talk to your eye DR and get a custom set of glasses made up just for shooting? This is not always the right answer, depending on your eyesight, but its AN answer for some shooters. I think the sport rules out both red dots and lasers, unfortunately, but for your carry gun, a laser might be a worthwhile investment. For non action shooting (your own plinking etc) you might consider a red dot. Both are excellent for people with eye problems.

quick, does that person there (pick anyone) have a gun? Took too long to decide, you are dead. If confronting a bad guy (which is in itself another whole can of worms.... ask mr zimmerman about that) you MUST assume the person is armed and capable of a fast draw and fire on par with experts ... that is able to draw and fire at you in a blink. The only logical counter to this scenario is to draw first. Due to the unknown status of the enemy (potentially a badass with a hidden weapon and leetzor skills) you are in fact in danger and in fear for your life. Prove me wrong

He sounds old, and there was a lot of umm's in a couple of places. All in all I liked it but putting words in obama's mouth, while humorous, opens him up to a lot of criticism (already being posted). He hit the nail on the head with the president being a job hired by the people, and if the job is done poorly replace the worker, but I fear that may have gotten lost in the funny stuff.

AlGore calls for end of Electoral College
Jonnin replied to MattCary's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I actually agree with AL. The EC could use, at the very least, a revamp. I am not in favor of popular vote, at all. However, I am not terribly happy with the current system either where the 2 or 3 states with a billionty people control a good chunk of the election due to 100% of their vote (which is split like 75/25 democrat) going to the winner. The EC used to be a happy medium between popular vote and regional, but it has become more and more weighted toward pure population and that needs to be looked at. I do not have an answer though, all I can think of is a square root type curve for population vs EC votes, so that exponentially higher population only gives a few more EC votes. No one would even understand that, let alone implement it, though. -
It does not matter all that much. I say leave them long so if you damage it up front you can cut a little off and it still works. But it really does not make any difference long as it is not too short.

Man Who Carried AK-47 Pistol In Park Loses Appeal
Jonnin replied to MikePapa1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
that is the point indeed. They need to remove the AFT and its rules to determine what is and is not what type of gun, since really, its just how it looks. Maybe the media should decide, they seem to be able to tell full auto and assault weapons at a glance. -

I do not blame them, nor do I advocate LE's activities. But there are a lot of things that could have been handled better --- no blame, no real wrong-doing, but needs work. -

Yea. Eventually he is going to cross a line. The analogy holds. If the LEO does not even know the law he is using to make an arrest, that is bad. "Hold on there, that looks like IMHO it should be illegal" is not a good way to approach making arrests. Yes, L.E. was abrasive and made the situation worse, as he always does, but that does not excuse drawing a gun on a permit holder who has a pistol and it does not excuse not knowing what a pistol is. -

Not really addressed.... the officers not knowing what the gun is to me is about like this: officer: you were speeding me : oh, how fast was I going? officer: 47 me: and the speed limit is? officer: I am not sure but it sure was fast me: you are not sure?! officer: yea let me call someone to find out, its going to take about an hour is that ok? -
not 100% sure but mine all smoke a bit too. A bit is a far cry from a civil war gun.... are you being funny? I suspect its burnt lube on mine (?).

Man Who Carried AK-47 Pistol In Park Loses Appeal
Jonnin replied to MikePapa1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
actually I do have a problem with the LEO arresting him at gunpoint. That is over the top an given they had already questioned him once without a violent reaction and that he had been there peacably for some time without harming anyone or threatening anyone, it was a poor move by the LEO. Also, it is sad that the officers cannot tell a handgun from a rifle. Perhaps the laws are too convoluted and confusing? Worse, they were unable to tell a pistol from a machine gun (assault rifle). That speaks of volumes of ignorance. I approve of them stopping him to verify the permit and legality, but it should have been a 5 min delay: got a permit? Ok, let me see that, its a pistol? Ok, have a nice day. -

What was L. E. suspicious of? I am guessing he thought the court would use bad english in its conclusion? -
well it could still have been polished down a bit by the last user. But I agree, brass on steel is not going to do much to the steel for a long, long time.
-
That is what I did too, reformed 30-06. Thankfully each case lasts a long, long time or that would get very tedious in a hurry; I think I was able to make about 5 cases a day, each one took me a good 30 min from 30-06. It turns out you can force 308 brass to work without any extra effort (just get a bigger expander in your die or use the 765 die set), but I did not know that at the time (doh!). I am glad I did it. I learned a ton making those cases, and next time, I will buy some privi and re-use their brass!

if you can pull it straight back with brute force, it is too weak a bow for you if you are looking for the stoutest draw you can handle. You can get more into it with the lift up, hold the string arm still, and extend the arm holding the bow to draw it. That is the best method I know of for a tough to draw bow that is on the limits of what you can handle. Brute force or other methods are not "wrong" if you can do it, and I imagine that technique could be handy in a tree stand or whatever.
-
your bow, unstrung, should be right about the same height as YOU in a recurve, roughly. strung, that will make it significantly shorter than you and fairly manageable. However, if you are hunting, you may want it a size or 2 smaller to make it even easier to handle in the woods. Bows are a funny push-pull. You have to hold it away from you with one arm (push) and pull it toward you to draw (pull). (Proper draw is described above, but once drawn, you still are pushing and pulling for a short time, not saying to draw it straight back by brute force). It is not easy to determine what bow weight you can handle based off any normal weight lifting and you really need to just try a few or get some help. Also, how you hold it and how you draw it matter a lot in how strong a bow you can manage, if you hold it wrong the "right bow for you" may seem impossible!

Nothing says get out of my house like.... a double barreled bmg?

after who knows how much time and money spent, researchers have made a breakthru! I ran across this gem: "Ongoing research is shedding new light on the importance of math to children's success. Math skill at kindergarten entry is an even stronger predictor of later school achievement than reading skills or the ability to pay attention, according to a 2007 study in the journal Developmental Psychology."
-
apart from filing it down, some folks put the wrong one in on purpose to create "close enough" ammo for obsolete calibers. I *could* poke a 303 expander in my 308 dies and make "7.65" ammo sorta -- but I prefer to do it right.
-
Nothing too bad. You might split a cheap case, but the 40 is higher pressure and the gun can certainly handle the explosion of a 9mm. It should fail to cycle. Its hard on the gun to do it a lot, gas erosion of the barrel. 9 and 40 can share the same mags in some guns that have 2 barrels, if I am not mistaken ?

WARNER BROS. REMOVING CONFEDERATE FLAG FROM ‘DUKES OF HAZZARD’ CAR
Jonnin replied to plank white's topic in General Chat
The movie is not the dukes, its a couple of guys and a random babe who are nothing like the original actors. I do not care what they do --- it was ruined before it got started, kinda like those guys trying to be the 3 stooges. Hollywood needs to make something NEW instead of ruining old stuff. I mean really, a remake of total recall?? Batman # 184? Next up, dirty harry played by elijah wood (frodo..)????? (nothing against the guy, but some things don't fit). -
RK show at Camp Jordan Arena in Chattanooga Sept. 1st and 2nd
Jonnin replied to reed1285's topic in Events and Gatherings
hard to say, but at least a 50-50 chance. I have seen a variety of such items sometimes, and other times, nothing. It just depends on who bought a table and what they bring to the show.... usually a pretty good variety and a lot of tables. -
Question about .40 cal for practice/plinking/class
Jonnin replied to Sky King's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
you might luck into some locally reloaded cheap ammo at the show, less these days but sometimes you spot a vendor with some reloads for cheap. Look for a booth selling powder and bullets and they may also have a few boxes of their own brand. If you are going to be doing this sort of thing a lot, you might look into makeing your own .... 1/2 the price adds up when you start talking 500 rounds a pop.
