than as anger at the choice.
-
No, I am not thinking obama with no re-election looming would be a good thing at all, as that gives him both free reign AND in his mind, a mandate to F things up.
-
Correct, Talo is a company that seems to buy up a number of items, engrave and refinish and otherwise pretty them up, and resell them for a small premium. You may be able to get THEM to support you somehow, but ruger cannot fix that, same as ruger could not fix it if you took it to bubbabob's guncroak refinishing service. They are a large company and probably will work with you, give it a try http://www.taloinc.com/

I mostly ignore obama, and have not one nice thing to say about him. I may have to vote for mitt but that does not mean I have to like him or trust him. Obama's lies do not justify Romney's lies.
-
Well, Mitt was campaigning as early as 2008, which is when he said this: "I also, like the president, would have signed the assault weapon ban that came to his desk." Also his web site currently: "As governor of Massachusetts, Mitt was proud to support legislation that expanded the rights of gun owners. He worked hard to advance the ability of law-abiding citizens to purchase and own firearms, while opposing liberal desires to create bureaucracy intended to burden gun owners and sportsmen." which is just an outright lie: the stuff he supported as governer did no such thing. Mostly, he has dodged the issue in the current campaign, because it points out his opportunistic flip flopping (also seen in his abortion stance). He has pretty much mouthed the "correct" words since 2009 or so. In my book, though, his performance as gov means a heck of a lot more than his words on the campaign trail. And the lie on his website is downright frightening.

I like the sig 238 best of the little 380s, and recommend trying one. My wife is currently using a taurus 22 mag 8 shot revolver IWB. She gave up the sig because she felt she would forget the safety under stress. HOW you carry, there are more options for women and it may or may not be very different from what men do. WHAT you carry will be the same, plenty of men carry the small 380s and whatever else.

gift cards / cash work as you get older. People do not know what you already have, or want, its an easy way out. Of course its nice to unwrap stuff if they know you well enough, but getting $20 each from 10 people at your favorite ammo store is also really nice.... trouble is when their time comes around you give it back, so its really, if you think about it, just an excuse to spend your own money on stuff you want

Point is only that romney does not follow the listed platform at all when it comes to guns. Odds of something happening, tiny to none. Odds of him riding along with anything that does happen? Pretty good. I do not trust him on this issue, and its going to take all 8 years to convince me otherwise.

AlGore calls for end of Electoral College
Jonnin replied to MattCary's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Not sure if the 17th removal would do it or not. Maybe. I would have to think about it for a while. Splitting the EC votes is an option I could consider, but I still say the difference between that and pure popular vote is very small. -
no tinfoil hat. No hidden agenda. Just exactly what I said.... in the very unlikely off chance they hand him something like the brady bill, it will be signed. He won't push for it, or ask for it, but if gift wrapped for him....
-
I am relying on his many anti gun quotes and dealings including his governership and I think a few of his statements were in the early primaries. If congress handed him a ban like the one clinton signed, he would sign it. I 100% believe that. Esp if it were his second term, with no consequences for him.

I would buy everything you said if they had not already confronted him once to examine the weapon. -
They both (the obama and romney) want to start with a ban on semi automatic rifles and continue from there, old news. The R platform can say they want to legalize bazookas, nukes, and guncopters for public fun and sport, and it would not change that fact.

That might very well be the best answer to that question so far, very good point. I know I don't have the patience to deal with people like this and would be sorely tempted to give him the aforementioned boot. Then again, that is why I went into the computer field, they don't sue if you smack them (yet). -
the cleveland hunting rifle pistol range has 200 max. Its close to you, but not going to take you all the way out.

I like it. Tempting, but not too high up on the list since I have a similar 6 shot convertible.

no they decided to do the guns out approach, then went and found him for the second time, as far as I can make sense of the pdf file. Nothing appears to have prompted the guns out, which is what I have been going on about for the last page or so.... apparently unclearly, sorry about that. I do not feel bad for him either. I just hope that checking a HCP with guns drawn is not SOP. Again, while I respect the officers, going in guns first is how guys with a water hose nozzle get shot, or the other occasional similar story... the old though of going in expecting trouble and you find it, I guess... -
the press is having a random moment and tearing into him as his speech and the weekly job data are not adding up so well. I did not really expect to see so many "obama gives speech but economy is horribad" headlines from so many places...

Man Who Carried AK-47 Pistol In Park Loses Appeal
Jonnin replied to MikePapa1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It was up there but the thread is getting long. In a quick nutshell, they stopped him twice. First time, guy checks permit and looks at gun, is not sure about pistolness of it but lets it go. Not long after two officers (same one and another, I think) decide to do a "felony takedown" of him to check the gun: this seems to mean "guns drawn" (they said that) and probably a 0 tolerance for any BS. He surrendered peacefully again, and had a nice time waiting on them to figure out how to classify the gun. I totally agree it was no place for an AK. I would not have a problem with him getting told to take it home or get a 'disturbing the peace' violation or something: LEOS do that when there is someone being a pest. I totally agree as well that "in practice", it is very different from a holstered smaller pistol --- but in the "eyes of the law", it is no different. No argument there -- again, a dumb publicity stunt. I will take this moment to say the LEOS did a pretty darn good job. Even with my concern about the procedure used, they still did their best to deal with a difficult individual in a questionable (potentially dangerous) situation. In times of stress, sometimes people make strange decisions and I get that too. I am just armchair quarterbacking here and saying the drawn weapons "shoot to kill" approach may not have been the best choice given the the earlier peaceful stop. I get all the rest of it just fine, and again, I am not defending this sort of behavior at all. -
Kingston Cop killers allowed to post the pictures?
Jonnin replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
background and all the rest aside... In the linked page one of them says: "We are trying to report federal crimes, and we feel like our plea has fallen on deaf ears," he said. "We're praying President Barack Obama will turn toward East Tennessee. I'm preparing a package for him right now." Did I miss something or are these guys about to get a visit from the FBI..? That sounds like a threat to barry to me ?? -

If you insist: I am not 100% up on this tangent of the law, but for the road flares; there is no permit that allows one to have explosives, so there is no pretext for being law abiding (as in the case of a pistol, where a permit exists). From there, lets call the road flares as some sort of idiotic "terrorist costume". As an old gamer, I used to go to chattacon. One year, a guy had comic/futuristic costume that involved some things marked radioactive. The bomb squad and everyone else were called because he left it in his car accidentally. As I recall, he was released with a warning that "a costume is no excuse" for inciting a distrubance, and that while they could have charged him with several things they chose not to do so given lack of intent. I suspect if you wore it out in public on purpose to create a disturbance, you would be treated even more harshly than the guy at the convention, who at least had a place to wear his costume and an excuse to be there doing what he was doing. So, to some extent, strapping on your terrorist costume would indeed violate some codes, to the best of my guessing, but I am not a lawyer and cannot say with any certainty what exactly you might end up charged with for this stunt. The same things goes for the broadsword, which also have caused a couple of disturbances at both chattacon and dragoncon. they were particularly frowned upon in atlanta. You can be charged with carrying too big a knife, going armed, or an number of things. I even asked about this point when I took my HCP and was told "its a handgun permit, not a weapons permit, you STILL cannot carry a big knife on it". A nude body suit is legal all the time to my knowledge and people have done this. It will cause people to stop and point and all, and you might get a LEO to visit, but I doubt you would get more than a chuckle and a "move along or get cited for disturbing the peace" if you were being rowdy about it. And so on. Some of these might get you any number of violations depending on the officer, circumstances, and so on. Some of them will just get you your 10 second blub in the local news. People do this stuff, some of it, and on occasion this results in minor brushes with the law. /shrug you are looking for me to disagree but i do not. I agree with everything you said (except the various minor violations your examples may or may not have tripped). None of that was really my main point, which was about the procedure used (the felony takedown) and the circumstances behind it (already checked the permit and weapon, with full cooperation). -

I can accept all that. And, had they not already happened to check him out once, I would even have been ok with the takedown just off the phone calls from the sheeples. As you said opinions vary, but to me, due to this specific incident where they had already talked to him once, I choose to call it unjustified (but not excessive enough to validate a payout/lawsuit over it, more of an internal investigation + rethink of procedure).
