if my math is right, 65 years ago, right about now there were American soldiers beginning the day of days.

That alone makes today great.

The greatest generation that will ever live. One of my patients is a paraplegic who sustained the causitive wound on that very beach.

His name is Jerry. He's from the Bronx, and I'm honored to call him my friend.

Good remider, Mike.

Don't want to derail the topic but OP started it! Today the co-pilot of the B-29 that bombed Nagasaki died. He was 88.

The Greatest Generation is rapidly dying off. I would love to spend the afternoon with a WWII combat vet! Just to shake his hand.

You said it! Too bad we don't have more that could go on "tour" and speak to today's youth.

Makes me miss my Grandpa. :(

Mine will be 88 in November. He was a half-track driver in the 10th Mountain Division. Still is the toughest man I have ever known. "Mule" as he is called by his friends.

He's my hero.

He's my hero.

My Granddad strung barbed wire on the Hindenburg Line with a mule team.

He taught me to shoot and fish and drive.

My Dad was in third wave on Omaha Beach. He lived to not talk about it.

But cancer got him 10 years ago.

Just finished watching Saving Private Ryan on TCM again.

So, much on my mind re all that.

You're a lucky guy to still have him around Bronker! I had mine up until he was 85. We buried him next to Grandma in February. He was an artillery gunner in Italy. Got a bronze star in the Po Valley battle.

My grandfather was also in Italy (Salerno), and Germany.

I'm so fortunate, Pun, that I have BOTH of my grandfathers. My other is 83 and lives in Maryland. Career Navy man.
