  1. Could be. Crowds of rabble do tend to flee. My thoughts were that behind the rabble were some suicidal terrorists with rockets and guns, though, the type that want to die. If those were the ones leading the effort, I think they would have succeeded or died trying, not run away. A well armed platoon would have stopped that, agreed, I was talking typical guard setups with just a few guys somewhat lacking in hardware --- which may or may not have been the case, we did have some advance warning so ???? Sometimes I think we play to lose intentionally.
  2. I think mild steroids can help both these and other ailments if you learn to use them. I do not recall exactly how to produce them but they exist in nature so it would be a matter of research.
  3. is this an excuse to meet/hang out with cheerleaders ? Sign me up too!
  4. haha .... understandable, since every time some doofus plays with a gun and fires it, they do not want to admit to pulling the trigger.
  5. I thought the trends had gone hammerless, but I have 0 interest in snubbies. Ok, old, new, whatever the thing MAY have had a hammer either way!
  6. all due respect to the marines, but 4 or 5 of them on guard duty armed with rifles would not have stopped these mobs. Killed some 40 or 50 of em, maybe, but these guys had grenades or rockets of some sort, guns and were there to TAKE the place. If you mean a combat troop of marines with real gear, including mounted machine guns and explosives and all, that might have had a chance. Depends on the context.
  7. The older airweights have a hammer, but not likely to see one of those anymore (?). It would still take a dumber than average moron to fire one by accident, but its possible the model had one and cock+bang from fooling with it.
  8. I would *strongly* advise pads for the ladies. Sorry but no one ever died from TSS from a pad to my knowledge. Also tampons are (or were, they still do this?) designed to irritate and increase bleeding, bad in a survial situation. Lot of women dislike pads, so ask your women maybe.... TP is a great idea. Clean, washable rags can get you a long way in place of either one and can also serve a bajillion other purposes. I would go this route + laundry soap. Clean hands and eating stuff is a must, and being somewhat clean all over as well. Most of the reasons people die young in 3rd world come down to unclean habits or lack of safe/clean food/water.
  9. 99.99 % of the products in most stores are inside a wrapper that cannot (or should not) be opened in the store (unless agree to buy it regardless). Would you refuse to buy the new flamin hot cheetoz until you opened the bag and tried one? Want to buy a lawnmower, going to insist they gas it up and put in the oil so you can start it first? Cars are one of the few things we can try before we buy, and are an anomaly, not the norm, really.
  10. There is all the difference in the world between a 380 and a 9mm +P. Energy is not the only thing to consider; momentum is a big deal in handgun rounds. The difference in momentum between a 380 and a 147 +P is huge, while the energy difference is lower due to the squared velocity. That momentum ensures the 9mm will exit an attacker, rather than just stop after hitting a bone or something like a 380. Both energy and momentum are important in a handgun. Rifles tend to reach potent energy levels and make up for the low mass (most rifle rounds weigh less than average handgun rounds...!) with raw energy, but handguns cannot get to that level. If energy alone would do it, you would see on the shelf bullets made of aluminum that weigh like 20 grains or something.
  11. nylon velcro type, if you take the optics off, $20 or so and hold up well enough. With optics, not sure --- you either expose the optics by slitting the side or find something big enough to take it with the optics on (uncommon and more expensive, possibly only custom work will do?). A pop rivet gun, 2 pieces of medium stiff/thick leather and you can make something that will work well and be rugged, if not exactly a work of art.
  12. I would not try to fix my ammo to the weather in this state. A cold day here is still warm enough that a thin jacket is sufficient more often than not. A big heavy coat is excessive on all but the worst days here. As I understand it, any cloth can get inside a JHP and cause it to fail to expand. Thick or thin. You might look into some of the ammo brands that have the hollow point filled with plastic tips or plugs. Those work about the same no matter what they hit. You could also alternate. That was my choice, year round, to alternate a FMJ and JHP in the mags. Dunnno what is sold in 45 but a soft lead flat nosed round can be brutal as well.
  13. I am sorry for your loss.
  14. Heh there is one clerk at sportsmans that freaks on a dry fire like it you just broke the gun. But the snap caps he wants to put in are worn out, so no difference from a dry fire. I do not care for the policy but at least they still carry guns and often have good prices. Decent ammo prices as well at times. The one here, excellent service, even if the guys are not super gun experts they try to help and put in more effort than a lot of places. They are a little odd about bringing your own gun in too; some guy has to walk to the front of the store, walk it back for you, and walk it back out. You can carry your own loaded one but suddenly the unloaded and checked one puts them at defcon 5. Between thugs that would load up in the store and blast you to just general unsafe idjits, I would have some pretty hefty policies in place too. Just too many people that really need to learn the rules before they touch.
  15. congratulations! Target is a lot better than mine was. It was HOT when I took mine and I just blasted fast as I could to get out of the sun. It is very difficult to set off ammo, and by design dropping it will not. Shaky hands is part of being old sometimes, long as he kept the gun safely pointed downrange, do not worry about it. The same fate awaits many of us.
  16. new? There are a couple of offbrands in the $350 range. Cimarron for example, but I have never even seen one up close. Heritage arms has one. Taurus has a couple. Of those I have shot a couple of taurus and own 3 of their small caliber revolvers. One of those was messed up out of the box, service was slow but excellent.
  17. assuming your dislike of 45 long was the price, 45 acp is a bit more than 9mm, guessing about $5 more per box. Not the most expensive thing to buy, but worth noting if that is an issue. only other thing I would say is take your time to pick one, there are many, many 1911s out there.
  18. try to find a way to use this against him in the custody hearing.
  19. it looks good, just splits the gun into 2 categories: devalued for the milsurp hardcore guys and possibly increased value for someone who does not know much but likes the way it looks. There are far worse looking cleanup jobs, so don't mistake my value guess as a frown at the work done. Its just the strange nature of the collector guy's value, the current going value for untouched, and so on. for what its worth it took 25 years for some of the mausers to go from peanuts to pricy. It will be a long, long time before these things go up in value enough that a polish job did serious harm to the investment. I doubt they break $500 over the next 10 years. I was just kidding about the bayo, I knew what you meant. Testing it on the ceiling was above and beyond the required testing.
  20. crossbow ....
  21. it looks like the stock was sanded and redone? If not, my bad.
  22. not matching and bubba polished... $150 at a guess to a knowing person. $300 to an idiot that sees the shiny can happen (no offense but the value decreases as it is made prettier/modified, in general). I am a little concerned that you know the bayonet functions.... /worry
  23. I mean the whole thing.
  24. ^^^^ I broke my first bench. Sturdy is good.
  25. I meant personally, as in you pick it up, look, then look again, then look a third time, ... not someone else looking and then you looking.
