Which issues are most important to you?
Jonnin replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Economy (unemployment, deficit, no expensive stupid wars, profit (spend less than take in), etc) Freedom (guns, personal life, etc) stable (hard to explain.... but not a crusader for some policy like obamacare or rescue/obliteration of some country) which is never met by any candidate for any party of course. -
Switching from Auto-Index to single-turret for .223?
Jonnin replied to a topic in Ammunition and Reloading
it is probably the plastic guide for the rod, which wears out after a while. I did not care for the hand primer, the press works just fine for me. Otherwise that list above is dead on, you could still use the turret press if you prefer. Look at the LEE site for refurbished goods, sometimes you can score a press for 1/2 price and they make sure the refurbs are as good as new. It is very hit or miss on what they have though. -
right, its just what you can buy with it. And you cannot look at just gold or silver --- it would be across the board. Demand for silver/gold is up and so is the price, but if you look at all products, what then? You also have to take into account various products being up for other reasons, gas/oil/anything made of or corn/meat/anything tied to corn etc.
-
not really. If everyone in the country is PO'ed that their stocks have lost 80% value over the past 10 years, everyone sells their stocks and buys gold. This generates much demand, which increases prices. The people that bought that gold are successful: the price went up and so the next wave decides to buy gold too. It spirals up and up and up as people get on the bandwagon, until it becomes high enough that people decided that buying it is going to be a loss when it goes back down. That only accounts for some of it, of course. You also have fears and concerns that the dollar will go down even more --- generating a demand for gold and silver again. The only real way you can value our money is relative to what it can buy. In 1960, the min wage was what, a buck an hour? You earned a LOT less but each dollar could buy MORE stuff. So your $150 a week went a long, long way while today that is what you give your kid for a weekend trip -- heck it takes a good chunk of that just for a tank of gas and 3 not too expensive meals out. There is more money in the system as more is printed, people make more, things cost more.... inflation happens.

RIP I got to know one of the guys who learned to fly in the same group with him, though they were only acquaintances. Passed on as well a couple of years back.

Maybe. Or they should have had safety slugs loaded for city work. Lots of could have/ should have / blah blah to think about. From what little we know, I probably would have shot too and the ricochets go where they will --- 1/2 a second to shoot or be shot, no time for anything else. The video shows a lot, guy whips out a gun and points at the LEOs, not a lot of time to play with a taser or change weapons.

to be fair, today's report is saying no direct hits, its all ricochets & frags that hit the 9.

Lance Armstrong Banned for Life and Stripped of Titles
Jonnin replied to analog_kidd's topic in General Chat
what I got out of all the noise was this: they cannot even give his titles to the runner's up because EVERY SINGLE RUNNER UP has also been caught doping at least once. Wow. -
mine is in the back row of the safe, and it would take come fancy talk to get me to pull it out, but it looks like this: http://www.pooshka.c....php?aid=862974 mine is very similar, it has the patch box in the stock, a set trigger to give you a hair trigger accurate shot, and the hex barrel, etc. There are a couple of variations but this is the general item, I think my trigger guard is not quite that fancy.
-
Lol. You can't win with this crowd. In one thread hauling my plr-16 around is looney, and in another, my pocket pistol has injured my manhood. Still, a smaller gun can be a perfectly acceptable way to deal with concealment difficulties. Ill put my cz rami up against any fullsized all day long and about the only difference would be a couple of rounds of ammo.
-
hard to hit the bad guy when you have to use your entire body weight to pull on a NYC approved trigger system I guess.

did you guys see this one? http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-shootings-chicago-violence-august-23-august-24-violence-gunfire-20120823,0,49779.story

LL needs to get a gun. Glad he busted the guy and it all ended well, but that could just as easily have been a headline "LL killed by burglar"
-
this was in the onion, right? There are no guns in NYC and everyone just has flowers and candy and happy thoughts.

My mauser is a military gun by any standard that your SK is a military gun. And only a fool would say the mauser is not one of the best deer rifles ever made, if a bit heavy --- the good Lord knows that fools butchered enough of them into "deer rifles" (somehow cutting up the barrel and the stock = improved). There are only 2 concerns when you are hunting after you have made sure to follow any extra requirements put in place by the law: 1) can the round kill the animal in one clean hit and 2) can the firearm deliver the round accurately enough to kill the animal in one clean hit.
-
Absolutely. The LEO that walked by a guy with such things without taking a min is not doing his job, and if a LEO ever sees my AR pistol, I expect him to ask about it (I do not OC It but I do have it in the car sometimes, if I am required to go to go downtown for example). As for seeing someone with it strapped on their back....?? I am 10 times more concerned about the guy with something that I cannot see, but like you, I will be watching.

There is no ATF stamp on the ones that were sold as pistols. SBR is not legal on the HCP, only handguns. So it comes down to checking the permit and that is an end to it, whether its a AR pistol or a single six. If someone has an actual SBR or AR or even a double barreled shotgun, that is totally different: a few more questions need to be asked as those are not allowed on HCP and if loaded, there is a problem. If not loaded and in town or something, still worth asking what the intent is. As I said, I am ok with the officer asking appropriate questions --- for any pistol of any type, that is to see the HCP, then a nod, a smile, and that is the end of it. For anything not a pistol, a few more questions and possibly checking for it being loaded etc may be in order. I expect the LEO to know which are pistols and which are SBR as part of his job. This LEO, by the way, did very well given that there was an intent by these guys to get a rise out of him. I have no issue with anything he did. My issue is with people saying that you should not carry X weapon because of how it looks. OC in general stirs up the sheep and anti-gun folks. The type of gun is unimportant; from here there are 2 topics (is it ok to OC and stir people up or not) vs (is it ok to carry a large handgun, or should we make a new law to ban anything that won't fit in an IDPA box?).

Welcome! A requirement is against my political views for many reasons. First, not everyone can afford a weapon, and I am not sure I want my tax dollars spent buying glocks for 18 year old, um, "urban" folks who cannot afford them. I am also against the invasion of freedom that any mandate for anything (insurance, ID/papers, whatever) causes. And, finally, not everyone should own a deadly weapon; some people do not have the responsibility to follow safe handling (a lot of gun people mess this up, let alone non or anti gun folks!) while other people like to drink, dope, or just have the sort of personality that leads to fighting. A hothead with a gun and a bottle of jack = bad plan. I understand the pros but actually doing something like that would cause more harm than good. I would not mind a (swiss??) style setup where every home has a rifle for national defense. A free AR? Sign me up.

4 inches is probably a fair target. But if the gun is aimed at a point in space and makes a 4 inch group, then the shooter has to be expert with the weapon to hit the vitals... miss by 1/2 an inch and your shot has a 25% or so chance to be outside the 4 inch zone. Somehow I doubt the SK is that bad though --- surely it can do sub 2 moa with a scope and good ammo, meaning the issue here is the shooter or setup in question....?
-
like it or not, an "AR" pistol is a pistol and is legal on HCP. You have as much right to carry that without being hassled as you do a 6 shooter. The LEOs have every right to ask to see your permit and ask a question or two, but it should be the exact same as OC of something else. This is not canada where we ban firearms due to the way they look. Anyone who chooses to exercise their right is going to be hassled, though, because of the way the gun looks --- that is not right.

the cz trigger is not that complicated, I have pulled 2 or 3 of them apart to do the single action mod. I have not tried to remove the decocking lever, but I am sure you could do something that would work. The czs are internally complex and if you take it apart, take pictures and notes so you can get it back together. Once the pins come out of the frame, it can quickly become a box o parts. The trigger proper is isolated enough that you can work on it without a full takedown, but I think the decocking lever is going to require additional pins removed. Basically, its probably doable but be prepared to spend a whole weekend swearing at it.

I would have a minor concern about it feeding soft point ammo properly, if you had to take a second shot? I know most of my semi-auto rifles hate any sort of soft point but I do not have an sk or ak --- try a few in your gun. That may not matter too much, should only take one shot, but be aware of it.

chemotheropy and Radiation are worse than cancer in my Opinion
Jonnin replied to plank white's topic in General Chat
Chemo is rough --- its a heavy handed attempt to kill the cancer faster than it kills the patient. Radiation is not much better. Untreated agressive cancer can kill someone in a few months. less agressive cancers can be ignored for decades. There is no answer to how long someone might live untreated until the cancer "goes agressive" --- but once it does, its usually over. If they find it before it gets a foothold and kill it (with chemo, radiation, or a knife) people have excellent odds of survival. Once it hits the lymph nodes or GI tract, odds are not so good. Once the patient gives up, things tend to go badly. Mental state and attitude have been shown to work wonders..... try to encourage her. I am sorry to hear about her condition and hope things improve. -
Do you ever see other people carrying?
Jonnin replied to gregintenn's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I look as well, but if you discard the folks at gun shows and gun stores, what is left are: 1) A small handful of MEN who have the gun stuffed in their pants in the back, exposed when they bend over 2) A small handful of MEN who are fat and their belly against the gun in the front makes an obvious print 3) everyone else who happened to turn the wrong way to expose it or whatever in various positions. I have yet to see a woman carry but I did spot 1 carry purse (these all seem to follow 2 patters, and both patterns have "secret" compartments in the center while all the woman-junk is stored on the sides, they are like 2 regular purses sewn together). There is no way to tell if the purse is "armed" though. -
You can try hard cast in the original poly barrels. I have done this with no problems, but you want to be sure you do not get buildup. That would probably best be done buy either buying hard lead stock to cast your own or just buying hard bullets already made up. It can save you a lot over time compared to FMJ rounds, if you can find some that work without leading with your load data and powder choices. I have shot a couple thousand hard cast thru my makarov with no issues and several hundred thru a glock 9mm with no issues.
