Hello my name is Michael. I have been reading this forum for a little while and wanted to say hello and introduce myself. Growing up in the south I have been shooting my whole life, but not on a regular bases. A few months ago I decided to get my carry permit (still waiting for it to show up in the mail) and I have been going to the range @ Guns and Leather about once a week to get my skill level where it should be, and I have really gotten into it. I am looking for an outdoor range (or a legal place to shoot) does anyone have any favorite spots .

Welcome. To answer your question about outdoor ranges, there is the Cheatham country WMA, and the Stone's River Hunter education. Both cost 5.50 for 2 hours and have both pistol and rifle. Stones is a much nicer facility, but you cant shoot at silhouettes and some of their safety officers are a little too gung ho at times. They have adjustable positions for your targets at both the rifle and pistol ranges.

Cheatham is the wild west. You pay at a gas station a half mile from the range. There are no safety officers, and not really any benches to speak of to set your gear on. The pistol range has fixed backboards that you cannot move forward.

I would say go to Stone's, and save Cheatham if you feel the need to shoot up an old computer or fax machine as long as you clean up the remains. I speak from experience on that one. The other nice thing about Stone's is there always seems to be someone from TGO that you will run into there.

Hey Michael: I'm in the same boat have been reading for awhile and just join. I wish I could find a place to fire off a few round too. All the rock quarries I used to shoot at are being used again. The, at the end of the road spots, have become neighborhoods. There's cameras on the side of country roads. what'sa unemployed, construction working, gun loving Plinker to do?
